“Decent Choice”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2007

For the area this is a very decent choice. Don't expect any bells or whistles just a clean place to sleep. Wireless service worked fine for me and staff was friendly. Breakfast was nothing great but at leeast it was free for me. As there are no chain hotels in Cooperstown (walking distance to the Hall of Fame) it really does not matter where you stay and this hotel is about 20 minutes away. Outdoor pool looked "ok" from my window and it appeared there were some fields for the kids to play on. On the plus side - lots of channels on the TV.

My father-in-law picked this hotel mainly due to price. It is about a 25 minute ride to Cooperstown. The front desk was not at all helpful when we checked in - there is no elevator in the building!
My in-laws were in there late 80's so i wish we had figured that out first. Room was clean but dining room was not good. I wish that we had stayed right in Cooperstown it would have been much more convenient. The first night none of us could figure out how to close the drapes - we finally figured it out the second night but being tired after a long ride it was confusing. We had no trouble with the wireless it was fine and helped us to find restaurants in the area. Any questions, i would be happy to answer them.

I am a business traveler and the wireless internet access is atrocious (and there is no network port access). beware, if you need internet do not bother with this place. Otherwise it is a few minutes from town and in a quiet location. The Hampton Inn down the road is a much better choice for the business traveler.

This hotel is located some distance from town, along a road with strip malls, trailer parks, and fast food. It's your basic Holiday Inn, old style. Room decor was dated, with stains and a desk chair that was broken. Staff was mostly pleasant, although the desk staff was variable. The breakfast buffet was really substandard, and I chose not to eat there for other meals. I visited a colleague at the Clarion Hotel, and wound up wishing I'd stayed there. It's right downtown, with one side opening directly into a plaza that leads to Main Street, a nicely restored area.

We loved this hotel. We have stayed at some other Holiday Inns and this was probably the nicest . When we arrived we were told a crib was not in our room for our 11 month old daughter (even though I had requested one when I made the reservation). Not only did a crib arrive 15 minutes after we entered our room but we got a follow-up call from the front desk. They accomadated us with a ground floor room. The grounds were nice with a pool, volleyball net (with sand), soccer nets, basketball hoop, swings and a slide for small kids. Too bad we only stayed one night and the next morning it pourred so we couldn't use the outdoor facilities. There was a game room with videogames. It is a nice family hotel. We highly recommend it.

One of the nicer places to stay in the area, staff was exceptional under tough conditions. Stayed during the worst flooding in years, but hotel stayed dry. Staff did everything possible to keep us informed and comfortable. Thanks Holiday Inn Oneonta. Highly recommended.

When we first booked this hotel, I was a little wary. I used my Priority Club points earned thru stays at numerous Holiday Inns across the country. I find most of small-town HIs to be two things - dumpy and lumpy. You know the scenario - faded, dirty carpeting; sullen, uninterested or bossy staff and lumpy, uncomfortable beds, pillows and furniture. This HI was a pleasant surprise. The decor was tasteful and modern. The facilities were spotless and we saw housekeeping staff almost constantly dusting, polishing and spot-cleaning carpets. The desk staff was above reproach! I had a number of issues with Priority Club, as usual. When I contacted the hotel directly, they immediately took care of everything. During our stay, they were extremely courteous, friendly and accommodating.

The same goes for the restaurant staff. Food was good - definitely try the spinach salad! If you're watching your cholesterol, beware the breakfast meals. Good taste, but lots of grease. My husband had the cinnamon french toast and it was very good, also. Desserts are way overpriced ($6 for a sliver of chocolate cake), and I imagine the drinks are expensive. But that's usually the tradeoff for the convenience of "eating in". Room was very clean, and didn't smell at all like smoke even though it was a smoking room. The king-sized bed and pillows were dangerously comfy and comforting. The hot water was not as hot as I like it, and the bathroom could use an exhaust fan. But it also was sparkling clean. I spoke to the General Manager and Guest Services Manager. Seems they are both recent additions to the management staff and are working very hard to bring this Holiday Inn up to par. The Guest Mgr comes directly from Marriott, so she knows first class and how to get there. All in all, I recommend this hotel.
