It is a nice sunset seen but nothing special. You can see similar sunset scenes in other worldwide coastal locations.
However the nice thing about it is that during sunset people from all nationalities will gather in Oia streets watching the sunset which is kinda fun.

Thank dsader

We recently stayed in Oia for 7 nights and I don't get the fascination with the sunset, I have seen better sunsets in Manchester! People would turn up around 3 hours before sunset and queue all along the high street of Oia, sitting on a wall in 30 degree heat, not even being willing to pay for a drink in one of the lovely bars where they could sit and relax whilst enjoying the sunset, and then when the sunsets they use flash photography (?) and clap!
We walked down to Amoudi Bay, below Oia and had far better perspectives of the sunset with beautiful boats in silhouette against the sun. For all the tourists who come off the cruise ships to watch the sunset - you need to get out more!

Went to Oia specifically to watch the sunset. Got there about 6pm and had a good walk around. Wonderful scenery, lots of interesting shops and wonderful photo opportunities. Quite breath taking, you cant really describe how magnificent the place is. We found a great spot to watch the sun go down but we did get there about an hour earlier. It really does get crowded and people seem to climb on anything to get a view with absolutely no regard of the property rites of the residents. Amazing sunset but a slog getting out as thousands get funnelled into the small alleyways. We didn't really have anywhere near long enough to explore and if we returned to Santorini we would stay in Oia to get to know it better.

drove an ATV from fira to oia (don't even try to walk - it's a tough one). got there fairly early, around 4pm-ish and it wasn't packed at all. as the day passed got progressively more crowded. be careful of very aggressive tourists during sunset time invading personal space.

Sunset in Oia is probably the best in the world, and Oia is one of the most amazing and well preserved towns i have been to. Capri feels like a cheap industrial area compared to it.
