“To dine with a view”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

We had lunch at this wonderful little place, and as others write the view is outstanding. I will return for sunset next time, as this would be the ultimate. Food was very good. Our server was very prompt and gave us everything we needed! I would put this place on your list of restaurants for sure while in Oia! Great Place.

“Best Place to Watch the Sunset”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

We went to watch the sunset near the castle the first night we were in Oia and had read that Kastro was a great place to watch it from, but of course it was full. So we made a reservation for the following night, and man, it was worth the wait. Its the best seat in the house to watch 'the best sunset in the world.' The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We tried the stuffed olives and were impressed. We also had the spearmint meatballs, pesto beef pasta, and grilled lamb and all were delicious. The price was a bit higher than other places we'd eaten in Oia but with the view and the service it was definitely worth it.

“Loved it!”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

Yes, it is expensive for Greece, even in Santorini. Oia is obviously the posh town of the island. But the view IS great (although often blocked by people taking pictures) and the food IS good, greek with an innovating touch. Try the stuffed olives... We had a lemony lamb filet that melted in the mouth. The only weird thing is there was no fish on the menu.
My advice is to book a table for an hour before the sunset on a "cloudy" day. And make plenty of time to get there: it is located at the very end of the main pedestrian street and hundreds of people gather in the vicinity to watch the sun go down, blocking the way to the restaurant. It took us half an hour to get there and we only just made it in time.

“Eat while the sun sets”
Reviewed September 10, 2012 via mobile

This restaurant has just about the best position in town for watching the sun go down. Thus it's very popular and we were lucky to get the last table. We had the set meal for two at €72 and it was worth every penny. Olive paste and fresh warm bread, roasted vegetables, Greek salad with tzatziki, beautiful lamb or beef with fresh vegetables, walnut cake and coffee - all very generous portions and served with charm and humour. The house red was stunning so we just had to have two bottles (between four I hasten to add). A free glass of vin santo rounded off a very pleasant evening.

“Amazing, a must-do!”
Reviewed September 5, 2012 via mobile

We came to kastro based on the recommendation from our hotel, they booked us a table in advance. We had other names from tripadvisor but our front desk person said nothing beats kastro, and boy was she right!!

We got great seats and a fantastic view - make sure to reserve ahead. It's not that hard to find if you know what you're looking for - it's to the right if the old castle where everyone goes to see the sunset and the restaurant is painted orange, a stark contrast to the white everywhere. Also, very helpful friendly ppl helped us out along the way with directions.

Really delicious food, best meal in 5 days in Greece. Eggplant with feta and tomato sauce is amazing as are main dishes and the coffee/dessert. Great service, super friendly and helpful and did not rush us. They let us digest our food before offering coffee and dessert where some restaurants try to push you out to seat the next group. So helpful, they even gave us recos for restaurants in Athens for our way back.

Overall a great experience, will definitely come back.
