“Worth a visit”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

We stayed for one night in this Hotel whilst we were travelling to see family in Poitier on the basis of the reviews, which are all accurate. Great communal areas and a very nice welcome. The bedroom was very good, I think they are known as the comfort rooms. Well appointed and very clean, bed nice and comfortable.

We had heard good things about the restaurant and were not disappointed. The food was an extremely high standard, fresh and well presented as well as well priced.

The only negative is that the wine list had no mid price wines, I think 30 euros plus is a little steep for wine, need more in the 15-25 euro range.

We would go back if we are ever travelling this way.

Read trip adviser reviews & booked. Arrived at school collection time & car park was full. However within minutes it emptied and no problem, we had parking right next to the hotel. The hotel is relaxed & charming and our room (number 2) was totally quiet despite central position in the heart of this really lovely ancient town. We walked into town, had a drink in a nearby cafe, and returned to a meal in the restaurant. We had the 29 euro menu- wonderful food from a talented young chef. The wines were on the expensive side with no house wine. Nonetheless we really enjoyed the experience. Breakfast was another highlight, with quality ingredients, totally fresh and even a precision egg boiling machine - 11 euros each, but worth it, a meal in itself. Staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Excellent experience all round.A three star hotel with a five star restaurant.

I understand the chef here has recently been trained at a Michelin-starred establishment and is trying for a star of his own. If this is true he deserves it. This is French provincial dining at its best; precise, innovative and with a strong sense of locality. I have just had a wonderful lunch followed by a nap in a well appointed, airy room in a beautiful building. This is a must visit; it's picturesque little town and a well run small hotel. I want to move here.

Room Tip: Room 23 is in an annex looking out over pretty little park.

This is my favorite restaurant! Freddy Pommier was trained by Jean Pierre Vigato: Apicius, among others. So you 3 star Michelin quality for 29 euros! The restaurant has be recently been renovated, the service professional, the sommelier young and dynamic! It is always interesting to read the other commentary...but just take my word for it!!

This restaurant should not be missed!

We visited this pretty, characterful hotel on a wintry Sunday night, and on arrival we were warmly welcomed into Reception, where a roaring log fire was burning, and helped to carry our bags to the room. The quirky route from Reception involved two brief sorties across courtyards into other buildings, but it turned out to be well worth it despite the cold and drizzle once we saw our room. We stayed in the gorgeous room 21 which is quiet, spacious, spotlessly-clean, beautifully furnished and with a huge, immaculate bathroom. Crisp bedlinen, perfect pillows and a faultless kingsize mattress provided a wonderful nights sleep. Flat-screen TV and wi-fi were both provided.

The hotel sits on a small tree-lined square where there is ample parking, and its pretty location on cobbled streets near the town centre means you are well-placed for meandering around the historic core or popping out for a meal should you decide not to eat in the hotel.

However, if you eat elsewhere, you will be missing out on a fabulous experience: our evening meal in the stylish dining room was a real gourmet's delight. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, and so decided to push the boat out wth our menu selection. The young chef, Freddy Pommier, and his team produced some truly outstanding and delicious food. You can see the kitchen team at work from the bar area on the cctv system while enjoying your apératif - a sure way to whet the appetite. The service was excellent, and the whole evening was one of the most memorable we have ever enjoyed.

Breakfast the next morning was also a delight: a large choice of cereals and granola, yoghourts, fresh fruit salad, three types of fruit juice and bottled water, a choice of salted or unsalted fresh farmhouse butter, bread, croissants, home-made jams, cheeses, hams and eggs, plus your selection of tea or coffee or hot chocolate.

Mortagne-au-Perche is roughly three hours drive from Calais, so a convenient place to stay while travelling north or south, or equally a great base for exploring the surrounding area. Although the cost of our stay at du Tribunal was a little more than we usually pay for overnight acocmmodation, we have to say it was worth every euro and we will return again without hesitation. A real gem, if I'm any judge!

Room Tip: We loved room 21, but would echo other Reviewers concerns about accessibility issues for the less-mo...

We spent three nights in Mortagne-au-Perche at this hotel. The location, on a cobble stoned tree-shaded square is picture perfect. Our room was on the first floor up a curved wooden staircase. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was two steps down, but conveniently there was a night light. We faced the square, but there was no noise to keep us awake. The room was clean and had all the usual amenities. We also spent some time in the lounge downstairs, reading. The staff is friendly and helpful,
and they go out of their way to make you feel at home. The breakfast buffet was complete with everything from fresh fruit, yogurt, cheese and meat, cereal, the option to boil your own fresh egg, coffee and tea. The most outstanding and memorable event at this hotel was the night we reserved dinner at the restaurant. It was the best meal that either of us had had in recent memory. The delicious taste combinations and care taken with the presentation of every dish made this truly a meal to remember. We went on to Paris after our stay in Mortagne and celebrated our anniversary in a highly-recommended Paris restaurant which did not come close to our dining experience at Hotel du Tribunal. We would certainly make a detour on our next trip to enjoy a meal here again.

Arriving at the Hotel in its cobbled, tree shaded square is like stepping into the pages of a fairy tale. Our room was exquisite with a generous sized bathroom with bath and kneeling shower. We were in a very old building looking out onto a courtyard and the old courthouse. Beautiful as everything is, it might be helpful to advise the hotel at the time of booking if you have any mobility difficulties. To reach our room we had to go through a narrow corridor past the dining room into a dining courtyard, then through an old building and across another courtyard into another old building and finally climb a winding staircase. Unfortunately we had a struggle to get our luggage into the room as the first old building from the dining courtyard was being decorated and we had to lift luggage over dust sheets, and squeeze past decorators ladders and paste tables, wet walls and light switches which had had the tops removed and were showing exposed live wires. At night when this paraphenalia was cleared away a cable was run across the passage floor to serve lighting for the dining courtyard and we almost tripped.

Dinner, ah dinner.....A total delight. We had the gourmet menu and believe me I would have been happy to perch on a window ledge if it meant I could have that menu over again. The chef is an apprentice cuisiniere so there were all sorts of unusual cooking methods including foams. It is an experience not to be missed.
