Lanterna is my home-away from home while traveling to the area on business. You will get special seasonal things here like the sweet luscious Burrata cheese with supreme quality prosciutto di Parma. Imported from Italy of course. Even the table olive oil is really good.
On the main menu, basics such as polenta are expertly prepared and elevated to a new level. Pastas are among the best I've had and my dining buddy reports the same for their gluten free option.
Service at Lanterna has always been outstanding. Our waiters Freddy and John were attentive, professional and remembered what we had the last time. Chef/owner extradordinaire, Rossano, always stops by to say hello, explain special items, or avise on wine pairings. A real gentleman. My favorite part of the meal is dessert - with a beautiful chamomile infused spirit to cleanse the palate. I just wished we had our office party here.

Things change in the restaurant business and reputations may not hold. We had frequented this restaurant almost from the time it opened more than a decade ago. And after a hiatus of about a year we decided to revisit. We had the kind of experience however on the return visit that makes customers run the other way. Based on this recent debacle, it’s clear there is no one overseeing these days to ensure diners won’t have to endure rude, inappropriate, hostile behavior on the part of disruptive, drunken customers, while the staff does absolutely nothing.

We were a party of four anticipating a relaxing evening. Unfortunately there was a boisterous, over-the-top and very drunk crowd the middle of the room that was ruining every other diner’s meal- a group of women, a dozen or so, "celebrating" a birthday in the style one would find at rowdy bar, not a quiet, upscale bistro, whooping loudly, shouting, screaming, oblivious to several polite pleas to tone it down. This group was so hostile and unconcerned in fact that after several requests from many other diners including ourselves, first to the waiter and then to the party, as well stares all around from all, they became even more defiant, louder and more obnoxious. The owner was not present, the staff seemed helpless, and apparently there appeared to be no one in charge on site to ensure all goes smoothly so that customers -other than large parties of obnoxious drunks- are satisfied and happy. Bottom line: this is not what it used to be. The restaurant touts itself as fine dining, not drunken barroom. This gang was abusive, nothing was done, meals were ruined, and it’s obvious things have changed here, not for the better. We are not planning to return, given that no one saw fit to respond to a letter of complaint, sent to the owner first, as a courtesy, prior to posting this, which seems to say it all. Look elsewhere.

Dine here all the time. Love his chicken dish, the swordfish dish is to die for. The trio of pasta is so good we just order it as an extra so we don't miss anything. Does wine tastings dinners which are too good of a value to pass up. Go for dinner

Our first time there, so just first impressions. And they are good. Our reservation was for 6:00 and when we arrived, the place was already more than 30% full. In a half hour, not a free table left. Food is well prepared, service top-notch, friendly staff, and all comes to your table for a very fair price. Our wild board appetizer, which we had as a 1/2 of a meal portion, was rich, meaty, al dente, nicely balanced. The crab cakes were good-and- crabby, generous, nicely compemented with lots of salad. Sea Bass main course was done with capers, lemon, and fresh tomatoes. Nicely flavored, strong enough to be distinctive, yet not overpowered. At $27, it was priced in the right range of the fixed menu offerings. The front of the house host whose name we did not get was conversational, helpful, and considerate. A Lucca native, what else should we have expected. We enjoyed.
