“BEST HOTEL & VIEWS IN MY LIFE”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2010

It was hard to decide what hotel to stay in Oia but in the end we choose Mystique. AMAZING! We stayed here for 3 nights of our honeymoon and we will never forget this hotel. The interior design of the cave like room along with the views from your own personal balcony is tremendous.

Great location to the town of Oia - 5 minute enjoyable walk.

Amazing breakfast every morning overlooking the caldera - you can order whatever you like off a menu that has everything you would want for breakfast and more!

Hotel mgmt was great, restaurant staff a little slow, but that might just be the culture in Greece.

Hotel and longe area very relazing.

Got a workout everyday walking up and down the huge steps to get to the hotel - but after eating GREAT food in Oia, I didn't mind the steps for a little workout.

Highly recommend experiencing this heaven on earth hotel & location!

We stayed at Mystqiue at the tail end of our Greek Holiday...We were very much looking forward to our stay in Santorini after hearing so much about it...We arrived in Santorini after a very rough crossing from Crete...Although we were all ok, it seemed that a quarter of the boat was throwing up...Anyway, we were met by a van that took us to the hotel...The hotel is located about a 5 minute walk from the start of the Oia pedestrian road....It is quite a busy road but traffic moves slowly so there is nothing to worry about...As many people mentioned, the hotel is located deep down on the side of the Caldera...I never counted the steps but I felt bad for the guys who took our bags down...Be ready to climb up and down if you are staying there...The ladies at reception were very friendly and efficient...The rooms are built into caves and are have all the modern amenities (flat screen TVs, air contioning etc)...Bathrooms are spacious but the tub is a bit weird as it is quite high and a bit tricky to get in and out of...The hotel has a relatively small but nice infinity pool and a terrace where food is served...The food is very good and the staff is very hard woking and friendly...We only left the hotel during the day once to go out on a boat (arranged in the tourist office at the start of the walkway in Oia, not at the hotel).

Here are some things that I thought could be improved:

1) there is no fitness center at the hotel

2) the pool is a bit small (i know the pools are generally small in Santorini but having stopped by a few of the hotels, the Mystique's pool seemed a bit smaller)

3) the staff were very friendly but we did not find the service as polished as we would have expected/encountered in other expensive hotels in France or Italy

4) We ordered a taxi to take us to Thira and the hotel called a young and unhappy eastern european in a small car to take us to Thira...It clearly was not a regular taxi but he charged the same rate...I found the whole thing quite weird.

5) My sister's and brother in law's room room at an air conditioning problem...Instead of dealing with it, they tried to make excuses...In the end they were moved but the hotel should have handled it better.

6) Although the walk to town wasn't a big deal, I would have preferred to have been located off of the main pedestrian road in Oia.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Santorini and thought that Oia was nicer then Thira...Everyone always commented on how beautiful Santorini is and they are all right...It is a very unique place and, I would argue, one of the prettiest places in the Med...The Mystique was a very good hotel although not exactly the 5 star resort I was expecting for these prices. When we come back to Santorini we will go back to the Mystique or consider staying at the Andronis Suites.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor.

We truly appreciate your nice comments for our staff and the hotel. We are very happy you enjoyed the island of Santorini as well, as it is a very special place due to the volcanic origin.

Regarding your concerns shared with us, kindly note the following:

