“Prompt and honest”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

Based on TripAdvisor reviews, I booked a one-way trip (Fira -> Oia's Amoudi Bay) for a party of 6 with Captain Stathis on the Anemos over email, for a 20 EU deposit paid via PayPal (total price quoted as 120 EU for up to 10 passengers). Captain Stathis responded promptly to questions, and suggested stopping for a swim in the hot springs or a secluded bay along the way (no sand beaches available en-route).

I checked in the night before the trip via email. The morning of, his wife Annie sent a very polite and apologetic email telling me that Stathis had called from the port with news that it was too windy to safely make the passage, and that he'd meet us at Fira docks to help with alternative plans and refund the 20 EU deposit. Captain Stathis found us as we disembarked the tender from our cruise ship. The water was incredibly choppy, and the ride over in the large tender had been rough. He advised against taking a water route on the Anemos, saw us to the funicular (also advising against the donkeys), suggesting a taxi or bus from the top, and refunded my deposit in cash. It was clear that Captain Stathis knew the local waters. He showed integrity by canceling a lucrative appointment with some strangers coming off of a cruise ship, rather than having my family risk an unpleasant experience -- and expense -- on a vacation that we'd all been looking forward to.

“Anemos Santorini Sea Trips with Capt. Stathis”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

We had a great day with Capt. Stathis. Our cruise ship tenderd into Fira where we met Stathis. He took us aboard the Anemos and headed out avoiding all the crowds trying to make their way up to Fira. Stathis took us to Ammoudi harbor where he had arranged for a mini bus to transport our group of 10 up to the beautiful village of OIA. After several hours in town, we returned to the boat where Statis took us to the Island of Therasia for Greek lunch sea-side. After lunch, it was back to the caldera to swim in the waters heated by the volcano. Stathis showed us a wonderful day in Santorini.

“No lava spewing volcano”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

There are a lot of unmet expectations from this tour, due to hyped descriptions (maybe intentionally) by tour operators and online literature. Here are the facts:
You are picked from the bus stop near your hotel and taken to the port. Here, you will be taken by a pirate ship-like boat to a volcanic island. You will be asked to buy atleast 1.5 litres of water else face dehydration. Best to bring 1 litre of water in your bag to the trip.
You will pay 2 euros per person for a trek to the top of the hill (not included in the package). After a 30-40 min trek (very mild slope and walking on pebbles and rocks), you will reach the top. Now, most people expect to see red hot lava spewing out of the tip of a mountain. There is no such thing. The guide will make a 15 min speech in the blistering hot sun (make sure to carry sunscreen, comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes) about WHY you do not see any lava there. After that, it is a 20 min descent back to the boat.
You will be taken to the hot water springs. But the boat will be parked at a distance of 2 swimming pools length. Hence, only experienced swimmers can take a dip in the chilling water to swim across to the springs, where the water suddenly heats up to about 35 degrees Celsius. Also, wear dark swim wear as the springs cause yellowish stains on clothes.
You will then be taken to an island and be asked to have food at one of their prescribed food joints, though we found the other ones of the same quality. You can take a swim in the rocky beaches there as well, though this would very much be possible even without booking this tour, but hiring a bike and driving to one of the many beaches around Santorini.
Optionally, you can be dropped off at Oia for the sunset. But it is less accessible from the port than the roads, as you will either have to climb steps to the top of the hilly island, or get on top of a donkey.
And in the end, you will be put on to a bus and dropped to your hotel. But be careful to get on the right bus. Our driver was obnoxiously rude and discourteous, with no interest in helping tourists.

“Great way to spend a day”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

This was a brilliant way to see the Caldera and islands. We had a transfer from just outside our hotel to Amoudi Harbour and then the boat went to Fira, to pick up more passengers, so we had a great view of the sides of the Caldera, before visting the volcanic island, which was well worth while and the guide was brilliant. From there to the hot springs, although we didn't fancy jumping off the boat to swim, and then to Thirassia for a stroll and an ice-cream before sailing back to Oia. Excellent value for money and a very pleasant way to spend 5 or 6 hours.
