Hotel nice and clean lots of pools front desk people friendly and helpful the concierge desk very helpful
restaurants staff - not so helpful don't recommend eating at the restaurant except if you have breakfast included
walk to main street in fira 5minute walk much better food and prices
You need to clarify if your room has a bathtub a lot of the rooms don't showers are a little different there
don't be surprised it is on the main road leading into town but we had volcano view room and with doors closed couldn't hear the street

We stayed here 10 years before, it is now much (3x) bigger but because of the layout around 3 main pools and 2 other pools it does not seem large at all. Service was exemplary especially from the concierge who booked restaurants and a boat trip to our requests.

Lotus Spa (on site) was also excellent - the best, most relaxing, relaxation massage from Nicky (not sure of the Greek spelling) and gorgeous spa pool and sitting area.

This is a lovely large spacious hotel with great staff and great location and good informal breakfast. We had e-mailed the hotel before arrival and did not get a reply we did not get the room we had paid for and had to change .The receptionist was very helpful to find a room which met our requirements. The problem with this hotel is that it is large and attracts wedding parties. We had the privilege of experiencing a wedding party from the part of the British Isles which uses the euro as its currency. We felt very sorry for the many international guests at this hotel as the wedding party's behavior was deplorable as anticipated and caused unnecessary disturbance.

Room tip: Room 201 is lovely

We were due to stay at El Greco for our entire stay however we were given a room ( and it seemed one of the few rooms ) without a decent balcony and terribly far from the pools. While all the facilities looked immaculate and all the staff were polite and friendly I felt I needed to ask for another room.
Fortunately my husband and I came across an exceptional customer service representative at reception, Elena, who immediately began to look to organise better accommodation for us. She secured an upgrade at their sister hotel, Santorini Palace , transfers within the hour and reinstated our transfers from the new hotel to the port later in the week.
All in all a wonderful experience even though we didn't get to actually stay at the hotel
Santorini Palace was also amazing with excellent staff
Again, special mention regarding Elana and the care she took to make our 25th wedding anniversary memorable.

The El Greco is situated just to the south of Fira town centre, it is right on the caldera edge, just the road separating the hotel from the 'cliff', not the most scenic, but still pretty spectacular views.
There is a fairly exposed (to the wind) walk along the caldera, about 200-300m to the Carrefour supermarket after which you are effectively in Thira, with little roads leading off to the left to all the delights of the caldera edge.
The hotel itself is super, a collection of large 'courtyards' (levels) around decent sized pools and all rooms on the ground or first floor. We had a 'superior' room as part of our package and this was in 'level' 5, very quiet and restful, about 70 m from the bar and reception.
The room was either new or recently refurbished and absolutely spotless, good bathroom with a great shower and plenty of hot water. It had it's own wifi point so in room internet connectivity was good for a hotel.
Level 5 also had it's own restaurant, open for breakfast only, and much quieter than the main restaurant which could get very busy at peak times. Breakfasts were fine if a little lacking in imagination, more fresh fruit and perhaps an 'omelette station' would have been good.
All in all I thought the hotel to be excellent, staff were always helpful and the whole operation seemed to run smoothly and well, bar prices were average for Thira, which is not cheap. Highly recommended.
