“Stunning Hotel”
Reviewed August 27, 2007

Oia Castle was great. We stayed in the Aqua suite, which was quite expensive, but stunning. We had three balconies to sunbathe on, an amazing view of the sunset direct from a cave pool shared with the next door suite, but best of all was the swimming pool reached through the bathroom, which was gorgeous and a really different feature.

I certainly couldn't afford to stay here for much longer and the breakfast was a bit rubbish particularly given how much you pay and was the same every day (bread rolls, a couple of slices of smoked ham, a few slices of cheese, jam and OJ), but overall excellent.

My husband and I just returned from Aspaki after spending 4 nights in the Romeo & Juliet Suite. We traveled Greece for 11 days but sitting on our balcony overlooking the caldera at Aspaki will be the memory that sticks with me more than any other. Situated perfectly in Oia, quiet, yet 1 minute from all the shops & restaurants, Aspaki is 4 gated private villas which feel like your own oasis.

Nikolai tended to our every need and booked 2 dinner reservations for us. We were also given a cell phone to use during our stay and could call him if we needed anything. Romeo & Juliet is the smallest villa, yet is not small at all and still nicer than any standard hotel room in the States. We picked up groceries one night and cooked in our full kitchen and ate on our balcony. It was total bliss.

Tourists come down the pathway toward Aspaki to photograph the sunset. You'll feel privileged to call this YOUR home for a few days. We overheard one man ask if he could get a room here but Nikolai politely told him it was fully booked. So make your reservations early!

Note: Oia Castle is their other property about 5 minutes away at the point of the island where everyone flocks to watch the sunset. We liked the Aspaki was much more private.

Art Maisons - more specifically Aspaki - was the PERFECT place for us to stay during our short time in Oia. It would be impossible to praise the accomodations or staff enough in this review - but we will certainly try.

For anyone going to Santorini that is more inclined to a quieter stay, avoid Fira and head directly to Oia. While Oia does get a bit crowded during the season (we stayed from 7/9 - 7/12), it is easier to navigate than Fira appeared and the lack of dedicated nightclubs/drinking spots means quieter evenings. Aspaki is located right next to the higher end jewelry stores in the towns as well as the best restaraunt in Oia (1800).

We were met at the bus depot (taxi's can not get you directly to the rooms in Oia) by Blair, who immediately introduced himself and grabbed our luggage (ALL of our luggage) and guided us through the small, quaint streets to our room. We were then met by another employee (Nickolai - a true godsend!) who introduced us to our room. I must mention at this point that we initially reserved "Olympic" at the Castle location (owned by the same person). A couple of month before we departed on our trip, we were contacted and told the owner would be using that room at that time. Therefore, after more searching, we selected "Atmospherico" - and never regretted the change. While staying at the Castle offered the best sunset views, staying at Aspaki gives picture perfect views of the caldera. Upon entering our room, we all ran for our cameras to take pictures of the view. Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!
Actually, staying at the Castle location might have ultimately been worse for us because of the crowds that collect in the area to watch the sunsets. Castle is located at the extreme northern end of the town, while Aspaki is right in the middle. But just because it is in the middle of the length of Oia, the room was located a good 50m from the main drag and was therefore quiet and secluded. Looking out from our large, covered balcony you could swear that no one else was around. It was a completely unobstructed picture perfect view.
The balcony was situated perfectly to catch cooling breezes, see the complete caldera and panoramic views of beautiful Oia hanging off the cliffs.
Besides the balcony (where we spent the majority of our time), the room had a master bedroom/bath (with a small private balcony of its own), a sitting room, a kitchen, two loft style bedrooms and another bathroom. The master bath was quite different from what Americans may be used to as there is no shower stall - but it was interesting and did not cause us any problems whatsoever. Even the view from the bathroom window was breathtaking.
The beds were firm and comfortable, the airconditioners quickly cooled the living areas. The kitchen was primarily used for making coffee and drinks, etc but was fully functional and roomy.

When we went out touring, it was a short walk up to the main drag. Again, there were picture views wherever you looked. You come out on the main drag right in front of some high end jewlery stores, the best dessert shop on the island (try the banana eclair selection - it melts in your mouth!!), and 1800 restaraunt (make reservations, the food is pricey but excellent!).

