“Fantastic view, fantastic staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2012

Second time to Santorini and we wanted to have a place closer to town but not so close that the noise would be a problem. Athina suites was an exclellent choice. Located down the cliff a bit we had an unconstructed view of the caldera while having breakfast on out private terrace. Staff was great, picked us up at the airport and set our bags up in our room after sharing some vinsanto. Nice touch.

Lovely staff but quite an old hotel requiring renovations. Amazing location/view. Nice pool area. Our old tv in the room didn't work and there was a terrible smell coming from the bathroom pipes but overall a good place to stay for the price. Like all Santorini hotels you pay a fortune for the view.

We booked this hotel after days, no weeks of scanning on the internet for that perfect caldera view with pool at a reasonable price. We took a chance and left it until the last minute to book, which paid off as the prices dropped and we got this hotel for roughly £100 a night which we felt was a good deal considering it's location. We booked online with booking.com, it was a bit odd because the payment was not taken then we were told you pay the hotel direct. We read with some concern that this hotel had been over booking people to other hotels and worried we had made a mistake.
Thankfully, we got a room on arrival, but other people did not apparently, we were offered an 'upgrade' to a hotel about 15 mins outside of Fira the day afrer we'd aeeived, we declined but realised it was because of over bookings. I think this lets this place down, as overall it is a good hotel, the rooms are small, tiny bathroom and the whole place could generally have a bit of money spent on it, a bit tatty in parts, are bathroom was very shabby and not what the pictures depicted, however, the localtion and views from your terrace and room make up for it's shortcomings, the pool is lovely, nice sunbeds and ours had an entrance from our terrace. They serve a lovely continental brecky when you want it right outside your door with that view, infact we hardly moved from the place. Loved watching all the comings and goings from the old port below and the cruise ships!

The staff were also friendly to us and if you tell them your arrival time they will get a guy to carry your luggage as it is a bit of a treck from the top road down, so not good if you have any mobility issues.

So all in all we had a great stay, very close to all shops and restaurants, bus station, airport etc, but the downside is you don't know if you'll get the room you booked.

We had room 7

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have a good view we had room 7 it was small but nice, room 6 was not good as you s...

We have just returned from a 10 day stay at this location. Everything about our stay was absolutely fantastic. The host Lena cold not have been more helpful. From the moment we arrived to our departure she made us feel really special. She even posted our postcards!!! All of the staff were really attentive and nothing was too much bother. Breakfast, served on your own private balcony was so flexible and was served between 8am and noon, so lazy mornings were not a problem. We had a daily maid service and the accommodation was always spotless after her visit.

The accommodation is on a small complex of just 9 suites, each one different and unique which made for a really quiet and enjoyable stay. Its split over 4 levels with the higher levels getting the sun earlier in the morning. The pool area was never crowded as they are such few guests using the facility. The views over the Calderi were stunning, particularly at sunset

My only gripe was that there no tea or coffee making facilities. However, we made a special request for a kettle and this was supplied.

Although this is not a cheap venue, its well worth the money

Room Tip: Rooms are on 4 levels with the lower levels getting the closet view over the sea, but every level ha...

Honestly it was the best place to stay at Fira. To begin with, the staff there were really helpful and most important nice people. The place itself made our holiday more pleasant. It was at the best spot near to the fun (shops, food, bars and clubs) about 4 min walk but at the same time it was not noisy and peaceful for us to relax. The hotel was at the edge of the cliff with the best view of Fira. For us the best thing at Athina suites was having breakfast with that great view. The breakfast was simple and tasty. Also, we could have the breakfast when we wanted and not to rush everyday to wake up. The room was very clean and comfortable. Our choice of Athina suites was the best choice we could have made. We definitely reccomment it...!!!! Charis and Maria from Cyprus

As several others has pointed out, it seems that this hotel is not to be trusted. We (2 couples) arrived late 13 July and was met with a written note from the hotel that the "unfortunately" had overbooked and that we would be hosted in a nearby hotel the first two nights. Reading from other reviews this seems to be more a modus that an unfortunate mistake..... When you plan to stay 6 nights, it is not nice to have to be relocated, but there was no one to talk to and nothing to do about it that night. Two days later, we learned that we were relocated - not to Athina - but to a small studio house approx. 80 meters from the hotel. A big surprise! Especially one of the rooms were old with an not very nice bathroom. Bathrobes and slippers that was promised - forget it... No shampoos (but was provided after we complained). The terrace outside the studios had be be shared with strangers, Fira's lower footpath was just outside the terrace fence, where everyone passing could see us (even straight through the bedroom windows). In addition donkeys was passing all the time. There were no reception to prevent burglary etc which made us feel somewhat insecured. In order to be able to use the swimming pool and to have our breakfast, we had to walk by this foothpath (and be careful not to step on the donkeys' droppings). The breakfast was served by the pool while all the other guest was served their breakfast on ther own semiprivate terraces. We complained to the hotel receptionist, but the hotel was not able or willing to mitigate the situation. Thus we had to stay in those rooms the rest of our stay in Fira which made our stay not so nice as we had expected. We have visited Fira several times but have never experienced such a service from a hotel. We have of course complained to our travel agency and claimed refund of the hotel cost, but this will not make up for a somewhat reduced vacation experience. So if you consider to stay at Athina you take a considerably risk.

Aftr having booked this hotel directly through their webpage and after having contacted several times the receptionist and confirmed everything several weeks before our arrival in Santorini, on the same day we were departing to Santorini, I had a disappointing surprise in my mail (that I read by any chance as I was spending some days without wifi connection): a mail from the recepcionist telling us 17h before our arrival that due to allocation mistake from their side, they had no availability and had managed to obtain a reservation for us in another hotel in another city next to Fira. We refused that and got upset. Upon our arrival at Athina Suites, the recepcionist told us we could stay, as confirmed, at Athina Suites but that if we were interested, she had managed to book at a Small Luxury Hotel of the World in Imeroviglion. Thus we finally stayed the first night at Athina Suites and the second one at the other hotel. It is important for other guests that it seems to be a common practice at this hotel. And even if we had this problem with this hotel, the staff remained polite and very friendly. The transfer from Athina Suites to the other hotel was organised by Athina Suites and free of charge of course.
Athina Suites is incredibly situated, on the caldera side, with gorgeous views on the caldera and on Thira. The hotel welcomed us with some fruits and a bottle of wine. The swimming-pool is incredibly situated and rooms are comfortable even if some of them need to be painted again. Our conditioning air had some problems. There is a TV and a cd-radio system in them. The breakfast is served every morning in front of the room, on the semi-private terrace. Wifi is only available at the reception.
Thus, besides the bad surprise and the problem we had at our arrival, I would recommend this hotel for the views, the rooms and the situation. BUT, even if your booking is confirmed expect yourself to be told at the last minute that your booking has been cancelled and that you are reallocated in another hotel.
