Been visiting LL for over ten years - often with lots of kids in tow, and once a year (blissfully) with three fine friends for a long weekend away from urban life. This place is special: getting there is a bit of an adventure till you have done it a few times; there is a fine peace in realizing there are no TVs or cell phone service (but no problems if there is an emergency! 0lavi and Ann see to that!). The trails are great; the tupas are timeless; the quiet is without compare. This place might be the raison d'etre of the Adirondacks.. or at least, one of them.
And for tupa guests: the sauna is genuine.
(Once, about five years ago, there was a freak blizzard on our annual friends' weekend. Trees down, lightning, snow; we almost turned back but thanks to 4wd, made it up the grade. Got to our tupa; no electricity. No problem: Olavi had gone door to door with candles, firewood, and was running the generator. We had manicotti cooked on the woodstove, wine & dinner by candlelight. We went out walking that night across the creek bridges in the snow. Beautiful.)
Hope this place lasts forever...
