Only recently returned & we are already planning our trip back! From our initial booking, the owners sent us plenty of info for our visit which was gratefully received for our first time to Cape Verde. On arrival our initial impression was just how high quality the resort was without being overbearing – all staff were very helpful, even organising a buggy to get us straight to our door. The apartment was beautiful with everything we needed (with some added extras from the owners to give a touch of home!). Patio doors open to a lovely private garden, hidden just enough from the pool. Perfectly located. We’d decided to opt out of all-inclusive so we could explore the island & it didn’t disappoint. A quick cheap taxi from reception drops off at Santa Maria beach to enjoy a host of restaurants – Palm Beach was our favourite to eat great food with toes in the sand watching the world go by. We were surprised at just how much there was to do so we planned jet-skiing, horse riding on the beach, surfing, fishing & an island tour (booked through the local beach guys) – despite being such a small place there is so much activity available during the day & at night. However due to how beautiful and accessible everything is at the resort, after some exploring we quickly fell in love with the place so upgraded to all-inclusive for the rest of our stay! There are so many great restaurants, would recommend booking early for a specific choice but we had no trouble, even same day on occasion. The main buffet (Spices) has everything, all very fresh & perfect for breakfast. Although ‘our’ pool was our favourite (a little more relaxed & secluded than others) we loved the swim up bar & infinity pool near reception, close to the piano bar which has great live music every night. A couple of minutes stroll straight through the resort you have shops, more lovely restaurants (recommend Atlantis for lunch, delicious), champagne bars & then you hit Gabi beach. The perfect place to relax in chilled surroundings on a stunning beach front; take advantage of a fresh pina colada from the beach bar hut! There is no scrambling for beach sofas or sunbeds, the whole place is so relaxed and well managed by resort staff. Would highly recommend a walk from there around the coast to Santa Maria which take about 1.5hrs but is well worth it. A lovely secluded beach walk with a shack bar on the way for a cold beer & a snack, great place to watch the kite surfing!
Our only disappointment was that we hadn’t booked to stay longer. The whole resort and particularly this apartment really is a hidden gem on a beautiful island and we would highly recommend it for all wanting a sunshine holiday to remember.
Well what can I say! Firstly, when we arrived at Melia Dunas, check in was so easy. Anne who checked us in was just fab, explained everything about about the resort and called for the hotel buggy to take us to the apartment. With the luggage on board, off we went! The best part was when we entered the apartment to see the garden, view of the pool and blue sky. Also the surprise of the welcome pack which was much needed after a long day travelling. We had a brilliant 2 week holiday. Victoria & Lee are a pleasure to deal with and everyone we met was so friendly and always had a smile, especially Edna at Melia Reception. For those who do not fancy going into Santa Maria every night or eating on the resort, we would recommend Farmers on Vila Verde for buying food and drinks during your stay. Joyce was very helpful and the shop reasonably priced. We enjoyed self catering and cooking in the apartment. However, we also had great meals at Atlantis restaurant on Melia Dunas and some of the other restaurants which Victoria recommended we try. Worth knowing there is a security gate by the apartment which is ideal for access into Santa Maria and we found this very useful throughout our stay. The taxi rank is also 2mins walk so again easily accessible. A joy to book with someone who is passionate about helping make the best of your holiday and who is contactable 24/7 unlike most travel companies where you're just a number. We will definitely be back as loved the apartment, Dunas resort and overall culture of the island.
Close to the beach, Bikini Beach Club and Ponta Preta beach.
Some great entertainment in the resort itself. Plenty of bars and restaurants.
The free shuttle service to nearby Santa Maria was really appreciated as there were lots of shops and affordable restaurants there. A visit to the jetty is a must with all it's activity and interesting characters.
Went for a relaxing week away during the busy period before Christmas. For an island with "nothing to do" we weren't able to fit it all in. The apartment that Victoria and Lee provide is above expectations. I know Friends that have stayed in the same hotel and when we came back were jealous. You have your choice of a chilled pool holiday or to get out there and explore. I would happily book again but spend a couple of weeks island hopping beforehand.
A welcomed stay and in my opinion should be highly recommended. (Yes they do have the nicest garden in the complex)
