“Amazing Food, Amazing Price”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

I stumbled across a Latin / Puerto Rican restaurant in the most interesting of places in the outskirts of Syracuse by Turning Stone Casino. I have often lamented the fact that no one has ever been able to cobble together an upscale Puerto Rican dining experience here in Rochester and quite frankly any other city I have been to in the US (other than PR itself).

But chef and owner Ruben Lopez has nailed it. It is fine dining at its best!

"Born in Valencia, Spain and raised in Puerto Rico, Ruben offers his interpretation of traditional Spanish tapas with an American twist."

This place is unbelievable and I am willing to take the 1.5 hour long drive monthly to experience it. We had the warm goat cheese dip, the mofongo, the pernil, beef with chimmichurri sauce, the flan and the tres leches cake. It was ALL very very good. I want to go back SOON to try the rest of the menu.

The bottle of wine (Termpranillo) was a mere $21 as an added bonus.

The location is perfect for those staying at the Casino for those that are tired of the terrible food and high prices you get there.

CONS: I really wish this place was closer to Rochester. I have told Ruben that on both occasions I got to meet him. Other than that, I can think of anything wrong with this place.

“New menu is a wonderful experience, nice touch Rueben”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Been to Zabroso a few times and had to try their new menu.

Decided to try the "SMALL" Plates (Tapas) items vs. main course/specials.

Of course had the Papas Bravas - best potatoes on earth
Tried the Spinach with Pine Nuts, Asparagus wrap with ham & mustard(great touch), and Blacken chicken all fantastic.
One bad thing :) not enough bread came with the Mussel's and cream dish, had to really drink up the sauce, it was that good with bacon.

Enough food for two that we had to suffer and bring home leftovers for the next night. I would recommend you experiment and enjoy a great meal(s). With drinks less then $60.00 for two.

“Fabulous experience”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

We had dinner there last night w/friends. It was very quiet but we were there early (had to be home to watch the Final Four!). We started with the spring salad ordered 2 & the kitchen split them onto 4 plates very nice! Salad was fresh greens w/oven roasted tomatoes & bacon and all around yummy. The Fresh Goat Cheese & tomato dip was absolutely excellent we also had the meat & cheese sampler again a winner. We then tried: Pernil Conitado again a winner very tasty the sauce was not too sweet as many are in that application! Also good were the Beef Empanadas, the Mussels in cream YUMMY although they missed giving us the roll, it really wasn't necessary. The Seafood & Chorizo Paella looked good also. We sampled 3 Chef Sweets: Flan, Flowerless Chocolate Cake & Neapolitan Cheesecake all made in house all 3 fabulous! We will visit again.

Very happy to hear you all enjoyed your meal at Zabroso. As we recall, someone in your party had the mussels for "dessert"! We look forward to your next visit.

“Seville in Oneida, NY”

Tired of the same-old, same-old Utica area cuisine? Head out to Zabroso for a change......Spanish cuisine!!
Located just a few miles past the Turningstone Casino, Zabroso is situated in the old Charlotte;s Steakhouse locale. (The house is reminiscent of the old Clinton House in Clinton, NY.)
The waitstaff is friendly and helpful.
There are a variety of Spanish wines available. The liquors on the rocks were poured to fill the glasses!
The menu is divided into TAPAS......an assortment of interesting cheeses, cured meats, fritters, flatbreads and appetizers. Our group of 4 skipped the cheese and meat, but shared spinach with raisins and pine nuts, sauteed wild mushrooms, and an amazing dish of roasted baby arichokes!
For our main courses two of has had roasted cod, and the others chose the scallops. These dishes were scrumptious, really! Other more typically Spanish choices included a variety of paellas, and Puerto Rican Mofongos. Steak, chicken, lamb, and mahi mahi were also available.
The desserts were eclectic and delightful.
Portions were large, prices moderate for this area, about $30/pp with a drink.
Stop reading this and call for a reservation now! You'll love this place! HIghly recommended!!

“Zabrosa is perfect!”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

Last nights dinner at Zabrosa was wonderfully memorable. Starting with a small sampler of 3, cheeses and meat, we requested chefs choice- excellent. Wines weren't the ordinary "house glass" variety- definitely a step up. Mussels as an appetizer- excellent. My husband had the hanger steak and and I had the shrimp mofongo- double excellent. ditto for dessert of strawberry napoleon, tres leches, espresso & cappuccino. service was professional, friendly and timely. low level spanish music and the glowing fireplace created a welcoming ambiance. We will definitely return. This restaurant is a great addition to the local restaurant scene, far above the average!
