“Gorgeous Oia hotel, perfect escape.”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We just returned from our trip to Greece and our stay in Oia was one of the favorites. I have been to Santorini 5 times and have stayed all over the island. The hotel has a perfect location overlooking Ammoudi harbor, perfect spot for the famous sunsets, and beautiful surroundings.
The cave rooms are a perfect representation of true traditional houses in Santorini (I have stayed in many of this style). Though the hotel strives to give you the authentic 'traditional' feel, there are a few upgrades I feel should be made when you consider the nightly expensive cost for the hotel. The mattresses and pillows are very hard, and the pillows lumpy with the imprint of other people's heads in the pillow. The shower head was cracked and spraying everywhere soaking anything in the bathroom. Also the lounge chairs by the pool are old and pretty uncomfortable.
Other than those slight complaints the rest of the hotel stay was perfect. Definitely where you want to stay if you want a quiet - not to be bothered, romantic stay. The staff was very helpful and kind. Breakfast was decent, but you're truly paying for that perfect view.

Room Tip: Room 103 has a perfect little balcony to take your breakfast to and enjoy some quiet time.

There have been some places we have been to in the world but had never realised that 4 hours away by plane we would come across this wonderful gem!
All the positive things that people are saying could never actually prepare you from the bliss you will find in this perfect place!
Thank you to everyone and everything to do with Esperas for 8 days of sheer bliss.
We will be back!

Room Tip: Room 118 was the furthest room down the steps and to us was perfect, there again all rooms would be!

We only had three nights in this fabulous spot but found it everything we had hoped for and more. The setting is amazing, perfect for those sunsets
and the staff and facilities were excellent. I would thoroughly recommend it, especially for a romantic stay.

This is one of those reviews that you are tempted not to post in case hordes of others ruin the place... which is absolutely the best I am ever likely to get to.
100 yards away from the crowded lanes of pretty Oia, there are two windmills. - it might as well be 100 miles, because nothing intrudes on the peaceful beauty of the Esperas, hidden down the cliff below by narrow steps. Far below in the caldera, the ships and boats ply their trade, and patient well-kempt mules queue to take the tourists up the donkey-path to town. At sunset lesser mortals crowd the Oia clifftop to view the shades of mauve and pink as another evening begins; but you need never leave your own balcony, or that of the swimming-pool/cafe.
But the best thing is not the wonderful bright and airy cave-rooms, but the impeccable management: from the lovely Vicki, the breakfast-lady who provides unlimited coffee and peach juice and anything else from crystalised strawberries to cheese pies from the all-morning breakfast, through the hatch into the swimming pool, or to the breakfast-cave, or the sunloungers, or caves, or tables, or terraces around it, or your room, just as you please; to the cheerful maids and porters, who keep everything spotless with continuous roomservice; the omniscient Stephanie and Hassna, always at the reception desk every hour that God sends; with the occasional presence of the presiding genius George, the son-in law of the doctor who had the inspiration to build this place as his summerhouse; everybody seems genuinely happy to help with anything they can do or the island can offer. (That includes the astonishing prowess of the bellboys in hoiking your luggage from the village carpark to your cave-room, and back: do not dream at trying those steps yourself!)
This is real luxury, not mere 5star chainhotel tat.
Bliss.

Room Tip: Just ask Stephanie or Hassna! Every cave is different, and some are more secluded or have wider view...

Esperas is the perfect spot for enjoying the very best of Santorini without the crowds. The setting is wonderful, with terraces and balconies offers guests a peaceful and unique view of the famous sunset that hundreds of people travel and crowd the streets of Oia to see. The accomodation is excellent with clean traditional houses, each with their own balcony/terrace with views over the sea. The communal areas are equally impressive with large sun terraces and a dining area set around a beautiful pool.

The Breakfast buffet is plentiful and really good quality. However, the thing that really makes Esperas stand out is the staff who couldn't be more helpful and accomodating whether it's booking tours, confirming flights, reserving restaurants or giving recommendations.

My cousin told me about Esperas as she had been there 10 years ago and just loved it. Well I have to say things haven't changed. It was magical. I don't always get the hotels right when booking our holidays but this time as soon as we arrived my husband said it was the best place he's ever been... and he travels for a living!! The view is just, out of this world, gorgeous. It's close to everything. We rented a bike for a couple of days and enjoyed touring the island and nearby beaches.

Our room had a jacuzzi with lounge chairs on one terrace and table and chairs on the other. Kitchenette was ideal. Ice tray in the freezer helped with the drinks in the evening. Sleeping area could be as dark as you like, which is great if you fancy a lie-in. Yvonne (who's been there for 15 years!!) is just sooooo nice and, obviously, very helpful... The best part of that is she is sincere. She's just a really nice, lovely, helpful lady. The atmosphere around the pool was really interesting because it's small enough so that you can get to know people if you want but also you didn't feel odd keeping to yourselves and canoodling!

If I was to make any suggestion it would be to say that having a cocktail bar would be a nice touch. They did have a punch of some kind that was very nice and were willing to make anything with the ingredients that they had available... but still.

We will definitely be back to Esperas. It was just... wonderful. Thank you for the experience.

10 years ago we celebrated our 10 year anniversary at Esperas. We never forgot and we decided that our 20 year anniversary should go to the same place. Because we enjoyed it so much the first time, and we were hoping that it would be the same this time. And it was...and even much better. The service level from long before we booked the trip, that you remembered us from 10 years ago, the notification up front for taxi's, pick up/delivery, reception at the hotel. The girls and guys working there - always smiling and meaning it. The fact that you had started to serve lovely small dishes that we could enjoy from lunch till night time was perfect. Enjoying the breakfast with the breathtaking view. Enjoying the sunset from our private balcony while all the others had to stand in line up the hill. We'll be back!

Room Tip: For us no. 115 was a good choice. But also no. 113 which is smaller (from 10 years ago) - but ask be...
