“A little outdated but clean... :)”
Reviewed July 14, 2008

Just coming out of a place I stayed at which had Bed bugs, I was very cautious when having to stay in a hotel. This place was clean and NO bugs, which to me is the main thing that is of most importance!! The staff are very friendly. Snacks were good, but cookies did run out by the time we'd checked in (6pm).The rooms were older/probably decorated in early 80's, but again at least clean. THe breakfast was okay, and free( we preferred the cereal over the waffles, which we found weren't tasty...). The overall experience was that we were pleased. Price was good for this area of New York and we didn't come home with anything extra (bugs...)

Found the motel by Room Saver catalogue available at visitors center. Courteous service. Excellent breakfast.. Well worth to be 10 minutes outside of Corning. Recommend it highly.

Stayed for one night. Thought the price a bit high for what was provided, but I am aware most hotels in that part of NY are priced a little high.

Positives-the room was decent size, 2 queen beds, friendly check in staff, lots of parking

Negatives-batroom door would not close properly. Toilet seat must have been original from the 60's with blistering paint, etc. How much would it cost to replace that???

Other-free popcorn in the lobby , but the problem is the smell of the popcorn permeates the area, and not really what one wants in a hotel room area.

PS-hard to find the hotel, but not their fault. The interchange near there is under construction and the state in their infinite wisdom has taken down the signs normally pointing to restaurants, hotels and the like, plus there are a number of detours in the area. Basically a traffic mess.

We booked this location based on previous reviews. We are aware of the broad range of ratings applied to hotels/motels and the varied opinions that contribute to these ratings. As seasoned travellers, we were quite surprised by the condition of this hotel. It made us ask ourselves: did we read the reviews for some other hotel? Nope! We double checked and sure enough we read the right reviews. Yikes!!!!

We arrived about 8:30 pm. The lobby gave us the " oh my, do we have the wrong place?" feeling. Stale smoke and dimly lit surroundings are the first things you will notice. As in previous reviews, we too found the staff friendly. Check-in was quick and went off without a hitch. We were provided a room on the first floor. This is where the true colors of this place shine. The carpets have seen more than their fair share of life. They are beyond badly soiled. The room we were provided with matched with equal intensity the stale smoke smell found in the lobby and hallway. In fact, when we opened the room door, we released a rush of smoke stench that overtook our senses.

To the credit of the staff, we were provided with another room on the second floor that was much "cleaner" smelling than the first floor room. (Note to reader: If you have any allergy to smoke, move along to another hotel. This is not the place for you.) The second floor hallway was marginally better for smoke smell as was the "non-smoking" room we provided with. The rooms were slightly smaller than average to most places of this quality we stayed in.

Our feelings about the breakfast have been stated by previous reviewers. The eggs and sausage.........no thanks. Bagels, waffles, cereal make the grade of average when compared to other establishments. There was lots of parking, so that wasn't a problem.

Our overall impression was that this Econo Lodge is poorly cared for. The outside looks fine, nothing fancy here. However the inside needs a serious cleaning, refurbishment and modernization. We truly felt we overpaid for what the establishment was worth. We paid the exact same price as we did for a much better hotel in Newark NJ the previous 3 nights.

Rating 1.5 stars out of 5.

Friendly staff; coffee, tea, hot chocolate + cookies and popcorn in the lobby; large spotless room with multi-channel TV; breakfast had a hot selection each day with multiple cold choices too. The only drawback to staying at this location is the lack of dining choices in the immediate area.

My family have stayed at few Econo Lodges over the years ... this is one of the better ones.T he hotel appears modern and clean. The lobby is simple , clean and welcoming. The staff we encountered was very plesant and made us feel welcome. The room was clean and large for a budget motel / hotel. The bed linens looked very good. The towels while plentiful could have used an update. The shower bath area is nice, clean and modern. This is a basic place but the cleaness level should be acceptable to most people in this price range. Parking lot is very large. There is a large shopping center directly across a small street. There is a Walmart, a friendly's, a Apples bee's all in walking distance. The Breakfast is nice and there are quite a few choices BUT get there early for best selection. This hotel/morel would be a good choice if your looking for a lower rate BUT still demand a good, clean, safe place to stay.

After reading the reviews of the hotel, I will say I am quite disappointed with the place. The hotel itself is fine, and is quite nice for an Econo Lodge. The rooms are somewhat large, clean, and with a fridge and microwave. The beds are a little too firm for me but fine enough. What I am disappointed with are the extras that were advertised with the hotel. The tuesday managers reception was a complete lie. I asked the friendly front desk people about it and they had no idea that the hotel even had such a thing. It wasn't their fault and I dont blame them for not being aware of this. As for the 'hot' breakfast. Make ur own waffles, cereal, disgusting sausage patties, toast and english muffins. So much for the eggs, biscuits and gravy, and pancakes that was listed on the other reviews as well as the website. I guess I expected too much from an Econo Lodge.
