We stayed here for 7 days in May. Location is great but we were very disappointed with the food and service given. The rooms do not have great facilities, bathroom too small and not well cleaned. Staff generally very nice but we had big problems with the internet access. We had beatiful views but thats all.

Room Tip: Don`t ask for room service,

Just got back from a two week stay at Odjo D'Aqua Hotel. We were in room 105 overlooking the sea which was beautiful. The hotel is spotless and staff very friendly. The family who own the hotel are also very pleasant. Thomas in the beach bar can be a little curt but is quite pleasant.

We were on bed & breakfast basis which was very good but the same everyday, although very nice. We did have a meal in the hotel which was nice but nothing special.

As for Santa Maria, there is absolutely nothing to do at all. A local owner, The Sal Beach Bar explained that most restaurants/bars are owned by Italians & Portuguese who go home in the summer for their holidays and come back in October ready for the main season. This is not mentioned in the brochure. Consequently, once you have finished your meal in a restaurant, they bring your bill and start clearing away as if waiting for you to go. You cannot sit and watch the world go by in Santa Maria as there is no world going by.

If you want to go deep sea fishing, book it your first or second day as they are fully booked. Although the boat holds 5 people, they charge for the boat and not per person and therefore, most the boats only have a couple of people on them as they are still getting the 310 euros so they are not bothered about filling the boat.

The Senagalise do harass you but once you say, no thank you, they do tend to leave you alone but everyday you get asked the same question "why you not want to look?"

The is a brothel and the "girls" are constantly strolling up and down the beach looking for prospective clients but the Security Man at Odjo just nods to them and they keep walking. That was the most entertainment that went on!

We ate at Barracuda Restaurant on the beach 3 times but the third time was awful and therefore, did not go bac. Chez Pastit is very quirky and extremely overrated. The meal is average and nothing special. The best Italian is situated just off the main square by opposite Ocean Bar to the right. Excellent meal and atmosphere.

This holiday is extremely relaxing but nothing whatsoever to do throughout the summer months. We would go back to Santa Maria during the winter months just to see if there is more going on but only if we were able to get a bargain break.

The holiday cost a considerable amount of money but was not worth what we spent.

Room Tip: Room 105 & 106 are on the front of the hotel.

Just got back from two weeks at the Odjo d'Agua hotel in Santa Maria, Sal. The hotel was wonderful. Spotlessly clean, well maintained, superb location on a beach with the restaurant partly outside and partly inside but with the waves coming right up to the walls all round - absolutely beautiful. All the staff were cheerful, polite, attentive, helpful but not intrusive - they were all great fun when you started talking to them, most spoke excellent English but a few are learning and appreciated our attempts to chat with them and help them practice. A special mention of Buba on the beach who worked his socks off all day but was unfailingly cheerful and always had a huge smile and hello for us.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis as we wanted to try other restaurants but we ate in a lot as the restaurant had such an excellent selection of foods, superbly cooked. Try the local 'catchupa' on a Saturday night, a local dish similar to a bean stew, delicious, but you won't need a starter or dessert with this! We also tried the Atlantis, Le Prive and the Barracuda which were all very good.
The musician who played in the restaurant at the Odjo d'Agua was brilliant, we were very disappointed that he didn't have a CD we could buy to bring home.
We took Euros and the shops all took them although sometimes you got change in the local currency, you could change money in the hotel, Sterling to Euro or CVs.

Room Tip: We requested an upstairs room, which we got. It overlooked the hotel courtyard, not the sea, but we...

We satyed at the Odjo d'Agua Hotel in Santa Maria, Sal rather than go for an all inclusive holiday and to be honest I think we made the correct decision going by the comments from the people that had chosen to go all inclusive. We had a cracking room that went out to the pool area just beyond that was the beach and the sea. We ate in the hotel on a few nights and the food was of of an excellent standard. All the staff were very friendly and helpfull, we needed to stay in our room for 4 hours after our offical departure and I was very surprised that although they advise of a charge this was waived....be warned though there is not a lot to do on Sol unless you are a wind surfer/kite surfer or plain surfer, but must admit I am glad I have been and if you want to just sit on a beach or by a pool doing nothing for a week or 2 this is the holiday for you enjoy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking out by the pool well worth the extra cost and nice to have the pool that clos...

My Husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks. The hotel was in the best location right on the beach. The hotel was clean rooms were very spacious beds very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful always smiling which is nice to see when your away from home.

The pool area is very quiet and relaxing, the pool was also very clean and has a beautiful view of the beach.

You can change money in the reception area and also have access to the internet all you need to do is buy a voucher from the reception.

We were B&B board a very good selection of fruit and savoury dishes.

We had 2 meals at the hotel which was divine service was very good.

We went onto the private beach a few times which again was relaxing and very peaceful beach bar was good too. Would recommend anyone to stay there definitely would go back.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 421 didn't have a sea view but it was very quiet. Hotel was always quiet

The hotel was lovely and in a beautiful setting right on the beach. It was spotlessly clean and the decor tasteful. The staff were friendly and helpful. You can change money at reception, which is much easier and less hassle than going to the bank. We were on a B&B basis but did have dinner at the hotel restaurant on 2 occasions. The breakfast was excellent with plenty to choose from and the location of the restaurant provided some excellent sea views. A very chilled way to start the day. Our first dinner at the hotel was really good but our second one was appalling so we didn't eat there again after that. We did try a lovely Italian called Gigi's which was just down the road, turn right out of the hotel and it's on the right hand side. Lovely pizza and great menu. We went there twice and service and food were excellent both times. Ollie, our rep at the hotel, also recommended another Italian called Chez Pastis which needs to be booked in advance because it is so popular and also very small. It only has 8 tables and the decor is somewhat 'quirky' but this in no way detracts from the excellent food and atmosphere, and it was certainly an unforgettable dining experience! Needless to say we went there more than once. But, be prepared, nothing on this Island is cheap. Food and drink are similar prices to home, if not more. Also, the minute you step outside the hotel you are hassled constantly by the locals. some would block your path and others would follow you down the road. It was relentless, day and night, and for this reason alone we probably wouldn't go back. It was the only place I've been to where we didn't buy any souvenirs. There is very little to do or see on this Island but if it's a relaxing, laid back beach holiday with guaranteed sunshine you want, then this is the place for you.

Stayed in room 105. Huge room with huge bathroom and huge walk in wardrobe. Big balcony with a fabulous sea view. Think we must have had one of the best rooms in the hotel. The hotel itself was very quirky and full of charm and character. It wrapped itself around the sea and beach and the sound of the sea followed you everywhere. Breakfast was always fresh and tasty but could have been a little more varied. Coffee was good even though from a machine. Staff were friendly and polite, our favourite being Sandra on Reception, as she was always smiling and had time for a conversation. The location of the hotel was perfect as right on the beach and only a minutes walk away from the centre of Santa Maria. Our room was kept spotlessly clean with clean towels every day and fresh sheets every other day even though we never saw the maid. Our only fault was the hot water or lack of it. Even though we had hot water in the sink, we only had one hot shower all week, one warm one and the rest were a little chilly to say the least, but did wake you up. We did visit the other hotels in the area and felt that we had definitely made the right choice.

Room Tip: Room 104 and 105 were spot on with excellent sea views
