“If you go, bring a snack...or a bread basket”
Reviewed September 1, 2013 via mobile

We had 7:00 dinner reservations and arrived about fifteen minutes early. A nice table on the porch was cleared for us and we were seated about ten minutes later. Then the problems started. It took about ten minutes for anyone to come by with water and menus and another ten minutes to see if we wanted drinks. At that point one of the owners took our order. At no time were we told that the kitchen was very slow. After about forty more minutes with nothing on the table and no one coming over to us I went to find the owner who took the order and told her that we needed to leave. We have been there over an hour and fifteen minutes. She went to check on our food and then all six dishes that the three of us ordered arrived all at the same time. At that point she told me that they were very short staffed. The portions were small as were typical of a tapas restaurant. The food is actually good but unfortunately I had two dishes at the same time which ruined the experience of enjoying the flavours of the dishes. I asked for our check which I received. I was very disappointed in the entire experience and despite my having made this very clear to the owner, there were no apologies or any efforts at all to improve this terrible experience. The chef needs to find better managers to work for.

“Better than average chef and it stops there.”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

Had a miserable experience in this restaurant last night. Had a reservation for a party of 3 at 7:45 and was greeted with the story of how slammed they were. They had a table saved for us on the overcrowded back porch. We did not get our appetizer order for 30 minutes (salad, cheese platter and bruschetta) and did not get entrees until 9:30. Wait staff were non-existant for most of the meal. Once the management got the impression that we were frustrated with waiting so long to eat, they disappeared for the rest of the evening. The restaurant is a tapas style establishment so we are talking about very small entrees (I waited from 7:45 to 9:30 for a total of 3 sea scallops. With the bill, the waiter was apologetic but explained that there was nothing he could do other than "breathing down the kitchen's neck" (definite impression that he was trying to protect his tip). As far as the food goes, everything was better than average, but very, very sparse for the price and really not worth the wait or the experience. Oh, the waiter repeated the slammed story as the reason for the delay and nil service, but we had eaten here when the restaurant first opened and had lunch. We spent the better part of 2 hours looking at an empty table and wondering where the waiter was, so it is doubtful that this was an odd evening -- probably more like the worst of a normally bad situation. The chef needs to find a place with better management and the management / ownership needs to find another business pursuit that has nothing to do with running a restaurant. Definitely a restaurant for masochists!

“Fabulous Find!”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

We got off our little tour bus and walked down a most busy street. Sisters Bistro was a great find. We ate a most wonderful lunch. There was a wonderful selection of food and the price was very reasonable for a lunch menu. Service was great and fast. We ate outside on the porch. We will definitely come back and eat at this bistro.

“Sisters Bistro, Big City in a Small Town”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

Old Forge has many great restaurants of the “big plate” variety; bread, soup, salad, entrée and desert, and no meal complete without a doggy bag to take home.

Then there is Sisters Bistro. Creative dishes are locally sourced (some from the garden in the back yard) and served “small plate” or tapas style. There are daily specials, soups and deserts that can be shared at the table or combined into individual dinners. All dishes have suggested wine pairings and craft beers are on tap. Flavors combine with and enhance the lamb, crab cakes, scallops or salmon. The Sisters salad is a special favorite.

But good food is even more pleasurable in an inviting environment served by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Both sisters welcome you to their restored Victorian in the heart of Old Forge. Their bar beckons as you enter, and whether for a drink before of after dinner, or to visit with Mike, the bartender, it is a refuge from the busy world (no TV). Dining is available inside, on the porch or next to the sidewalk, or even at the bar. Not the typical Old Forge establishment, but well worth a stop the next time you are in our small town.

“So very very slow”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

We had the same experience as NYMommaL - we may have been the table in front of her - Our dinner reservations were for 5:00 (the time their kitchen opened for the evening). We had a lovely table on the porch which we had requested in our reservation. Service was SO slow!! The waiter, while friendly and knowledgeable on both food and wine selections, was slow in serving drinks and taking our order. Our first course was not served until 6:15. It was probably not the best choice to order dessert as that resulted in another ridiculously long wait. It was after 7:15 before we received our check. The food was wonderful, but it's very hard to imagine precisely what about anything on a tapas menu could take so long to prepare. There was no indication by anyone on the staff that they were busy or that there was anything unusual in their service timelines. It's unfortunate that that will be my lingering impression of Sisters Bistro. Also be aware that the menu on the website is not current and that these truly are tapas sized portions. If you know what you are getting in to, and are prepared to spend an entire evening, this is still worth trying.
