Antonia Hotel Santorini
Ranked #18 of 81 Hotels in Fira
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 6, 2014

With over 300 "excellents" from 4oo+ reviews, a 97% recommended rating, and a 9th ranking of 76 hotels in Fira, is it little wonder that this two star hotel gets a 6 star rating for service and location. I know from experience that searching for your ideal hotel on Trip Advisor can be revealing and frustrating, especially if the type of hotel you have in mind just does not seem to appear. For Fira, as an ideal place to stay on magnificent Santorini, you need look no further if you want well located thoroughly affordable accommodation with great service, pleasant rooms and free transit that you will realise is quite a bonus. The best choice we made on 5 Greek islands on our trip even with higher rated hotels.

Hotel Antonia has a huge amount to offer. The owner, Lefteris, is a gem. He and Mario ( night staff) provide every service you could ask for. He communicated well for our on-line booking. We stayed for 4 nights (high season) at 240 Euro ($400 NZ) for an apartment with kitchenette, large bedroom, sitting area and furnished balcony. This is very reasonable for expensive Fira because it does not have caldera views (to the west), rather it looks to the east over the sloping landscape towards the airport. It is conveniently located 200 meters from the main street that runs through Fira and the square, less than 5 minutes walk to the bus station, and only a short distance through the square to the caldera view. Perfect. Plenty of taverna and bars in this area, several mini markets, walking streets and shopping, sunset views on the caldera edge and the best gyros in the square (for lunch). For the price you will not do better than this.

The hotel does not offer breakfast and this is no problem as there are plenty of choices all around. The real bonus is the free pick up and drop off at the new port (and airport too). The port is pure chaos when the mid afternoon ferry disembarks but Lefteris makes it easy. Everyone commented on this and his reliability. We left at midnight on the Blue Star for Rhodes and Lefteris delivered us right to the port at that time of night. And yes they have a secure transit room and shower to use after checkout but if you have a late night departure. Amazingly good.

The apartment was a good size, a small well equipped kitchenette, good bathroom with some space to move and places to put toiletries, a refrigerator, safe, the air conditioner worked, a balcony with chairs and place to dry laundry, and the bed and bedding was perfect. The room was thoroughly clean and the housekeeper was unobtrusive and did a wonderful and discrete job. We used the two pools - the one that appears to be part of the next door hotel is actually Antonia's and is much better and sunnier than the other.

There were a number of young people staying in the standard rooms and they were great company and added a vibrancy. The reception area was a focal point and here you were offered bottomless cups of real coffee and famously Lefteris' own white wine, which believe me was very acceptable . He provided us with numerous complementary carafes (and restocked our fridge) during our stay which was consumed in the setting sun on the balcony. His suggested visit to Santo Wines was a highlight. Took up an afternoon and we opted for the 12 wine flight tasting (including white and red and some sweet wines) in a huge wine facility which was easily accessible by local bus (rather than an expensive tour). Try the Santorini Vinsanto 2004 vintage - truly unique wine and the local Assyrtiko variety. Santorini is know for its wine quality.

The bus station was easy to use to Oia (north), Santo wines (south), the southern beaches and the setlements to the east. The fares are cheap and it is the ideal way to see much of the island. The sunsets at Oia are accessible by bus but be prepared for crowds.

This hotel over-delivers. You will not be disappointed unless you are looking for 5 star quality and even then at Fira, such a standard at treble the price is similar to much at Antonia hotel in many respects. As good as it gets and for the price the best hotel choice we made in Greece.

Room Tip: Grade up a little to the well equipped apartment rooms - more space with a kitchenette and a usable...

I spent four very comfortable nights here in June 2014 -- Lefteris and his family provided me amazing Greek hospitality -- from the ferry/airport pick-up/drop-off, to the complimentary carafe of wine (with free refills) to free coffees in the morning, to all his advice on where to go on the island / restaurant recommendations, and an overall attitude of wanting to make sure I was satisfied with my stay. I had an apartment with a kitchen and small balcony, which was very convenient and roomy. There is a small market on the corner for any snack needs and a laundry service across the street. The hotel is positioned just a short walk up to the edge of the caldera in Fira and is also just a short walk to the bus station for rides anywhere else on the island. The two pools were very refreshing and relaxing after busy days walking in Fira and Oia. Thanks, Lefteris!

Every once in awhile you happen upon a hotel where you feel you've joined the family. Lefteris and his family provide such a warm welcome and such solicitous attention! His 14-yr-old daughter gave me particular help after an ankle sprain and continued to check up on me each time we intersected thereafter. She has a great future in the hospitality industry.

Our room, which included a kitchenette, was a good size and well appointed. The entire hotel appeared pretty new and sparkling. We loved our balcony, which included a view of the (east coast, not cliff side) sea. The hotel has two small pools and a jacuzzi. It's located on a quiet little street not far from all the action. Perfect location.

They don't serve breakfast, but here is something better: Go up the street to the bakery (they will show you where) and buy a spinach pie or magnificent custard phyllo marvel and bring breakfast back to Hotel Antonia, where they will give you all the coffee you want. As a special treat, we were given a small pitcher of a local white wine to enjoy on that lovely balcony.

They do pickup / drop-off at airport and port, no charge -- a huge simplification of logistics. The price of the room was extremely reasonable for what we got and especially for the location. Go! You'll love it.

We stayed here a couple of nights and it was great. The owner is amazingly friendly and helpful and the rooms were lovely and clean. The location was great as we were walking distance from the square.

This place is absolutely amazing. First you get a private taxi from airport / port that bring you to the hotel. It's location is perfect for anywhere you need to go

The owner (Lefteris) is one of the nicest and friendliest Greek I've met. He take cares of you and know the island pretty well. If you need any kind of service (like renting a car) he will arrange you for cheap at a good place. Mario works in the lobby at night and he is hilarious, a really nice guy.

The rooms are probably renovated cause they look brand new. The beds are comfortable and everything is super clean.
They give you free coffee or wine anytime you want, you just need to ask in the lobby.

I would recommend to anyone going to santorini