Atmospherico was beautiful, relaxing, quiet, perfectly located and perfectly attended and maintained (they gave us a local cell phone with staff numbers programmed in!!). There is another locked door between the room and the crowds so there is no chance of others wandering into your solitude.

We must also give top honors to Andrea who worked in reception. She treated us like family, spent significant time with us and took us on a tour of the other rooms. She was extremely attentive and very interested in our opinions about the room, website, service, etc. Her smile lit up our day and her special treatment of us made our trip!

Aspaki had other rooms that looked wonderful as well, but I can guarantee we will book Atmospherico again in the future.

In June my husband and I returned to Santorini for our yearly trip to Greece. We again stayed at Art Maison’s Oia Castle (we’ll never stay anywhere else!) and stayed in the Sunset Suite on the top level. The suite is completely gorgeous and is fitted out with exquisite furnishings – see photos attached.

As someone who takes great interest in hotel bathrooms I was in heaven in this room. A softly lit stair-case leads up to a separate and completely private bathroom with an amazing shower which sits in its own room with a view to die for. You can see over the whole village from these windows and no-one knows you’re up there peeking out. The shower doubles as an aromatherapy steam room but unfortunately due to an extreme heat-wave at the time we never considered using it! The bed in Sunset is just heavenly – Dimitris has undoubtedly found the best beds in Greece.

The terrace is nothing short of spectacular. It is huge and has gorgeous views in both the day and the night. We found it hard to drag ourselves away from the terrace – we almost slept out there under the stars. We have now stayed in all of Dimitris’ rooms and they are all so unique and we feel blessed to have experienced them.

My favourite??………..Endless Blue at Aspaki and Sunset at Oia Castle, or maybe Marine at Oia Castle, but I loved Volcano too……….

If you are going to Santorini and truly want something special you need look no further.

A 10 out of 10. And Dimitris, you’re a gem.

We spent nine beautiful days in Oia, on the island of Santorini (much of this review comes from our overall trip review post on the forums page), and we stayed at the incomparable Oia Castle hotel's Sunset Suite, which looked almost impossibly perfect on the website.

Well, it is, nearly completely, as advertised, and was a top-flight place to spend our time after (and sometimes instead of) sightseeing around the island. The Castle is a former single-family abode which has been converted into five total apartments, three of which share a common front door entry.

(The front door is located between our suite and its veranda, and it should be noted that, in our only significant gripe, we didn't realize that that arrangement meant that the guests who were staying in the two suites below us had to walk right past our door and windows to get to their suites. Not a big deal, but it does diminish privacy somewhat. You do need to be aware that unless you close the windows and door, you could be seen at all times by the other guests as they walk to the suites below. We just didn't realize that until it happened! Don't worry, nothing indecent resulted...)

One big positive about the suite which was not mentioned on the website is the suite's efficiency-style kitchen, a separate (though tiny) room which comes complete with a sink, stovetop, refrigerator, and small selection of essentials, ie, plates, utensils and glasses. A complementary bottle of a very good local white wine was in the refrigerator upon our arrival.

The suite was gorgeous, well-appointed, with many modern touches, most of which we never needed, but it was certainly well worth the money. Its location was also ideal, just steps from the main path of Oia, and absolute prime real estate for watching the sun sink below the open ocean. One of the charms of Oia is the nightly gathering of hundreds of tourists to watch the sunsets, and their applause, surrounding our suite on all sides while we sat in utter comfort on our patio, was part of the fun of the place. We definitely felt like lords of our mansion while the other tourists huddled on sidewalks and atop the ancient ruin of the Gouras, or watchtower, above.

The veranda was the big selling point for us, with its spectacular views, and it didn't disappoint. We loved the combination of the canopy overhead and the cushioned bench looking out over the ocean! Neither of us are sunbathers, so we didn't use the lounge chairs too much. Weather permitting, we ate our breakfasts each morning out on that bench, using the round coffee table and taking in the wonderful atmosphere. Another unmentioned addition to the suite is a small jacuzzi tub in the corner of the space. We tried it twice, but were unable to get hot water out of it, even after getting advice from Dimitris. It either wasn't working, or we're just slow. Nice idea, though, and in hotter weather we'd have loved it even without the hot water.

