Could not have wished for a better time away. My boyfriend and I went for 10 nights/11 days in January for a bit of winter sunshine! It was wonderful. The staff are very friendly and really good service throughout. Our hotel reps were really helpful and really lovely too. Although the entertainment team/hotel staff didn't talk as much English as other languages, they could still always hold a conversation and understood all of what we said to them. Transfer was quick from the hotel the only downside of the whole holiday would be the flight. It is a long time to be on a plane for, and Thomson put you on quite a small plane for a lengthy journey.
We would definitely recommend going quad biking!!! We went for the 4 hour one and so glad we did. We shared a quad and because we stopped a few times it allowed us to switch driving seats. We also stopped at some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen! We urge you to go there before these places get developed on and before the island is crammed with tourists! There isn't much to do outside the hotel apart from arranged trips with your reps. We wish we had done a few more in the time we spent there.
We had mixed weather but didn't see it rain once. It is a really windy island so when it was windy and grey it was a bit cooler but still lovely to sit outside and read a book in. We also had days where it was windy and sunny and this was perfect, and there were days where it was just sunshine, and no wind and it was BOILING, even for January which is the islands coolest month!
There was always plenty of food choices and the food was the best food we have eaten in an all inclusive hotel before! The beer and the cocktails are very good too!!
The hotels beach is stunning too. We live in the coast of Britain so are used to lovely sandy beaches, but this beach was absolutely gorgeous! Sitting at the balcony of one of the bars, overlooking the sunset and the beach was perfect!
Hotel room was always very clean, and a good size!
Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel or this island to anyone. Just be aware if you are staying at this hotel, Brits are the minority here, so don't expect the hotel to be catered especially for Brits.

After three two-week trips in one year to Boa Vista (once at Iberostar and 2 at Decameron), it stays at this hotel my best holiday experiences ever! Meals are incredibly varied and there is always some unexpected delights that have not been served earlier. After two weeks last year and two weeks this year, there is very little that is left to be experienced at other hotels. Hygiene is very well taken care among staff and guests access to antibacterial liquid. I have never had any stomach trouble even after eating raw vegetables, eggs or other potential infectious food. All staff are very helpful and often provide services to the tasks that are not really their area. Although the majority of the guests are French, I have not as Norwegians no problems with my limited English to communicate with the staff. Number of sunbeds and mattresses are plentiful and you do not rush to reserve them before breakfast and they are cleaned every day. On the beach there are trashcan and stones (to keep the towels in the wind) at each bed. Solid wooden beds have replaced the plastic beds. Safety on the beach is attended by 2-4 lifeguards. No troublesome sellers have access to the beach area. Because the staff is mainly Christian, women is not by being stared on or get negative comments during sunbathing. If anything could be improved it must be more bottled water in the rooms. Only one bottle, whether you are one or two weeks is too bad. A larger selection in the bar menu of beverages and drinks, did not make any damages. Also, it is desirable to have more live music in the evening and the bar getting protected more against the cold wind. However, already in October we plan to come back, even if the travel time is more than 9 hours by plane from Oslo.

Had a great week, food great weather excellent. Only downside is nothing to do outside the complex. Wonderful for a relaxing break. Al a Carte by the beach was great. Room was old but well cleaned and kept Staff were excellent and helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms by beach have a great view

Arrived to clear blue skies and quite a breeze! Only 5 minutes transfer from the airport - ours was the only plane there when we landed!
Checked into the hotel quickly and efficiently with luggage brought to our room. Nice room - two double beds, large shower always with plenty of hot water! Room 111.
We came for rest and relaxation and if that's what you are looking for this is the place for you. The hotel is set on a breathtaking white beach with Atlantic rollers crashing in on the beach. We took a walk along the beach on the first afternoon and there wasn't another soul to be seen! Dramatic! We did the walk every afternoon after lunch, only a handful of people around.
Food was varied and nice with always extra spicy sauces if you wanted a bit extra! Try the piquant sauce on your rice!
The staff were excellent, hard working and polite - well done to them!
The beer was good and the white wine Ok - not really into spirits but there was plenty of choice.
Did the 4x4 Hotspots trip with Carlos as our guide. Really interesting guy who told us all about the island, interesting and informative. Only a couple of tarmaced roads so be prepared to bounce!!
Overall an excellent experience that I would repeat again tomorrow- thanks to all at the Decameron. ....and shhh! keep it quiet!

Room Tip: Take a chance on the Decameron. I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you just want to chill!

