Wonderful food, fantastic atmosphere, lovely owner and ridiculously good value to match. Ignore the review 'a Greek tragedy'...must have been written by a tragic woman because this place is truly awesome. The emphasis is on high quality food and a great dining experience, though you don't have the views of some of the other spectacular Fira sea front places. What you do have is a beautifully run restaurant, with many lovely little surprise touches and a menu that is both simple yet sumptuous. Couldn't believe how cheap is was compared to how good it was. Cannot recommend more highly!!!

“Delicious food and great experience! ”
Reviewed July 26, 2014 via mobile

We just ventured to Salt and Pepper restaurant tonight. It appears that you do need a reservation, but we got very lucky in that we went right when she opened at 19:00 (7 pm) so she had tables open. In fact, we were the first ones there. This would have made us nervous, except for the fact that so many other reviewers spoke so highly about the restaurant. We were not alone for long, though, because word of mouth has gotten around! We were very happy with our experience. It cost is 35€ for the two of us to eat, so this is not bargain basement dining. But you get what you pay for! The owner/hostess was extremely friendly, and brought out free appetizers, just like other reviewers mentioned. She took time to chat with us and told us a story about the wine my husband ordered. Everything was homemade and delicious. We ordered the fresh sea bass, which was a bit pricey, but it was probably caught this morning and well worth it. (We know this because she brought the whole fish out in the pan to show us before they baked it!) We enjoyed every bit of it. We also it ordered the sesame honey chicken and that was very good too. The meal was topped off with delicious little ice cream bites, also on the house. We are confounded by any reviewer on here that did not have such an experience-- this restaurant is hard to beat!

“No atmosphere, staff unwelcoming”
Reviewed July 26, 2014

Walked in, smelled very badly though the place was busy. Before we could say a word the Owner/waitress said "You don't want to eat NOW do you???" The location is right on the main road with zero atmosphere. Didn't eat here. My guess is that the good rating is because the food may be good (though again there was a horrible smell in there when we went in, like vomit) and probably inexpensive. We ran out of there. Not for us.

“Good food - excellent service”
Reviewed July 22, 2014 via mobile

Salt and pepper lies in the center of Fira, just beside the main touristic walking gate. It is somewhat trafice outside, but we choosed to eat outside as we strongly try to avoid Airco condition when we can. It also turned out that the waitress was sick due to air condition, still she aloud us to sit outside and eat, nevertheless she were not suppose to run in and out. The service was excellent, the food very good, and the appertizers superb. I can strongly recommend this place.

My favorite thing about this place was the mom and pop atmosphere. The husband cooked, the wife was the hostess and waitress. They were incredibly hospitable. We loved the sign that said "Slow Food!" as soon as we walked in. My wife had the meatballs, I had the catch of the day, which the owner brought out raw in the pan to show me what the catch of the day was! Best tomato soup I've ever had in my life. We really felt welcomed and at home in this restaurant. This place is worth seeking out. Its a small place, so make reservations.
