“Small but informative”
Reviewed August 3, 2014

This small museum has an excellent collection of artefacts tracing the prehistory of the island of Thera. They are well-organized, with labels in English. The stars among the exhibits are the wall paintings from the excavations at Akrotiri and a small, but very beautiful golden ibex, but the whole museum is quite fascinating. The museum is surprisingly uncrowded even in the high tourist season so you can really enjoy the exhibits! If you visit the ruins at Akrotiri, adding a visit to the museum is an absolute must. Seeing both will give you a much better picture of the Minoan settlement on the island.

“A must see!”
Reviewed July 29, 2014 via mobile

If you go to one museum - let it be this one! If you've made it to Akrotiri or Thera (and Akrotiri was also excellent) then this will help put it all in context. The wall paintings, golden ibex and 62 000 year old fossilised olive tree are incredible to see and the information is clear and helpful. Highly recommended!

Very informative museum in the heart of Fira Town. We love museums and this was not exception. A nice break from excavated sites and shopping.

“An unexpected gem in Fira”
Reviewed July 29, 2014

A good opportunity to see Ancient Greek artefacts and art under one roof, without going out of your way, as it's in the centre of Fira.