Just returned from one weeks holiday at the Royal Decameron. After reading some negative comments was'nt expecting too much, but was pleasantly surprised. When we arrived were given room 105 which was quiet a long walk on cobbled walkways also quiet steep to restaurant, pools and bars, and there was'nt a very nice view from room. We went to the welcome meeting and asked our thomson rep Vickie who was very helpful to see if was possible to move to a more central room, we were given another room the next day room 115 which was very close to all the aminaties. The room was spotless our chambermaid changed our bedding and towels every day. The rooms are basic but loads of storage, two kingsized comfy beds in room. There was plenty of choice of food in the restaurant and snack bar, all of which was tasty something for everyone, if you want full on english food then go to tenerife or blackpool. The staff were all friendly and helpful, although not all could speak english very well but most of us cannot speak french, german, italian , dutch or spanish like they try.The pools were spotless bit cold tho, once you got in was lovely, I loved the music around the pool plus the dancing and the aqua arobics. The evening entertainment was good ,mostly dancing but they were very good. The beach was gorgeous plenty of available sunbeds ,the sea was rough not really suitable for young children, the beach bar was lovely loads of space to relax an have a drink.
Also we had no trouble getting a sunbed around the pool as there were loads, and if you don't want music while your sunbathing there is the quiet pool to relax around so you have no excuse to moan about loud music ( and its not all french music ).
Overall this was a really lovely relaxing holiday one week was not enough, it is chilly of a night so do take a wrap.
This is our third trip to Cape Verde but our first stay at the Royal Decameron and I think it was good value for money. If you have trouble walking be aware there are uneven walkways that are steep in places and steps, there are a few ramps and one lift.
We stayed the last week in March 2014, the weather was partly cloudy but when the sun came out it was boiling, and was glad of the wind, came home with a lovely tan. Will definatley visit there again but will go for two weeks, loved it.
Remember if you want full on English food morning noon and night, staff that can only speak
English and only want to mix with English people then stick to holidaying in the UK.
Boa Vista Cape Verde is a Beautiful unspoilt uncrowded place to visit with happy helpful locals.

Room Tip: We had room 115 which was close to pools and restaurant.

Just back from a fantastic week at the Royal Decamron Boa Vista.
Although the rooms are basic, they are spacious with plenty of storage and a large comfy bed and ours was kept spotless by the maid despite the amount of sand we traipsed in! Only comment I will make is that the shower was a bit black in places around the mastic sealer, but no worse really than mine at home gets. As water is a precious thing in Cape Verde we didn't bother to get our room towels changed as they dry very well overnight, same with the pool/beach towels although it's an option if you're picky.
We had a sea view room (335) on the end of a row, overlooking the quiet area of the beach right away from the main buildings so heard no noise from the bars at night. The main entertainment starts around 9:30 at night in an amphitheatre well away from all the rooms so we didn't hear that either, can't comment further on this as we didn't go to any of the shows.
The food in the main resterant was really good, cooked well with plenty of choice of salads, hot food and deserts. Some other reviews complained about the food but I can't understand why, even my 'meat and 2 veg' husband found pleanty to eat.
We spent most days on the beach as the pool area was noisy with music but mostly from other European guests shouting, kids playing etc but rather than use it as an excuse to moan about, we just avoided it.
The beach is spotless and free of seaweed and litter. There are plenty of sun beds/umbrellas to choose from, the only down side at this time of year is the wind from which there is no escape. Other hotels on the same beach have some windbreaks in place and the Decameron should think about it too.
My only other litle niggle, as a smoker, is the lack of ashtrays around the bars/lounge areas. The public areas are kept spotless by hard working staff but most smokers like me were having to drop ash etc on the floors or in plant pots! Several times I asked at the bar for ashtrays and was given an improvised effort of a plastic cup with some water in!!
Overall we had a really relaxing week, which was perfect for us, but if you want loads to do places to visit and shopping Cape Verde is not for you so don't go then moan about it when you get back!
If you do go, keep an open mind, read about the Islands before hand and remember 4* here is likely to be more 3* there.
The people are warm ,friendly, hardworking and polite and the hotel staff do a great job for poor wages but dont expect tips at every turn like in Egypt wich surprised me.

Room Tip: Rooms 326-335 501-645 have nothing in front of them but beach, but the 600s are near to the Al la ca...

Second time to Cape Verde this time with Thomson Holidays, hotel was registered with them as a four star definitely not 4 star.
Everything was "ok" maybe I was expecting more for a 4 star, room furniture was scratched and tired looking, staff hardly spoke, music around the main pool a bit loud, bottled water charged for, and many of the sun loungers (pool side and beach) were damaged/broken.
My room was the furthest away from everyone else (not really a problem) but I was travelling alone and the patio doors did not lock, had already changed rooms once as the air con wasn't working

I shall still return to Boa Vista but not to this hotel

Room Tip: If travelling alone make sure you are not put at the back of the hotel facing the airport it can see...
