“Great Staff!”
Reviewed June 11, 2010

Upon arrival we were upgraded to the suite because it wasn't peak season and there was an issue in having our original room prepared. The suite was beautiful and the balcony and hotel pool (which were both a few steps from our door) overlooked the non-caldera side of the island providing a fantastic view.

The hotel is a 7-10 minute walk from the center of Fira, which given the size of the town is slightly inconvenient, but really not a problem at all if you're in decent physical condition. Amerisa is family-owned and run and the service was without a doubt the highlight of our stay. George was fantastic in providing us with maps, directions, booking assistance for tours and transportation, and recommendations on what to see and where to eat. Note: El Greco was his recommendation on where to get traditional Greek and specifically local Santorini food. It was affordable and the food was excellent!

I had a great time here and definitely recommend it to others.

After spending time on Sifnos, we travelled to Santorini which was entirely the opposite in terms of commerciality. Far more tourists as Santorini is pretty much geared to the tourist dollar. Still an unbelievably amazing sight to see buildings perched above the sea and has now been ticked off our 'bucket list'.
The Amerisa Suites were not on the caldera side however and faced towards the east, but still provided a wonderful view of neighbouring islands and was within easy walking distance of the main areas of Fira and Firostefani.
The suites were well appointed and we received an upgrade to a suite which had plenty of room with a large bathroom. Breakfast was served in a room on the top floor which caught all the morning sun and became a bit like a sauna even with blinds drawn, and was a bit minimal so far as what was offered.
However, the owner George was always willing to assist or provide advice and nothing was ever a problem. His partner, who collected us from the port on arrival, was also happy to help but was a little limited in her understanding of english (or turned around, our limited knowledge of Greek).
Santorini is a must visit place for anyone although a property with a view of the caldera would be the best place to stay, depending on the budget. Amerisa Suites is a fairly good option if you view hotel rooms as a place to sleep at night because everything is close to the property.

nice hotel itself, good and friendly service, clean rooms, adequate breakfast... BUT...be warned, the location of this hotel is in the U bend of a busy road - the road runs along the front of the hotel, then the side, then the back.

The value for this hotel is pretty good! We had a nice room, but the staff make it the most memorable for us. They definately went above and beyond -- and when they heard we were going to Mykonos next, they called up their friend and we worked out a negotiated rate to stay with them.

The rooms were always clean, the breakfast upstair on the top was fun. The girl who worked at there did pretty much everything, and she was fantastic!

It's been a year ago, and I still remember the experience at the hotel as though it was yesterday!!

The location was not far from anything - yet not so close you can hear the crowds at night. Some people complained about the location being on a tight corner of a hairpin road, but I experience no problems during our stay!

The staff made this a friendly and pleasant stay, always helpful. Our "suite" was a classy very nicely decorated room with a little extra furniture and small fridge fit into it. They have made use of a slightly awkward location, furnishing it beautifully and using every inch of space. Yet, it is still a hike from town (we got lost every time) and the pool is the tiniest my kids have ever seen ("they should make it into a hot tub, mom"). Worth a stay for sure at the discounted rate!

I recently returned from what was almost a ruined trip to Santorini. About a week before arrival I booked this hotel through a local travel agency. I thought I would be staying at a quality hotel based on some of the reviews here. The photos were also incredibly deceiving.

Myself and a female friend believed we had lined up the perfect hotel for a girl's getaway. When we arrived, we were greeted at the desk by a man named Mike. Clue#1 that something was off about this hotel, was that Mike was wearing a tshirt which read "Yawn. Take me to bed." I was appalled with the utter lack of professional attire worn by hotel staff.

My friend and I were escorted to a room that essentially had a balcony entrance directly off the road. The room was the antithesis of luxury. While I must say the bathroom was clean, the sheets were rough. There was a small portable tv in the room that overall looked more like a dormitory than anything else. I was also concerned with the safety of this location being that we were two female travelers. It made me uncomfortable being so close to the road without a secure entrance into the hotel.

I addressed these concerns with the staff, and we were moved into a more interior room within the hotel. Our safety concerns were addressed with much hostility by the hotel manager, George. George rudely asked us if we were from a dangerous area in the world, and essentially dismissed our concerns. We explained to him that we are both from the States, and that precautions should be taken anywhere, especially by two females traveling together. Though the staff may have meant no harm after reading a tshirt worn by a staff member with such strong sexual innuendo, I have to wonder about what potential threats surrounded the nearby area.

The second room was much nicer, and I question why we were not offered this room in the first place. However, the quality of the room was still not up to the standards with which I am accustomed. We found hair in the bed that did not match our own. Also, the soap produced an offensive odor, causing my friend to feel extremely nauseated.

My friend and I ventured away from the hotel to see Fira. We decided to return to the hotel around 9pm. What is described as a short walk to Fira by my travel agent turned out to take an hour as we got lost in the maze of streets. When we were returned to the hotel we explained to George that we were going to stay at a different hotel due to the location, and other factors previously mentioned. George stated in anger that we should have called him when we were lost on the way back from Fira, and that he would have picked us up. First of all while getting lost we had no clue where we were, and would have never been able to describe a location for pickup. Secondly, I found it odd that he thought we would accept a ride from someone who was essentially a stranger.

George then became incredibly angry, and said that we must pay 100% of our stay even though we were not canceling our stay, and only lessening our time. George informed us that in order to pay a 50% less stay fee which is what we believed to have agreed upon, we must speak to Athena(not sure of spelling of her name) the hotel owner the following day. He also informed us that three days of stay had already been charged though we had not signed for this.

Upon our check out the next day, Athena was not there for consultation about our situation. Also,George spent a great deal of time speaking with her on the phone, supposedly working out our situation. It seemed as if he was just now charging the account, so clearly he LIED about charging the account the previous night. His lies were most likely in an attempt to intimidate us.

Numerous sources in the Greek hotel industry, as well as various Greek friends of mine informed us that their policy of 100% payment for shortened stay is against Greek law. Had we had more time on the island we would have contacted the Tourism Bureau and pursued legal ramifications.

All the reviewers on here who speak negatively of this hotel are correct. The staff here lies, and belligerantly reacts to any complaint. I have never witnessed such unprofessional service. I have traveled through Europe many times, and nothing about this hotel was the norm. Lucky for my friend and I we found another hotel in Fira which had a discounted rate out of sympathy for our situation. Please do not book your stay here. You will truly be sorry.

What the advertising does not show, is the very noisy street surrounding the hotel - which is rather disturbing day and night. The management claims there are soundproof windows - for sure not in our room. Falling asleep was rather hard.
The pool is very small and the place is lacking umbrellas. Also the jacuzzi was not very inviting. Staff has promised to clean it, but nothing happened. It is not a hotel for a romantic stay nor for a family with children (too dangerous with the street).

Also we have to say that we did not feel a warm welcome by the staff. We thought that in fact we never had experienced such attitude during any stay so far.

We were very disappointed and happy that we have only booked three nights. If we were in Santorini for a week, we would definitely have changed the hotel.

We also recommend to book a hotel in Oia where you will have a great view and probably better value for money and friendlier staff...
