Nyack Beach State Park has been closed since the Hurricane. I walked down to the park this week. It is still under construction. It will not be open until Memorial Day. It needs a lot of work.

When it is operational, access is easy. It's a great place for a hike. The views of the Hudson River are magnificent. It's a great place for family time or couple's time.

Try it!

Must pay to park even if a Rockland County resident. A few picnic tables, mostly hiking. Very scenic.

There is nothing better than the view from this State Park, which has a very small beach but is not swimmer friendly, unless you have four legs and a tail. However, the walking path is a great way to start your day, when it is maintained. Even before Hurricane Sandy there were areas that were looking run down and in need of repair. And for some reason there are no trash receptacles except for one small can at the start of the walk, underneath a dog-crap-bag station, which is often full to capacity with human and canine debris. Therefore, you will see trash left along the trail by inconsiderate users.

More recently, due to Hurricane Sandy and budget cuts, the path is in need of a great deal of repair and maintenance. Volunteers help out, and the caretakers do what they can, but this seems to be a "poor stepchild" of the State Park System.

Parking is usually adequate except on the busiest days when the drive to the parking lot is actually open. If it is not, then you may get a ticket if you try to park on the road leading to the Park.

Restrooms are seasonal.

The Park Ranger was nasty, but the park was beautiful. He yelled at me for using the restroom. Not friendly at all.
