“Beautiful church in Fira”

Reviewed October 10, 2017

We may be the first tourists to take pictures of this pretty church. We didn't get inside - mores the pity. The square is right on the edge of the cliff. Amazing photo spots.

There is a church here. Probably the most viewed spot in the Greek Islands. Can be busy. Great place to watch the sunset.

First of all the church is not in Fira its in Firostefani, a short walk around the coast from Fira. I took the bus from Perissa to Fira euro 2.40 each way, at Fira head for the coast , walk past the cable car and stick to the coast until you come to the next village its about a 10 min walk. You can spot the church from a long way, and its easy to recognise it, as its featured on nearly all the guide books of Santorini. If you walking from Fira, walk past the front of the church and after a few hundred yards there is a staircase on the right, head up there and turn right at the top and you come up behind the church where all the iconic photos can be taken. Its is great at sunset but be warned it does get very crowded. My top tip for visiting Fira is to check out on line how many cruise ships are docking on the day, it can range from 1 to 4, and with 2000 guests on each ship , you can easily choose the best days to visit, its simple maths.
