“our trip to Bistro 197”
Reviewed April 30, 2012

we went to the Bistro on a Thursday nite @ 7pm there was one other party of two seated when we arrived. Even though this is a new place our booth seat was ripped and had stuffing coming out- that kind of surprised us.
They brought us some warm bread and two lovely toppings one was basil butter and one was a kalamata olive tapenade. They were both delish!
we were two and started looking over the menu - i was torn because some of the combinations weren't appealing to me & i have a shellfish allergy - but i figured i would try the Chicken Ala Milanaise, it came with a mixed green salad with a lemon vinagerette with shaved parm on top.
it was ok - i didnt like the breading or that kind of free range chicken wasn't my favorite. (not sure which)
My husband had the tourenados of beef that came with a heavenly reduction and wrapped in bacon - then the garlic mashed and beautiful green beans. (very, very good!)
we did not get dessert as we had to be somewhere. But we asked if on another trip we could try different sides with some of the mains and we were told that would be fine to mix and match. So even though this was not my favorite meal we will go back because husbands was sooo good. We did not drink at this meal- but they had a great selection of beers and wines.
our bill for two was $43 before tip.

“Excellent food...would be top rated anywhere in the Country”
Reviewed April 14, 2012

We have been multiple times for both lunch and dinner and EVERY time has been excellent. Often you will find a good restaurant and when you go back, it is a let down. Not here. We travel and eat out a lot, and Bistro 197 is excellent in all aspects. The food is extremely good from appetizers to entree to desert. I always find myself waiting for my food to cool down here as it is freshly prepared and right to your table. That NEVER happens even at the best restaurants. Well worth a trip if you are local or are in town visiting!!! Menu is always changing with new culinary adventures being added and wonderful specials each night. Also has a wonderful (and underpriced, shhhhhh!!!) wine list!! Enjoy!!

“Great Food - hidden treasure”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

My wife and I along with 3 other couples went to dinner here on a freinds reccommendation. We drove up to Oswego from the Syracuse suburbs and it was a trip well worth it. We all loved the food, delicious, rich, nice presentation and great selection. I sent some visitors from Atlanta here for a dinner and they remarked that the quality of the food rivaled anything that they had in Atlanta. Their only constructive feedback would be to improve the service a bit. They are looking forward to stopping in on their next visit.
