Since the early 1990s, we are visiting Santorini every summer from NYC. Needless to say we have a short list of our favorite hotels, restaurants and bars that we hang out every year. Skala has been on top of our list all these years, offering:
- Best view of the caldera, from all other Oia restaurants.
- Delicious, traditional, home-made cuisine.
- Reasonable prices.
- Relaxing, no-pressure environment.
Given its location Skala could have been just another one of the pricey/touristy (and pretentious...) restaurants on this beautiful island - instead, it's consistently the best value restaurant in Oia. Has a lot to do with Stavros Sigalas, Skala's owner for almost 30 years, a genuinely nice guy who enjoys what he does.
