1 week into our 2 week hols in Santorini and it feels
Iike we've eaten in every local rustic Greek place on the island already; very nice though they all are. We found this place while exploring Fira and the menu on display outside definitely made me decide it was time for something a bit more cosmopolitan, while the wife could still carry on sampling the local stuff that was on the menu too. Very good food and service with an excellent view. A lot of places overlook the Caldera, but they all have different vantage points; we liked this place best; you can see just about everything in all directions. We were there for two and a half hours and were served desert wine on the house which of curse made us stay even longer. Prices the same as home in England which was ok by us. Its a smart boutique type place too which I thought made a pleasant change from Ye Olde traditional Greek taverna with bits of flotsam hanging from the ceiling. The icing on the cake was its situation at the southern part of town so it's just a short walk from the giant free car park were everyone leaves their hire car. Will definitely go again during our second week; the very friendly waitress gave us the table number to ask for when we make the reservation.

Watching the spectacular sunsets over dinner in Fira is one of the joys of visiting Santorini. Although the sunsets are well worth visiting the capital for alone, we like to have dinner at the same time; so it's important to choose a really good restaurant.
Rastoni, which like most of the restaurants claims to have the best view of the sunset, certainly ticks that box. Whether the view is the best or not we couldn't say but it's in a great position and this undoubtedly adds to the experience.
We've eaten there a few times and went twice on our recent visit and were able to reserve a really good table on both occasions. We had Caprese salad and a very good pasta dish with huge prawns. Rastoni also sells non-Greek wine, which was a blessing for us. Yes, you have to pay for it (nearly 30 Euros for a bottle of Pinot Grigio) but after some of the local stuff we had tried this tasted like nectar! The chocolate souffle and chocolate brownies were also a hit.
Such is the beauty of the sunset it would be easy to get carried away and say the restaurant is great as a result of that; we've also had lunch there a couple of times and can genuinely say that it's consistently very good.
It is, of course, far from cheap so be warned, but given that this is Fira it does represent value for money.

Truth be told; everybody goes to Oia for ''the most amazing sunset'' on the island. However, go here and you'll have and even better view of the sunset. On top of that, amazing food. The deep fried sole fillet is to die for. Would definitely go back.
