I could not asked for a more beautiful spot to spend our last few days on this spectacular island. We were greeted by the lovely Anastasia by the parking lot as our driver pulled in.
As she led us to the entrance of Captain John's, we were captivated by a little boat propped on the roof of this 4 room hotel overlooking the breath-taking view of the caldera.
It sure does take your breath away.
The hotel has 3 rooms on one level next to each other with a communal jacuzzi on the far right of the property. Each has their own sunlounge(s), table and chairs on a common balcony. Above, is the fourth room with its own jacuzzi as well as the office/reception, all with a panoramic view of the caldera.
Naturally, the sunset was amazing, even more so in the jacuzzi with a glass of wine in your hand.
We had the middle room of the 3 and it was a generous size. Anastasia had water and juice in the fridge for us as well as coffee, pastries and crisp bread, a very thoughtful touch.
I found the pillows a bit flat during my sleep that night so i used the cushions from the sofa. The next day when we returned from our walk, Anastasia had made the bed with two extra pillows without me uttering a word. That was so incredibly observant and definitely earned brownie points from me. The room was always very clean and tidy and it was mopped everyday.
Two minutes away is the closest supermarket where you'll find you're daily supplies.
An easy fifteen minutes walk away is the beautiful town of Oia.
Captain John's is self contained and has a portable 2 top burner, pots and pans, crockery and a drip coffee machine. It is perfectly located in a lovely and quiet spot. I would highly recommend this adorable place if you're after a view of the caldera and nightly sunset. Amazing!

Room Tip: The room at reception level has no neighbouring rooms and has its own jacuzzi hence more private.

We had a wonderful stay at Captain Johns! First of all, the view is simply unbeatable. Just on the edge of Oía, you really get an amazing perspective of the entire village. Pictured do not do it justice!

The location is so peaceful and probably as private as it gets in Oia, at about a 15 minute walk to the main comercial area.

The room is very comfortable and immaculately clean. They don't offer breakfast but were kind enough to include milk, water, toast and jams in the room.

This was a wonderful find and we look forward to coming back!

Let's face it, one of your major goals in Santorini is to see the sunset right? Well at Captain John you can see it right from your balcony, without having to battle the crowds in town. It's due to the fact it's at the start of Oia and up a small hill slightly. In addition to the sunset bonus, the rooms are also just beautiful. Nice bed, nice bathroom. It is about a 10 minute walk into the main part of town, but along a clear path.
It is a very small hotel and staff aren't around 24/7, so breakfast is fruit and dried toast, but there is also a supermarket about two minutes away where you can go and buy all the greek yoghurt you desire.
If you are after a pool to laze by this isn't really your place, though there are three spas on the balconies you can certainly take a dip in to cool off, but if you are after a beautiful base to explore Oia with that bonus sunset view, then this is perfect.
Plus also a shout out to Christina, the host, who messaged us a few days before we arrived to say she wouldn't be around as she had just given birth (!) but still had organised our pick up and sunset cruise. Amazing service. Would definitely stay again if we had the chance.

Location was good, situated at edge of Oia which means you can avoid the chaos caused by the coach parties from the cruise ships. Good view of the legendary Santorini sunset from the balcony. Short walk to Oia centre , mainly along a footpath apart from a 200m section. Mini supermarket close by.

On the negative side, kitchenette should have been better equipped considering the price charged. You are paying for location, location, location.....and not luxury amenities.

My mother and I stayed at Captain John's for 4 nights in mid September as part of a mother/daughter trip and both of us would highly recommend staying here.
Oia itself is one of the most beautiful places I've visited...perched up on a cliff, looking down at blue water and white houses, you really do feel like you're in Heaven. I would absolutely return to the town again.
Captain John's was a perfect set up for us....on the edge of town, a self contained apartment with separate rooms and a view of the sunset, it was exactly what we were looking for. The location meant it was quiet and peaceful and with a market about 5 minutes away, we could easily buy whatever we needed to enjoy breakfast on our balcony in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening.
The apartment was clean and functional and while it isn't your normal fancy hotel, it's comfortable and homely. We both felt very settled there very quickly. Christina helped us check in and showed us to our room...she was absolutely lovely and made the stay even better with her friendliness and helpfulness in suggesting where to go in Oia. She suggested that we do the 9k hike between Oia and Fira if we wanted to stretch out legs and we're very glad we did. The views are spectacular and the trail started close to the hotel. The plunge pool on our balcony was a welcome way to cool off when we got back!
Overall, a lovely place to stay...my mother is already talking about going back!