Literally the only down-side to the veranda, similar to the point I made above about the suite itself, was that it isn't completely private, as we'd assumed. Anyone walking to or exiting the downstairs suites must walk past you in full view as with the rooms, and twice people from downstairs wandered straight out in front of us onto our veranda while we were sitting there in our comfy Art Maisons bathrobes. For some, obviously, this wouldn't be a big deal, but we did find it startling. Either the couples who did this didn't realize that that wasn't a common area (though Dimitris says he tells everyone that clearly), or they were just taken in by the beauty of their surroundings and forgot themselves. I believe Dimitris/Art Maisons should mention on their website that the Sunset suite veranda is semi-private, not fully private. Maybe I'm being a neurotic American used to my private spaces, but it did bother us somewhat.

As for the suite itself, the bed was super-comfortable (although we were generally so tired after each day I doubt a sheet of metal would've failed to meet our approval), and we loved the alcove-style architecture of the bedroom itself. Some light sleepers might notice that you can hear the footsteps of the tourists on the stairs to the Gouras above, but it never bothered us.

Another unexpected feature of the suite was the flat-screen TV with DVD player, complete with stacks of music CDs! Although we never once watched TV, we did play around with the music, mostly European techno and soft romantic pop. The Ethernet cable came in handy for fast internet access, as we'd brought our laptop, and although there was a Wi-Fi network in use by Art Maisons, it was not available for guests' use. (That might be a bit of constructive criticism, that they could make Wi-Fi available, and those of us who might obsessively take our laptops to bed can be appeased!)

We also quite enjoyed the shower, which doubles as a steamroom, and includes an aromatherapy system! It has two windows that look out on that incomparable view, and although we were wimps when it came to the temperature (we never made it up to its optimal setting, chickening out each time), we found the steam function to be a relaxing way to pass the time. And we both said we wished we could take the shower fixture home with us! Its lower spray jets and removable head are miles better than what we've come home to, sadly!

As I mentioned before, we appreciated the daily continental breakfast, which consisted of two kinds of fresh rolls, wheat toast crisps, deli-style ham and swiss cheese, butter and jam, packages of Laughing Cow cheese, a pound cake with chocolate chips, and a thermos of orange juice. Though welcome and tasty, we felt that after nine days a little variety would've been nice. It didn't need to be more elaborate, just maybe some different flavors along the same theme.

Funny side note. Our initial inspiration for going to Oia was from watching the movie Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. So imagine our surprise when we rounded a corner one day to find it blocked off by a Hollywood film crew, shooting Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2! The film crew did its best, but they're simply too big and unwieldy an operation to avoid inconveniencing everyone for a block in all directions, and some of the assistants used to enforce sidewalk closures were far from polite. Ironic, to go all the way to Greece and enjoy the finest Greek hospitality, only to run into a rude New Yorker telling you the street's closed. Ah, well.

In short, though it's been said before on TripAdvisor, the website definitely does this accomodation justice. Truly beautiful, and well worth every single penny.

We just recently came back from staying at Aspaki’s Endless Blue in Oia, and I must say that it was the most amazing experience ever and totally worth the accommodation price which, we thought, was very reasonable for what it had to offer.

Whatever image you see on the website is actually how it is in real, if not even better. Besides the astonishing and tranquil views (see pix), Aspaki’s Endless Blue was comfortable, well equipped and very well located: a very short walk to a nearby mini-market (so that you can cook your own meals) as well as to many charming stores and restaurants (if you decided to shop and eat out).

We especially loved the balcony and the outdoor Jacuzzi, and of course the breathtaking views of the ocean and of the village (both during day and night time). The staff there was very nice and we had a housekeeper attending to our every day needs. Additionally, it was great that Aspaki provided us with a cellular phone so we could contact the reception with whatever questions we had and wherever we were.

If you decide to visit Oia, this is really THE place to stay. I highly recommend Aspaki’s Endless Blue to any couple who is looking for an extraordinary experience… You cannot possibly experience Santorini without experiencing Aspaki’s Endless Blue.

Note: we were in Mykonos and ran into a postcard that had Aspaki as the focus of the postcard.
