This hotel in a1737 Castle includes a riding school and large grounds.
The restaurant has a good Chef.
The staff is friendly and helpful.
Superior rooms are spacious.
There are over 30 horses milling around in the meadowlands.
Beautiful view from the Castle.
Drawbacks include an iffy WiFi and a very awkward shower in the tub.
Attracted by the horses there are flies everywhere.

Very attentive and caring staff ensured an enjoyable four nights' stay in this very comfortable hotel and its spacious grounds. Wonderfully relaxing. We dined in the restaurant every night and would have welcomed a wider choice of main courses - there was an excellent choice of starters and desserts but a limited range of main courses

The location is outstanding. The reception was extremely professional, friendly, helpful and patient. Sitting at the terrace and enjoying the view is a great experience. The walk around the premisses (about 30 min) is very recommendable.
The dinner was OK, but we would expect a better quality in such a location in the food loving country France.

There is a lot to like about the Chateau, its location in the rural countryside is excellent and the view from the Chateau is spectacular.

We stayed in a room on the first floor, overlooking the paddocks and pond. The room and bathroom were large and the bed was comfortable. We had a single bed in our room as well as the double, which would have made the room feel even bigger if the single bed was removed.

The sable is well organised and the riding facilities are immaculate. We went on a couple of amazing trail rides through the grounds during our stay.

Breakfast was nice, a fairly standard French buffet but the produce was above average. The food at dinner was good enough to eat at the Chateau twice, if we stayed 3 nights we would have given it a miss.

As other people have mentioned the service is a little clunky, particularly dinner service. It isn't bad service, in fact the effort put in was 100%, it just seemed like some of the staff were very inexperienced. The booking process was the same, we really didn't even know if our room had been reserved when we arrived.

That said, we would definitely stay again.

We spent a whole week with our three daughters (12, 9, 6) at Chateau d'Ygrande in mid-April. We truly enjoyed the lovely countryside of the northern Auvergne, with its rolling hills and pictoresque little villages, towns as well ad medieval castles and churches. The chateau is situated on top of a hill with phantastic views. The owners live right next door and personally attend to their guests. Their staff is incredibly friendly and helpful - acrosss the board (room service, restaurant, kitchen and of course the horse riding center). We took two riding lessons per day. We trained in one of the several arenas on site or during extensive rides through the countryside. It was truly enjoyable and free of any stress. We can only recommend this place, in particular to families with children, and in general to anybody who wants to enjoy a combination of peaceful nature, personal service, great food and phantastic horse riding.
