Aressana Spa Hotel and Suites
Ranked #11 of 81 Hotels in Fira
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 6, 2012

We stayed at the Aressana for 8 nights and had a wonderful stay. The hotel is absolutely beautiful , very classy, clean and well decorated. We were upgraded on arrival (a nice surprise!) to an upper floor room which we found to be extremely comfortable and a good size. The bed was huge and very lovely to sleep on and the aircon worked very well. The bathroom was a little on the small side but still very nice, fresh towels were delivered daily and our rooms were cleaned every day on request. In the evening a maid would bring us two little cakes and offer night service. We also had a balcony with two chairs and a table which was lovely to sit out on.

The pool was perhaps slightly smaller than expected but it was a luxury that many other of the hotels in the area could not offer and we were usually the only two in there. The water was cold but very refreshing and the seating around the pool was incredible.

The staff were always more than happy to help you out- we got sun-burnt quite badly one day and we were given a 'local remedy' of greek yoghurt which worked wonders! The staff seemed to take a personal interest in all of its guests and made for a truly friendly atmosphere.

We ate in several nights and found the food to be not only delicious but very competitively priced, and the staff were happy to change aspects of the dishes or add ingredients.
We took advantage of the spa facilities during our stay and received excellent service. The hotbeds and Jacuzzi can be used for a very reasonable price and the massages we had were excellent.
Breakfast, as we were warned was very Greek and is perhaps not to everyone's taste. There was a wide variety of choice and always something we enjoyed- the honey especially was amazing. We were always offered coffee/tea each morning and the juices were greatly enjoyed.

Overall - an unforgettable stay.

Nice location, friendly helpful staff and clean rooms. A little expensive though. Didn't try the food, so i can't judge. As for the pool don't get fooled by the photos, the pool is quite small but still nice, if you can find a place :).

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights . This hotel is located in a fantastic location in Fira, accessible to everything and views of the water from the main cliff  is a 30 second walk .  The foyer, dining room and bar area are very appealing, central to the hotel and that's all the good points.
Not so good points.
1 Ants in the room  ensuites  Showers leak water into main entry.  Sewer stench every time you have a shower. Had to ask for fresh towels on 2 occasions.  This was the first night and we we requested an upgrade, they could only offer  us  a compatible room which had same issues except for the ants.

2 Buffet breakfast. Upon arrival the host advised it was the best mediterranean breakfast and that we would love it .  We found Bugs  in the water melon and honey dew melon. ( 1st morning)   2nd morning melon was rotten and everybody was leaving it on their plates. We Asked  for a standard  coffee did not receive it  and when we asked fora  espresso coffee they charged for it and received it on the spot .Overall the food looked like it was left over from the morning before. After the second morning we did not eat at this place and went down to the local cafe.

3 Pool bar service.  Simply no service. There was nobody at the bar 60 % of the time. You had to go and look for somebody to serve you. Bar staff unfriendly and when we asked for pool towels it was like asking for gold.(Morning 4 towels were still wet from the washing machine)  We also asked the staff where the external toilets were and they could not tell us if there were any ..

4. We asked the concierge where a particular restaurant was, and if they could book  a reservation for us and they advised the would book only to find on arrival there was no booking.  The staff at the restaurant knew nothing of it.. The concierge were not rude but not real helpful at all ( all care no responsibility)

5 Main lounge  bar. Could not order a drink as there was no body present 90% of the time.

6 Finally  the lady that walked around each morning doing absolutely nothing, only carrying her clip board around .  She questioned our stay, reason being as we were never at breakfast each morning and had not seen us.

Overall this Aressanna is a nice hotel and as mentioned earlier in a great spot on the island.  Senior management really need to assess the day to day operations of this place and make some changes being  in their best interest.  I would never recommend this place to any body to stay at and will never return. Disappointed Customer..

Excellent hotel, in a great location with great service. Can be pricey, so if you can get it on a good deal then go for it. Only minor drawback was the wifi does not work in some rooms due to "thick walls" as the hotel puts it. Breakfast was interesting - others raved about it, I think just do the basics right and leave the fancy stuff out (for example they would poor a tablespoon of honey in a tiny bowl - a small single pack would do the job just fine!).

The hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly and caring. I had a cold when i arrived in Santorini, so they asked the kitchen to cook me a chicken soup.

The room was ok, the bathroom is small. Taking a bath was a disaster, due to the plumbing system, the water leaked across the bathroom floor. Our room didn't have a good view, and whilst there, it was really windy so it was quite noisy. I didn't use much of the facilities as I was lying in bed most of the time.

If I get another chance to visit Santorini, I would stay here again.

We stayed here during our time in Santorini and the hotel was clean, the staff was friendly and our room was fine. The stay met our expectations, but didn't exceed them.

Our room was quite small and had two twin beds pushed together, which was the hotel's version of a "double bed." Not very romantic for honeymooners.

Our complimentary breakfast was average. It is served on an indoor patio type room, and some of the food had flys landing on it. Not very appetizing. The temperature of the food was always luke warm. Nothing was hot or cold. One morning, I asked for fresh scrambled eggs and was told it was too late to have them made. The selection of food was OK, but compared to other hotels we've stayed, wasn't the best tasting.

The pool area was absolutely gorgeous! Very nice bungalow tents to keep the shade in and the pool was very clean. My only complaint is that there wasn't anyone coming around to offer drinks or food. The pool bar was rarely staffed (if at all).

I had a massage at the spa and it was average. There was no consultation before the massage began and no follow-up afterward.

Overall, the stay was good, but the offerings could have been better.

Dear Adrienne L,
Thank you for your review. We are glad that you had a good overall stay.

We would like to wish you and your husband belated congratulations on your marriage again. We hope that you enjoyed the fresh fruits and bottle of wine that was in your room upon arrival. All our rooms are 2 single beds next to each other and upon the client’s request can be turned into a large King-size bed. As far as I can see in our files, your room was made up for a double bed occupation. Should that have not been done, we apologize for this mishap. Did you inform the Front Desk about it? Housekeeping would have been notified immediately and it would have been corrected right away.

The Greek & Santorinian breakfast buffet has been carefully created after long researching. The cold products that need to stay at a certain (by law indicated) temperature are in the small fridges. The “warm food” is served to the general taste of most of the guests: lukewarm and always fresh. I would like to inform that we are talking August temperatures and that outside it is a quick 30 degrees C early in the morning. We do not have, for example, scrambled eggs bubbling and cooking in large pans for hours: they are made fresh and served out onto the buffet immediately. We usually have raving reviews about our breakfast and the way that it is served, but I can appreciate that not all tastes are alike.

I will look into your complaint about the pool bar staff. It is true that the hotel was and is extremely busy in August and most probably the pool bar staff was assisting the other waiters during the busy lunch hours, but that certainly does not make-up for leaving the pool bar un-attended. Thank you for that notice.

Before any Spa treatment, there is a consultation health form that you have to fill out and the therapist has to read that first before she can start the therapy. These are standard procedures. There is no need for a follow-up, since the therapies are for relaxing purposes and we do not do medical treatments.

I hope that we can continue to be your choice of hotel on Santorini and look forward to welcoming you back with us soon and to give us a chance to redeem ourselves in your eyes.\

Warm Island Regards,
Jacqueline Esselaar

Looking after their guests, is a natural capability of all the staff... There are no scripted welcomes, it's just down to earth honest interactions. Having travelled the world many times, I can say that Aressana is the best Accommodation I have experienced. The staff, the room(s), the breakfast, the pool, the poolside bar, the location, the hotel size and have I mentioned the natural behaviour of the staff?... There is nothing pretentious about them... You ask, and they do!... Taking all of these points into consideration, I re-state, this is #1... (if you like big brash hotel chains, then you probably won't enjoy this one... But if you want a holiday, where you really unwind, then this is THE place.... We loved it (family of 6)... We will be coming back here again, without children... i.e. It is fantastic for couples too...
