We expected lots and saw a lot less than we had hoped. We were told that many of the great exhibits had been taken off display over the past 5 years and, presumably, sent back to Athens. There were copies of some famous frescoes, a lot of cleverly repaired pots and a beautiful miniature gold antelope (the best of the show!).

Sorry, it was nothing like we had hoped....

Incredible artefacts dating back 1700 BC. Probably not large enough and little confusing as the old museum is very prominent in Fira. However it is astounding to see the product of a society that existed 4000 years ago

This museum can be viewed easily in an hour, and has some superb artifacts from Akrotiri and the surrounding area. A great place to spend some time on a rainy day, or before a visit to the archaeological site.

Once you've seen the archeological site at Akrotiri, stop by the museum to see the objects recovered during the excavation. Unbelievable pottery and frescos dating back thousands of years in phenomenal shape. Truly impressive.

The museum is very much worth a visit. You can see archaeological findings from different epochs.
It was a pleasure to see the first piece that was found in Akrotiri..the golden little goat...this led to the full excavation work that we see today in Akrotiri.
