As a self proclaimed cheapskate when it comes to hotels, I normally choose the Super8 in Stamford, CT, when visiting Westchester County. The place has gotten very noisy and is not quite spotless, so I looked for something in the same price range equidistant from the burbs, that still has high-speed internet in the rooms. The Nyack Super8 is clean, clean, clean and quiet, quiet, quiet. While the Stamford Super8 is right next to a noisy bar & in a rather squalid neighborhood, the Nyack equivalent is a 1/2 mile from the Palisades Supermall, but on a quiet corner with easy access to Interstate 287. As a lone woman, I felt perfectly safe jogging around and going to the movies late at night. There's a free continental breakfast and a community refridg & microwave downstairs. Nyack is also a hip town, with lots of stuff to do, like yoga, antiques shopping and art films. You do have to pay $4 to cross the TappenZee each time you leave Nyack for Westchester, but it's so scenic & it makes you feel like a real New Yorker, even though you're not! The bed linens smelled like bleach and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The towels are utterly clean and fresh. The place is immaculate (by my standards anyway). In Stamford, I found old peanut shells behind the furniture but here even the bathroom tiles are pure white between the cracks.More
