Rental equipment, lessons, and well groomed, extensive x-ctry ski trails are available on this mountain resort which is just north of Gore Mtn downhill ski center. We stayed at the lodge years ago in the summer - as a family - and enjoyed it here but just tried the ski trails for the first time and am looking forward to a repeat visit. This is the 2nd visit this year to a Nordic center, and in comparison to the Vt locale, the trails at Garnet Hill are more challenging. There is the easy Old Faithful trail which we stuck to initially but there's plenty of more difficult and expert trails available to make all skiing levels happy. The ski shop has gloves and equipment to purchase; the cafe which is under the same roof had self-serve chili, soup, and sandwiches, chips, etc. and a wood stove for winter warmth. This is a piece of the Adirondacks which is well worth the visit. Events are available and noted on their website.

We were looking an outdoor adventure and wanted to avoid the crowds on the long weekend (President's Day [weekend] ). We chose Garnet Hill Lodge. It would be my third time cross country skiing and it could not have been more fun! We skied about nine miles of well groomed trails - Garnet HIll boasts 55k (34 m) of trails with as much ups as downs. The trails are wide and vary in difficulty. The scenery is exquisite, and for much of the time, we were alone on the trails. It was a great workout at a reasonable price.
If you have the time and money, treat yourself to a stay at the lodge and a delicious meal!

We found this wonderful and off-the-beaten-track Lodge by accident and totally enjoyed the unspoilt ambiance, wood fire and excellent food. The service combined the professional with friendly and the views are superb. The bedrooms are a little dated now - but still warm, clean and comfortable.
During our stay my husband collapsed unexpectedly. The owners and staff were brilliant - getting an ambulance, arranging a helicopter and making sure sure that I got to the correct hospital along with my bags and our hire car in the shortest possible time. They went to a lot of trouble to do this and continued to support and advise me until my husband was fit to travel back to the UK.
So if you need a break with care above and beyond what can ever be expected - plus good cooking and live piano - then this is a spot I could thoroughly recommend.
