“Thanks for your Smile”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2009

We went to Santorini in May with our 2 kids (ages 6 and 4) and another couple with children.
The hotel is clean and tranquil. The pool has great views as do the balconies. One of the unique aspects of this hotel is that you can see the ocean from both sides of the hotel. You do not have to walk down to the old castle where the evening crowd gathers; instead, you can peacefully view the sunset from the front of the hotel. The hotel rooms come with a fridge and a kitchenette. The bathroom is small and well ancient but practical. The beds are hard but you get used to them. Laundry service is also available. Breakfast is included in your rate. We fell in love with the traditional yogurt & honey breakfast. They also give you cold cuts of meat, cheese, bread, juice, tea/coffee.
The Atlantida Villas is probably a 3 star hotel at best; nevertheless, what it lacks in luxury is made up by the service of Georgos and his staff. Georgos went out of his way to make sure our stay in Santorini was pleasant. He even helped us arrange our tours. (I recommend Drosnos for your tours).
Initially we were skeptical about staying at Atlantida especially since there are "experts" in the forum who tell you to stay away from the hotel. Safety is not a concern (we went with small children), I highly recommend this place.
The hotel is located off the beaten path. It is about a 15-20 minute walk to central Oia where all the restaurants are located. The grocery store is about a 5-10 minute walk down the main road. There are 2 restaurants close by: Santorini Mou (across the street) and Finikia (5 minute walk up the street). The food at Finikia is inexpensive and good. The food as Santorini Mou is good but the atmosphere is even better. This is the restaurant owned by the famous Mihalis. Celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston and Green Day have visited this place. Here you will be serenaded by Mihalis who's performance will touch your heart (especially after some Ouzo!).
We also ate at Nectar of Ambrosia (famous for being recommended by Giada; it lived up to the recommendation.
Georgos, I thank you for the wonderful stay at the Atlantida Villas.

We stayed here for 2 days at the beginning of June, when we got here we were so stressed and wound up and when we left we were different people. This is a lovely hotel, clean, light, airy rooms, all you could need for a relaxed, rejuvenating few days. Georgos is a delightful man who upon our apology for being 3 hours late due to a flight delay said "no need to worry, just relax now." I got completely hooked on the thick, decedant greek yogurt with honey over the top. I've just bought a huge tub of the stuff now that we're home. This is 10 mintues walk from the centre of oia where all the shops, restaurants and most importantly...quad bike or dune buggy hire are. :) We got here feeling old and tired at (32 and 38) and left remembering what it was like to be young again. We would come back again and again to Georgos and this magical rest stop. We also had the greatest ever margarita pizza at a nearby restaurant. The pool was cool and refreshing. I think we went at the perfect time where the places wasn't crawling with tourists. The view by the way is majestic. Almost beyhond words. The breakfast was simple and refreshing but nice, if you want a sheraton buffet to gorge yourself on then go to the sheraton. THey have done very well for people who are preparing western food (a cuisine they aren't familiar with) for us.These people aren't fat for a reason, they eat good healthy simple food and we found it a delightful change. We can't fault this place and it's people, we miss it desparatly now we're home. I wanted to tell Georgos that we'd come work for him for a month per year in exchange for lodgings and food!!!!!!! :) It was a tempting thought.

This place was by far the low point of our trip to Greece. The rooms were dusty and about as comfortable as a military barracks or a Bosnian prison. There was a pervasive poo smell throughout the complex, and the foam mattresses they tried to pass off as beds in the "loft" area of the unit emitted a pungent musty odor. Little to no thought seemed to have been put into the furnishings or design of the unit: the tiny, often non-functional television was mounted high up on one wall on the far side of the lower part of the room, making it virtually impossible to watch from bed, which was really the only place where one could comfortably sit (despite the 5' high ceiling above the bed, which I would knock my head on every time I stood up); the single chair in the room was covered with a dusty old horse or donkey blanket, probably to cover the ancient urine/vomit-soaked cushion; the "kitchenette" consisted of a ghetto-style rust-covered hotplate and a random assortment of East German flea-market cutlery and plates; the restroom was basically a shower with a toilet in it -- the grotty tiles had probably never been properly cleaned. Outside the room wasn't much better. The breakfast was crap: just some old bread, scoops of yoghurt and a few packets of honey/jam. Jurgos, the creepy proprietor, seemed to have multiple personalities, sometimes being mellow and smooth-talking like a Greek Ricardo Montalban, while at other times being snappy, rude and distracted. The pool had a weird metallic taste and smell, there weren't enough places to sit and the facility probably wouldn't pass health-inspection muster in Chernobyl. Finally, the walk into town was long and dangerous.

