This is a wonderfully quiet location. The Mont lies far in the distance. There are cows across a small road. Postcard perfect from a distance. But then there is the hotel. The room we had (the most expensive by the way) was like a worn-out Holiday Inn. Kids spied spiders immediately in the corners, the carpeting was worn almost through, the room smelled moldy, the florescent lights in the bathroom clicked most of the night, the television was so very small, and, there was absolutely no wifi unless you left the room and went into parts of the buidling near the breakfast lounge. The staff was so very tired. Every request seemed to be an annoyance.

Our travel agent chose this hotel for our visit to Mont St Michel. The Mont is about 15 kilometers away. If you are looking at the hotel as part of a trip to the Mont, I'd strongly recomment you stay at one of the modern hotels that are on the walkway to the Mont. After our stay at the Manor we all looked with deep envy at the folks who after leaving the Mont, simply walked to their well-maintained lodge.

A disappointment.

Room Tip: make sure there really is wifi available in your room.

Amazing views of Mont St Michel from our room and the restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff were all very nice. We did have a toilet that "talked" to us but had a great shower. The bed was also very comfy. If you stay.. try the pork tenderloin and scalloped potatoes (they were divine!) I had to ask the lady waiting on us how they made the scalloped potatoes.. and she said everyone there knows how to make them.. they are sliced potatoes and rich thick Burgundy cream :-)
we had cows in the field next to us.. in the evenings.. they liked to stand by the fence and enjoyed you talking to them :-)
OH... and I am so glad we had our garmin with us.. or we would have had a little trouble finding this place. (traveled a little before this date)

If you want a nice hotel to stay when visitng Mont St-Michel, Le Manoir de la Roche Torin is a good option. Check the pictures on the web site www.manoir-rochetorin.com . Good price, honest breakfast, close to Mont St-Michel, you enjoy the sunset on Mont St-Michel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that you can see Mont St-Michel just openning the window.

I agree with pretty much all that has been said about this place. A challenge to find, but very beautiful sprawling grounds. The ominous dark shape of MSM off in the distance for farm lands in the foreground.

The room was adequate for our one night there. I didn't understand the carpetted bathroom, and shower-head with no curtain.

We dined in town, strolled MSM, and came back around 10p. All doors were locked. We laughed it off for a few minutes until the elderly someone came to let us in.

Yes, breakfast was a bit expensive, but we didn't ask before hand neither.

All in all, it was a nice convenient location far away from the tourists, and we had a good nite sleep...

Room Tip: Speak & understand french.

After a little trouble finding the hotel down a narrow set of roads we were met with a mediocre welcome. Too bad because the place looked beautiful from the outside. Great view of Mount St Michel and beautiful farm land. The room was old and dated. The bathroom had carpet on the floor and no shower curtains. The pillows needed replacement! No english tv station or they never told us about it. Had their breakfast which was over priced and simple. They did not have a lot of food out. They were not very welcoming. It seemed they we just waiting for us to leave. Glad it was only one night!

Having stayed in 6 hotels in 8 days this was the last and very disappointing. I would have preferred to have gone home a day early! The ambience on arrival was poor - once we found someone to talk to. The superior room was a through back to motel styles of the 1970s and 1980s. Decor was drab, bathroom (and separate wc) desperately in need of modernisation and a good clean - the room was like a box with a bed in it.
The staff that we came into contact with were very average and didn't seem interested in their guests at all.
We returned to the hotel before 10 in the evening having eaten elsewhere to find the place in total darkness and locked up. Told to go round the back to get in!
Not an experience I will be repeating.

The hotel itself is just lovely. Very quaint with beautiful grounds, lovely terrace bar and a nice restaurant with countryside views. If you have the right room you can see the Mont in the distance which is nice to have the view without being in the midst of the tourist craze that exists closer to the Mont. The restaurant was good, but I was not as impressed with the salt lamb as I wanted to be.
