Highlight of my year! the Morabeza Valentine buffet is a must! An array of incredible foods, particularly difficult to find here, on Sal, superb decor, great ambiance, live music, romantic for those who like to celebrate Valentine, definitely my favourite night out of the year! Highly recommended!

Never again will I trust a 4* hotel to put you up in the grounds of the hotel. From this holiday forward, I will always feel the need to call ahead of going.
Booked this hotel with room description being, ‘garden terrace view, or sea view’ and we actually got neither. Upon arriving, we were told our ‘apartment’ was outside the front of the hotel, over the car park, across the main road and inside an apartment block. Yes, I kid you not. Be very wary booking here and make sure your call the hotel to check that this doesn’t happen to you.

When I book a 4* hotel, I expect, at the very least, to be able to stay IN the hotel, or at least inside the grounds. Not so with Hotel Morabeza. They must have got popular over the last few years and have purchased a block of apartments across the road, which is over a commercial row of shops (so you are staying in an apartment over a row of shops across the road from the hotel).

We complained immediately to LOVEHOLIDAYS, which is the holiday website we booked our holiday through. Despite an early email, we heard nothing more from them and were stuck there. Miserable start to our holiday. My kids are 5 and 10, this was totally unacceptable.

So if the kids want to use the pool in the hotel, you basically need to take them down the outdoor stairs of your apartment block, across the main road, through the barriers of the hotel car park, over the car park, into the front of the hotel, through it and to the other side. It’s about a 6 minute walk. And I remind you again, this is a FOUR STAR HOTEL. Exactly. Completely unacceptable practice, and especially as we were not warned about this at the time of booking. There’s no honesty policy here. You turn up thinking you’re getting a room in the hotel and you end up across the road in an apartment.

So be warned!

Lovely place oldest hotel on the island and still family owned.
I was told by a guide they looked after their staff so much better than other hotels in the area paying nearly twice the normal amount and really caring.
Great spot right in the beach and the front borders the Main Street.
Very clean and tidy people constantly cleaning even the sun umbrellas.
Three pools lots of padded sun beds no need for sad people to get up early and put towels out.
We upgraded to a suite, two verandas one over looking the pool and one the sea.
Big lounge and bedroom ,great shower and big bath.
Breakfast limited but fine hot choice lots and lots of different cold offerings ,bread cakes fruit you name it.
Being British nice tea and boiling water unlike the hot water coffee machine disappointment.
Beware the sparrows if you leave just an inch not covered when you are not at the table will drink and eat anything they can get at.
Great restaurant in town all a few minutes away.
Never felt unsafe people so friendly, will ask if you want to buy something but say no thank you and will not hassle you.
Thinking about the difference between here and the Caribbean.
People both layer back and friendly.
Felt safer here walking around.
Always breezy hot in the day but need a jacket or light jumper at night but better for sleep.
Only one or two hours time difference than the UK winter only one hour.
Less than six hours flight and lot more choice of airports to fly from.
Water in pool and sea a lot colder.
A real good alternative.
A tip if you have a private transfer leave before all the TUI coaches as it’s a bit bureaucratic getting through the airport and even with out many people in front of us took about 45mins
Hate to think if there were hundreds in front of you.
Make sure you pay the tax to enter Cape Verde before you leave home as it took a couple we met about an hour.

Hotel Morabeza is so cute, its not new its more old school but that adds to the cool element of it personally speaking. Also its not expensive, the price is very fair given everything you get. Service was hit and miss for us, very good at breakfast, but just OK with reception. The pool is kept pristine and is the jewel of the hotel, and of course the beach is beautifil, Cape Verde is a magical once in a lifetime place!

As per previous comments the hotel is a bit tired and basic, but we had a nice week in mid 20’s temperatures. We upgraded to a room around the adults only pool and ate outside the hotel most nights. Sal is a small island with little to do in all honesty, though that suited us perfectly.
