“Charming cave house with breathtaking views”
Reviewed June 16, 2010

We recently stayed in the Nixteri cave house in Filotera Villas and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The cave house was charming and the view just outside our door was nothing short of breathtaking. Nicos and his family were wonderful hosts and went out of their way to ensure that we had everything we needed. We can't say enough good things about this "paradise" and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Friends recommended Filotera as an experience not to be forgotten. Oia, Santorini is beautiful and made even more charming by what Nikolas has to offer. As a couple we had a 'small cave' house which was just ideal. Quite the experience everyone raves about. Hard work to get to the beach below but the Taverna soothes the muscles and helps the breath. Shrimps were delicious.

See the island by quad bike. Really great value.

I just joined Tripadvisor to let everyone know how much of a fabulous time I had in Oia, and at Filotera Villas.

Nikolas was friendly and always willing to help when needed. He makes Filotera Villas that much more special because of his fantastic attitude towards his guests.

We arrived very early (before reception opened) to Filotera but because I'd let Nikolas know in advance, he made sure there was someone there to show us to our rooms.
We stayed in a traditional cave house with 2 bedrooms (called Canava) and this would have been plenty of room for 4 people (although only 2 of us were staying). The view from the room and our terrace was like a postcard. And the little kitchenette was perfect to cook our own breakfasts.

I agree that having a shower was a bit difficult as it was only a hand held shower head. The bathroom tended to get very wet as a result! But this was cleaned (and dried!) every day so didn't pose too much of an issue.

The pool and sun deck were lovely and had an amazing view over the caldera. What a way to relax!

As for location, Oia is not a large town so the fact that it is only about a 5 minute walk from the main part of town is not an issue. It was actually a blessing as I can imagine it would get noisy in the middle of town during the peak tourist months. There are plenty of mini markets nearby to stock up on food and wine as well as bakeries. A great tip if you don't want to spend too much on eating out all the time.
(Having said that the food at the restaurants we went to was delicious!).

So if you're looking for a memorable, yet chilled and relaxing way to see Santorini, I would definitely choose Filotera Villas. You won't forget the experience.

Filotera played a big part in making our honeymoon so wonderful. We stayed the first week of September and we were blown away by the tranquil views from our room , the gracious and warm hospitality and an excellent location in Oia. The owner Nikolas made us feel so welcome and we loved coming back to Filotera after a day of exploring Santorini. He gave us restaurant and trip recommendations, set up a car rental and even treated us with his homemade wine! Since there are only a few rooms at Filotera, there were many times we were able to have the whole pool/sun deck area all to ourselves-- amazing! Of course, im not sure this applicable in July or early August, but it was a real bonus for us. Compared to prices of other hotels in Oia with a pool, this is a really great value. Thank you filotera!!

We decided to book a short trip with a weeks notice and stumbled across Filotera villas. Availablitiy in Oia was limited (within the scope of our budget) but we found the website and asked for availability. Nikolas soon responded offering us options about moving around the caves houses or a studio, which didn't have a Caldera view. We decided to go for a studio to avoid the hassle of moving and at 70euros a night, it was a bargain!

When we arrived Nikolas greeted the taxi (we arrived late) and showed us to our room. This was small and typically Greek but perfect for what we needed. I have to point out that my wife (who is almost OCD about cleaning) had a permanent smile on her face about the level of cleanliness, there was always somebody cleaning!

The main villas are just across the main road and have a small pool, which was great because it was always quiet, almost felt as though it was our personal space. The hotel is ideally situated in the centre of Oia but just far enough from the main square to be a litlle quieter.

Nikolas and his wife Maria were always there to help and offer advice. Infact we loved this place so much, we have already booked for next year in a cave house, can't wait!

Stayed in the Afoura cave house with my husband in July 2009. Blown away completely by the spectacular views. Breakfast will never be the same again. The Filotera Villas are situated in an excellent position, just a short stroll away from the centre of Oia, but far enough away to be not bothered by the madding crowd of sunset seekers. Our cave house was spotlessly clean, as was the pool, jacuzzi and sundeck area. The cave house was well equipped with a large flat screen TV, dvd and cd player, as well as a jacuzzi bath. The pool area was reasonably quiet when we were there, but I am sure it will always be that way since there are not many rooms. A highlight of the holiday was using the jacuzzi at midnight, but be sure to take a towel down with you. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. The only down side that we can think of, is the lack of a full shower, with only a hand held shower over the bath.

My husband stayed in the Megano room for 6 nights and were blown away by the magical view from our room. We were greeted with warmth by Nikolas and he and his daughter Margarita were always there to help if needed. Everything you would imagine a greek island to be! The room itself was perfect, enough room for the both of us with a small kitchen, table/chairs and a TV. The bathroom was clean and well serviced.

The swimming pool was well maintained and lovely and cool. There was nothing better than lying in the pool overlooking the cliffs and the beautiful blue sea - breathtaking!

Filotera is in the heart of Oia with supermarkets very close by and lots of wonderful restaurants and shops. Thira is a short bus trip and the bus stop is a couple of metres away. A taxi ride to the airport will set you back approx 20 Euro and they will collect other people on the way. Did this cut your price?? No, of course not!!

The Greeks were by far the most friendly out of all the European countries we visited this trip and their warmth and hospitality will be fondly remembered. We will definately recommend Filotera to anyone visiting Santorini.
