“Hidden gem”

A bit pricey compared to other restaurants in Santa Maria, but worth every cent! Good service and lovely outdoor dining area.

“Excellent night out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2014

Every night i passed this french restaurant and every time I thought.. it probably looks better then it is.. Until my last night on Sal when some local advised us to go there for dinner. Hidden after walls of stone and a lot of plants you can not really see the whole place from outside. It really looks amazing though. There are little areas where you have some privacy. It also felt really romantic in the garden. Le prive has a normal menu and also a selection of the chef. Because it was so hard to choose we all took something else and did a big tasting! The food was amazing, especially for being on an Island. We had great wine as well and it was a good night of dining.
The price/quality rate is much better then for example at leonardo. You pay a little bit more for meat dishes then for the fish, but its normal since you are on an island.
I would recommend this place to: couples, friends, business and solo travelers. I haven't seen a kids menu so i don't know if this place is suitable for kids..

+ great food, nice atmosphere, hidden treasure, good price/quality
- because they are hidden you walk by and think.. i dont know if this is a good restaurant.. but STOP and go inside! its worth it :-D

“Impeccable French restaurant - wonderful seafood”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2014

In a tiny town like Santa Maria, it was odd to stumble across a French restaurant of genuinely international quality. Form the street, there's nothing to see but a blue door and a sign. Inside, the restaurant is laid out in a large garden and is lit to have a fairytale feel about it. I'm guessing this makes it romantic for couples, but for the single, it's difficult to read your book :) The menu is, unsurprisingly, focussed on local fish - though they do a fine steak tartare if you feel the need. The influences are French and Japanese, with a local twist. A seafood platter was a wonderful assortment of cowries au gratin, prawns, raw and cured fish and a local seaweed. A main course of Ahi Tuna was perfectly cooked with a delicate soy/chilli sauce and a crisp refreshing salad with an oriental dressing. The wine list is short but good, and the local wine (from Fogo) is eminently drinkable. I was so impressed I went back on my second night and had a ceviche of wahoo - perhaps the only disappointing dish - though the fish was lovely, it lacked the tang and spice of a good Peruvian or Mexican ceviche - followed by spaghetti with clams (simple but perfectly done)

This is attentive white-linen service, friendly and never obsequious. There was live Caboverdiano music, which was lovely without ever being obtrusive. Diners ranged from large familys at refectory style tables to couples… I would heartily reccommend it as the finest restaurant I have thus far found on the islands.

“Hidden Treasure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013 via mobile

Absolutely exquisite little place accessed through a hole in a wall. The Bedouin tents and dressed pergolas give a perfect ambiance to the alfresco dining and the food is possibly the best on the island.