That said, the view was nice -- but for 170 euros a night, this was a rip-job extraordinaire (we stayed at beautiful 5 star places in Crete, Athens and Naxos for almost half that price). In fact, if you're going to Greece, I'd suggest just sailing on past Santorini -- to set one's foot upon these shores is to invite a royal screwing.

stayed for3 nights from the 6th june amazing views great position 15mins walk from oia or a 5 euro cab ride if it is to hot .A good size pool area were you can relax and and take in the magnificent caldera views. The rooms have a little kitchen area and great balconies were you can watch the famous santorini sunset .One advantage is that it is directly accessed from the road alot of the other hotels are not on the road and you have to walk done a path an then down many steps so if you have mobility issues then yhis is the place for you

Just returned and spent 3 nights at hotel. Terrific view, great location, clean ,great breakfast, wonderful pool!
Best of all is the owners desire to make your stay enjoyable. We had an 8pm flight out of Santorini they offered to allow us to stay in the room the entire day.. when he got a resevation for that room, they moved us next door and apologized to us for the inconveniece! Never had that happen before! Also, he arranged for a car.
The location is on the edge of Oia..easy and beautiful walk along the edge of the caldera. Oia can be very crowded with tours, so this is an ideal location. You get an entire view of Oia and the cliff houses.
Breakfast was great, rooms very clean, free internet, great pool!
Best of all, theview over the caldera .

Excellent view to caldera, would definitely recommend couples or honeymooners. Nice location 10 minutes walk to Oia, nice sunset view as well. Quiet balcony, remember to request the top most room which has 3-sided balcony. Great Value at 113 euro a night!!.

Everything about the hotel Atlantida Villas was just perfect !
We already knew Santorini quite well and had been disappointed by a few other hotels when some friends recommended us to give a try to Atlantida Villas (Volcanos Villas). While we were preparinf our trip we could hear more and more good comments about this hotel. We're quite perfectionnists in our hotel choices but hearing so many people having nothing else to say than good things convinced us.
And they were right !
Oia is a lovely village, we just love it but all those hotels who are in the village are way to crowded and noisy for us. Atlantida is the perfect deal ! It's about 5 minutes of the village, so not only can you go there whenever you want but you don't have to bear the crowd if you don't want to. We loved to finish our every evening walk in the town by 5 peaceful moments alone before going in our lovely rooms.
When we weren't in a mood to go anywhere but still didn't want to miss the sunset, we could also just go on the terrace of our room and enjoy it there with some candles and the marvelous wine of Santorini (we could easily buy in the small grocery stores located just outside of Oia, about 5 min walk from the hotel) or we could go and sit around the swimming pool where the hotel personnel and the other guests made us feel like a big nice family. It's incredible how much Greek people can be hospitable but I really think this family is the most hospitable I've ever met !
Our room was on the middle level (the hotel has 3) but we didn't need to go any higher to have a perfect view of the Caldera.
We felt so good with those people and ion our nice, clean big room that we could stay days there, without leaving the complex, eating their amazing breakfast and cooking for lunch in our kitchenette, in our room, going out just to enjoy their pool :)
Last but not least, Atlantida Villas was the cheapest hotel we've ever been to in Santorini.
We would really recommend it to anyone wanting to visit the beautiful island of Santorini !

  • Liked — Next to the village and spendid view without the crowd
  • Disliked — We couldn't stay there longer... But we'll come back !
