“West Coast Nature Reserve”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

To see beautiful flowers you need not drive far, just visite the West Coast Nature Reserve next year during the flower season. Imagen a persian carpet spread out over a kilometer, because that is what I saw when I looked at the flowers in the reserve. Different species formed different carpets and I just sat back stepped on the carpet and allowed it to take me far away from the hussel and bussel of the everyday life. Afterwards we slept over in Langebaan in a beautifull guesthouse with a 180 degree sea view. Had a fantastic breakfast and return home after lunch.

“Picture perfect flowers”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

This national park is a contrast of landscapes, scenery, fauna and flora and wildlife. The flowers during September / October are magnificent. It's an absolute find and I could have spent a lot longer in the reserve just exploring the area. I will definitely visit again.

The only downside is the visitors who think it's a race track and speed along the roads instead of savouring the views.

“Amazing spring flower display less than 2 hours from Cape Town”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

My wife and I visited in early September. An easy 1.5 hour drive north from Cape Town. Drove to the Postberg Section (northern tip of the peninsula on the west side of Langebaan lagoon) which is only open during the spring flower season. Be sure to pay the right fee to access the Postberg Section and keep your receipt from the park entrance, if you don't do it right, you may be turned back by the gatekeeper at the start of the Postberg Section inside the park. The wild flowers here are small daisy-type flowers, not succulents. The landscape is amazing and when clothed in multi-hued blooms, it's sublime. Highly recommended if you time it right to catch the blooms. Ask a local or do some web research on the right time of year and best time of day.

“Flowers were great - Restaurant not so great”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

The West Coast flowers were absolutely beautiful. All this driving does make one quite peckish and so we stopped at the Geelbeck restaurant for lunch. We were lucky to get a table, and order fish and chips for lunch. After 1 hour's wait our Coca Cola and Sprite finally arrived. By 1 and a half hours we were asked to be patient the fish and chips were on its way. By the 2 hour mark, the couple that arrived after us were finishing their meal and still no site of ours. So we left.

If the restaurant cannot accommodate the number of people it can seat, they should remove the tables.

As it is a state run park, I wonder how much income they could make if the restaurant was run by a privately owned individual who has a stake in ensuring happy fed customers.

All in all - where the flowers were nice, the lack of being fed put us off visiting the park again.