- Being built on the Cliffside of the island, there is not enough space to create all the facilities a big resort would offer. We do offer alternatives to our guests, with 5 suites featuring private gym and complimentary use of the main fitness center at our sister hotel Vedema Resort, also member of the Luxury Collection.
- Regarding the pool, I am afraid the local legislation does not allow major changes and extensions, because it is a matter of weight on the cliff side of the island. It is in the future plans to make an extension with few more suites and addition of a second pool
- The service we provide follows the standards of the Luxury Collection and all our staff is being trained on the company’s culture and the service standards. Please keep in mind we are located on a Cycladic island and not in a City hotel which requires a more “stand up straight” service.
- The island is being served by 32 taxis only. Many times the taxi center is extremely busy and they may give us availability even for one hour after the taxi is needed. In addition, taxi drivers do not do private transfers. They usually transfer 4 people together and they may do stops in the way between the hotel and the destination. This is the reason why we prefer to order a private car from a car rental company which charges the same price of the taxi and offer better service. We will investigate further the matter and address the issue for the specific driver.
- Concerning the air conditioning, we can not locate in our records an issue that was not resolved and all the room moves our system shows in the hotel so far were not connected to an air conditioning issue. We would appreciate it if you could contact us directly to report and discuss any issue there was during your stay with us.
- As you have already noted, the walk to the main pedestrian from the hotel is very short and the traffic is truly slow. Many of the five star properties in Oia are located even farer from the main pedestrian, as this distance contributes to the privacy and the peace at the property.

We would like to thank you one more time for taking the time to share with us your feedback and thoughts and we would be very happy to welcome you again in the future at Mystique to offer you an exceptional stay.

Kindest Regards,

Antonia Veskou

Our stay at Mystique was so comfortable that when it came time to leave I really didn't want to go - I could have stayed another week!

The Staff at the hotel were for the most part exceptional and Antonia is up there with the most genuine and friendly hotel managers I have ever encountered. The views are breathtaking and the whole resort is set up for relaxation and indulgence.

Our Allure suite was beautifully appointed with everything we needed to ensure our comfort. The Jacuzzi was lukewarm, but I had no problem with this, it was nice to jump into after baking in the sun. The A/C was a bit hard to work out - we inquired and was told that it was still set to winter settings which would be remedied - but we still found the room was hot at night opening the windows alleviated this well and on my second last night I found a second A/C switch which worked much better than the one in the bedroom and cooled the whole suite beautifully.

The only slight criticism I have of the hotel is the catering and restaurant staff. The breakfasts were confusing and confused. The menu was extensive but the order of service as a general rule didn't follow neither the order of the menu nor the order in which it was ordered (e.g - eggs arriving before fruit salad, and fruit, yoghurt, eggs and sausages all on separate plates even when requested on the same plate). Also if special requests were made (e.g. firm poached eggs or no kiwi) they were generally not followed. These things were all small - but enough to annoy me slightly. I think there might have been a gap in understanding of what "western" breakfasts are generally like.

On the whole our stay was wonderful this is a great destination for a honeymoon or a couple's getaway. Oia is beautiful and full of tiny boutiques and cafes with views over the caldera.

My husband and I traveled to greece for our honeymoon and spent 6 wonderful nights at the Mystique in Santorini. If you are looking for a romantic location with 24h luxury, this is the place for you!
My husband and I visited Greece for 3 weeks and although all hotels we stayed in were 5*, Mystique was definitly the most luxurious.....The view is absolutely breathtaking and the staff will do anything to make you feel comfortable and special!

i strongly recommend this hotel! you won't regret it!

My wife and I stayed at the Mystique on our honeymoon. We were upgraded to a Spiritual Suite. The room - and the view - was amazing! We had dinner at the restaurant two of the four nights we stayed there and the food and service were excellent. Speaking of service, the staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Our stay here was really the highlight of the honeymoon.

As for the "problems" that some others have identified. Yes, there were a lot of stairs, both down to the hotel and within the hotel. However, if stairs are a problem for you, then Santorini (and Ia specifically) are not for you. Yes, the Mystique is expensive, but not necessarily any more expensive than other five star hotels. We booked through a travel agent and I don't think we paid anywhere near what some have claimed for the rooms. And, again, we were upgraded.

My only real complaint, and I'm really reaching here, is that it is about a five minute walk until you get to the main pedestrian strip in Ia. There are no sidewalks until you get to that pedestrian strip, so you have to dodge a little traffic until you get there. This sounds more problematic than it is. The cars all travel slowly.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we would recommend it to anyone who is traveling to Ia.
