“A good budget option - but the service outshines the rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2010

If I could've given this place 3.5 stars, I would have. There are great things about this place but things that let it down which could really easily be put right. Our room was adequately sized, modestly/simply decorated and had a huge terrace. But there was nowhere to put the shower attachment which was a big pain and not a great deal of hanging space either. BUT - the pool area was perfect for sunbathing, if that's your thing and it is mine. Chris, the guy on reception was very friendly and helpful - he brought us a glass of wine most afternoons and was never intrusive. The breakfasts were fair to middling but the girl who brought them was very smiley and helpful. The place could just do with a little more polish for the full four starts. A bit more attention to detail would give it a lot more charm and it really wouldn't take a lot of effort.

I'd recommend it as a solid budget option if you keep in mind you get what you pay for!

We made a booking for four nights over the internet. I missed the bit about calling 48 hours prior to arriving so called when we were 1 hour away and it was no problem. They came and picked us up from the Fira bus station and dropped us off at the port when we left. Check in took some time as everything was explained to us and all the tours described!! Very welcoming.

I am going to completely disagree with the previous reviewers - the staff could not possibly have been friendlier. Chris and the lady workers were so lovely, they really made the place for us. I will agree with the other reviewers though and say that the bed was hard as a board and left me with hip brusies. Silly me should have asked for extra blankets for padding. The room was a decent size and the bathroom huge and the balcony even bigger, we had the room that you can see coming up the driveway.

The pool area is great and you get served breakfast around it, which in true greek style was generous; yogurt and honey, toast, cheese, eggs, coffee and juice. Also, they have a pool bar with free drinks! Only wine stocked when we were there as there beer had run out as it was towards the end of season - no problems for me! Lovely wine from a local supplier.

My partner slipped down the stairs so i recommend not going up and down them when wet!!! They were really concerned and helpful about it.

Location is pretty good if you don't want to stay in the centre, walk up hill for 10 minutes and you're there though. They organised a quad bike for a day for us, getting the guy to come and pick us up from the hotel.

Loved it, will definitely be going back.

I just went on a trip to Greece with a group of friends. We had wanted to save some money, so we found Rena's Villas as an affordable option. I agree with the other review from August. The rooms are tiny. The beds are extremely uncomfortable. However, what made the hotel unbearable for me was the rudeness of the proprietor. He gave away the room we had reserved, and gave us a different room in a different hotel across the street. I can understand that August in Greece is high travel season, and he may have been able to charge 4x as much for the room we originally booked. However, when he told us about the room change, he was rude and sleazy. When we asked a few simple questions trying to solve the problem, he yelled at us, criticized the way we booked the hotel (through a travel website??) and essentially anything else he could criticize. This incident unfortunately tainted the hotel for me for the rest of the vacation.

In addition to the rudeness of the proprietor, the rooms are extremely tiny. The beds are hard; the pillows sparse and uncomfortable. Additionally, the bathroom flooded everytime we showered. Our showerhead broke off, and we were forced to shower outside in a public bathroom. There was no lock on the door and several people walked in on me. It was just not an enjoyable experience.

The location of the hotel is fine, near Fira. However, next time I would not stay here, or in any of the adjacent properties since they are under the same management. I would suggest staying at a slightly more expensive hotel for a better experience.

We recently spent 3 nights there and found the place to be very uncomfortable and the proprietor to be very argumentative and rude. Our room was so tiny, you could barely walk around the bed. The even smaller bathroom flooded every time we took a shower, and was left with a strong musty odor. The room was clean, however, and the two ladies serving breakfast and cleaning the rooms were very good. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It is better to spend a little more and be able to really relax. The double bed was barely a double and was hard as a board. There were other visitors complaining about the same issues while we were there so I don't think it was just our room. It was situated near the town village which was nice and in walking distance. This was good, especially if you didn't mind walking in donkey mess on the way there.

We could not fault this hotel, it suited us well. Mr Panos was very helpful on arrival, telling us all the things to do on the island with such enthusiasm you would think it was his first time telling a tourist! Great location for Fira, excellent service and facilities. Good value for your money.

Very helpful employees. They came and picked us up and also took us to the airport, they didn't want a tip only to write a nice review on here for them! Very nice breakfast in the morning over looking a beautiful view on the farms in Fira. Walking distance to main shopping area, restaurants and the old port where the donkeys walk up to the city.

GREAT PLACE AT THE BEST SPOT

We found this hotel based on tripadvisor reviews and were incredibly happy with it. The hotel is run with tender loving care by a very friendly, welcoming and attentive family.
This hotel was definitely one of the nicest in the area! The views are just beautiful and there was a pretty good breakfast offered for free every morning! The room is a little on the cozy side but sufficient considering European standards. The bathroom was nice, great shower (which other places in Greece didn't have). The views from the pool are extraordinary and the Fira center is just a 7 min walk away.
The best part was the helpful informations from the reception guy I think he’s name was Panos and he really help us so mutch and we save some money too.
Breakfast was great and served in a large pool area or adjacent deck with the same spectacular view, was also pretty good ( for European standards) with breads, yoghurt with honey, cheese, ham and eggs The pool and surround is also fantastic with lounge chairs and looking out over the east side sea. Everything is kept immaculately clean. The owner/operators (mom, dad, son, etc) were always cleaning or working hard to make everyone's stay enjoyable. Most of them spoke good english.
The pool was also great for those days you don't want to go to the beach - very relaxing and probably about 15 or so lounge chairs (there were always a few people by the pool but we never had a problem getting 2 lounge chairs together). Also a very friendly staff which even gave us a free transfer from airport . I would definitely recommend this hotel and would certainly stay there again.
Thanks to Rena’s Villas I found out a nice local family and I did some nice friends.
