The hotel, the views, the location overlooking the volcano, the staff were perfect. The hotel is a five minute walk to the center of Fira and were it located in the center it would be a lot busier in the bar. The included breakfast was a great meal to start the day. A very nice assortment of food and more than ample food. Our room had everything we needed and had the nicest character, it was the blue vine room and we couldn't have asked for more. It had an outdoor seating area under a pergola that had vines of grapes covering the pergola. The staff is attentive to every need and arranged all. You need only ask and they were on it. You will not be disappointed staying here!

I would suggest making arrangements with Rigas, the manager, for pick up to the hotel as you will have trouble finding the place and you need help from the staff to bring your luggage down the path from the road if you have more than 2 pieces or its heavy. The entrance to the hotel is on the path connecting Fira and Firostefani about a 3 minute walk from where the car drops you off.

Room Tip: Ask for the Blue Vine Room.

We just returned from a month-long trip through Turkey and the Greek Islands where Lava Suites was one of the highlights of our trip. Of course, the views are terrific, but if you have been to Santorini before, you know that they are great everywhere. What set LS apart was the luxury level of service. The care, the breakfasts and the general service was as fine as the very best hotels. Our suite was a gigantic cave with 2 bedrooms with tunnels for hallways. The amenities and paint could use a little touching up, but for the price, this is $1000 a day service for a fraction of the price. We have stayed art much fancier (pricier) places, but never enjoyed ourselves more.

Room Tip: Use their tips for dining and experiences. They know what they are doing. Do NOT skip breakfast!

One of the best places I've ever stayed. The location, right on the cliff of the Santorini Caledera is breathtaking. The rooms are amazing and unusual and huge. It's a very small, fancy place. The service is super accommodating and friendly. The breakfasts are generous and delicious. I can't say enough how great this was. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Very nice place. Good location. Lovely rooms. Rigas emailed us before we set out to check which boat we were arriving on- thoughtful touches like that make all the difference. When we arrived they carried our luggage all the way from the taxi to the hotel. They had prepared our room very thoughtfully. There were candles burning and relaxing music playing. It was almost like a spa. You get loads of space for your money- amazing given the density of hotels at the top of the crater. We had a suite with a double bedroom and a lounge. Breakfast is served on the rooftop- excellent customer service that wouldn't be out of place at a top end restaurant. Views from the rooftop are breathtaking, as are the sunsets.

As we moved down the narrow pathway towards the magical city of Fira on the hill before us I had a sense of something very special coming, and it did. Lava suites is just that; suites cut into the hillside of lava rock. The public spaces are intimate, sparkling white, and exquisite~the private little sitting area shaded by grape vines outside each of the few suites, the plunge pool, the view of church domes and the Caldera before you, the roof terraces, one for sunning and relaxing and one for dining...each is beautiful. And then the door to the suite is opened and you are in a surprisingly large space with every convenience for a stay as long as you could want. There is a kitchen area, dining table, twin beds, large TV and sound system, the main bedroom beyond and a bathroom literally carved out of the red lava rock.
Breakfast up on the lounge terrace overlooking Fira is one of the great treats here. It is a work of art and arranged as such. Don't forget to ask Yannis for a semi freddo cappuccino to start your meal.
Rigas, the manager/concierge is an angel. He made our stay perfect and has such a lovely demeanor you want to pack him into a corner of your suitcase and take him home. He suggested to us that we try a half day catamaran trip on Dream Catcher, and we loved it - but that is another review.
I think I have never been happier at a hotel. It feels like your own private villa and Rigas' generous spirit is the icing on the cake.

Where to start? Lava Suites was everything we imagined and more. My wife and I stayed here in May 2013. We are 27 and 25 years old. First thing we noticed, the customer service is fantastic. Rigas, the manager, organised transfers for us to and from the hotel with an assistant to collect our bags upon arrival and departure. If you are looking at Fira from the ocean, this hotel is located on the far left side of the town higher up than the rest of the town so the view is the best you can get of Fira. When you stand at the hotel, to your left you have the beautiful expansive white town stretched along the cliff top and in front of you the endless ocean with the Caderra and other small islands sitting serenely.
Rigas and his team really know what visitors want when they come to Santorini and so they provide the ultimate experience. For example, we were given the best table and a free bottle of wine and platter of fruits upon arrival, which was at sunset so the first view of Fira we had was the best scene I have ever experienced in my life. This was a surprise for us compliments of Lava Suites.
The room we stayed in was very relaxing, two levels with a steep staircase connecting them. Top level was bedroom and bottom level was bathroom and lounge area. Very simple but all the more beautiful because of it. To be honest, Santorini is so spectacular we spent most of our time up on the terrace lounge eating good food and drinking good wine looking at the view and not much time in the room at all.
Breakfast at Lava Suites is a huge platter of sweet and savory breads, fruit, cheeses, honey and jams, tea, coffee and meats. After eating breakfast each day, we didnt eat lunch until very late because we were so full. If you have the option of having breakfast at Lava Suites, I recommend doing it.
We knew from researching and asking family and friends that the 2 must do things in Santorini are a day trip and excursion to the volcano, and a trip to Oia for the sunset view. Rigas helped us organize both of these. We booked and paid for our Volcano trip through the Lava Suits and were provided a bus time table to and from Oia. There is plenty to do in Fira and I would recomend staying here instead of in Oia as it is less expensive and more interesting but just as beautiful.
Lava Suites also provides light lunches and meals but not dinner. However, this is no issue because there are several excellent restaurants close by.
We booked well in advance using www.booking.com and paid in full upon booking (no cancellation) to get the discounted rate. You can check out the prices of Lava Suites there, but if you are booking last minute and in peak season (June/July) I would think Lava Suites will be very expensive (but only because it is the best). My recomendation, book in advance. If you are looking to create memories that will last a lifetime and a relaxing and enjoyable experience please stay here and you wont regret it.
