arrived on the 3/10/13 to17/10/13 the thompson flight was not the best no entertainment but that was the worst part of the holiday as for the rest of our stay it was just so laid back and totally relaxing the staff are friendly and the food was of a good standard and always something for the fussy eater like myself, the rooms were of a good standard and towels changed daily, the weather was fantastic and the pool and the beach the same
pedro the manager was a nice guy and willing to talk to you, unlike some hotels I've been to the one thing that struck me was the cleanliness of the whole hotel

Room Tip: most rooms have a seaview but go for the 700's

After a stressful time in the UK Cape Verde is the place to go.
Once we landed we were greeted by Thomson Rep (Wendy) who knew the area well and knew what there was to do. We got to the hotel at midday just in time for lunch, knowing the room wouldnt be ready we checked in and went and had some lunch. Amazing food and the staff in the restaurant work hard for their money 6 days a week for 55 Euros.
Once being taken to the room by i can only assume was the Reception Manager we were impressed a King Size bed overlooking the beach. Room 326. We then explored the site and found the quiet pool however we did find this so quiet that we sat round the main pool.
The entertainers are fantastic and try and communicate with you even though they cannot speak good english. They do activities throughout the day, dancing in the evening and are always happy. They work very hard.
We are rebooking for next year as we have been to many places like this and Dominican Republic and this hotel beats them all for Service, Relaxation and Scenery.

Room Tip: We had room 326 and couldnt fault it overlooking the beach in the quiet area but not to far from main area.

Arrived at this Hotel on 3/10/13-17/10/13
Lets get the bad bit out of the way first THOMSONS FLIGHT 6hrs on a plane with no entertainment not even music, no hot drink with the meal you have previously purchased they say
the reason for these 2 factors is because it is a short haul plane apparently they can't land anything bigger at Boa vista airport what a load of TOSH the tv screens are still on the plane & they will quite happily sell you hot drinks before & after your meal just 2 more ways of saving & making money i presume
Now lets get to the good bit THE HOTEL situated on a lovely sandy beach that stretches for miles be careful of the waves some days they can be quite high but hey it is in the middle of the atlantic after all, thehotel is fairly well situated for sal rei only 10 euro's eachway no matter how many are in the taxi do as we did & share your taxi with others
FOOD-always plenty of choice & hot
DRINKS-the alchohol is of a good quality unlike a lot of All Inclusives also a good variety of soft drinks, tea & coffee available
ROOMS-large bedroom with a very large king size bed + flat screen tv(if you have a usb memory stick put some films on it as it plugs into the side of the tv) most of the channels on the tv are foreign, the bathroom is also of a good size even has a bidet installed, the room we had also had a large living room attached at no extra cost
STAFF-in general very pleasant & polite some could do with a slightly better understanding of english
ENTERTAINMENT-on a whole very good but unfortunately mainly in french possibly because most of the holidaymakers are french but don't let this put you off as most of the entertainment consists of dancing.the entertainment staff around the pool area during the day are very good they don't get in your face to do things, a simple no & they would leave you alone
There are quite a lot of big black beetles around the whole area but i don't think this can be helped on a whole the place is very clean & tidy
Anyone thinking of staying in 1 of the RIU hotels i would think again because believe me the ROYAL DECAMERON will take some beating for the price & anyone staying @ royal decameron i hope you have as good a time as my wife friends & i did

I’m not really sure where to begin with my review of the Royal Decameron hotel so I will start with our arrival.
After being met by Wendy the Thomson rep (who I must say was wonderful, helpful and none of my issues were her fault) we were transferred to the hotel in a matter of minutes. There were ten of us from our flight. The scene that greeted us was not what I expected, When we have stayed All Inclusive in 4 star resorts before we have been met with drinks and cooling towels etc not by shoved bits of paper and pens and a swarm of flies. After paying another 40 euro's for the two of us to stay in the 4 star all inclusive we were waved in the general direction of our room which we eventually found.
(Please see attached photos) On entering our room it at first looked fine, big spacious and the AC worked. The two electrical sockets hanging out of the wall were a bit of a worry with wires hanging out and no faceplate on them. The inch gap beneath the front door which let large beetles and roaches come and go as they pleased was eventually fixed by myself using elastoplast tape.
For a 4 star resort you would have thought that coffee and tea making facilities would be a given but none of that either, 1 bottle of water was complimentary but then you had to pay 2 euro's for every other bottle you wanted.
You can get free bottled water in any famine relief centre in Africa but not the All Inclusive Royal Decameron.
The safe was 2 euro's per night and you might have managed to fit your wallet inside but not much else.
Maybe cleaning the dead bugs from behind the bathroom light fitting may have helped it towards a 4 star feel but that wasn’t done during our 2 week stay either. The ALL INCLUSIVE didn't really include much that you would expect as standard to be honest.
Health and safety isn't something that I think the management understand too well at this resort and on the third I badly twisted my knee when I slipped by the pool (a common occurrence I am told) which meant walking down onto the beach at the North end of the resort was a bit precarious with a dodgy knee as can be seen by the photos of the rubble strewn path.
I could have limped up to the pool and sat around the pool had it not been for the thumping loud music from ten in the morning to 21.30 hours at night. Coupled with the loose tiles and an obnoxiously loud French/Italian activities team one of which meowed like a cat at you and another that made this boooop boooop sound at the top of his voice sounding like some long lost extinct bird of paradise. After three days of this I can assure you the pope would find a use for 50 Cal sniper rifle.
The slippery surface signs were actually there but were used to block your entrance to the lift when it stopped working.
So the beach it was, and a lovely beach too even if you did get sand blasted on occasion but no swimming when we were there as the waves or currents were too strong and the jelly fish were ever present.
The weather was fantastic and the food was OK although none of it really seemed to go together. The Italian themed restaurant was very good and meant you didn't need to experience the bun fight in the main food hall either but it booked up quickly.
The bar staff by the lobby were very good and friendly as were the gardeners etc who worked very hard to keep the gardens immaculate.
Just a shame the management were too busy patrolling the drink stations like SS officers policing the "don’t fill your water bottle from the tap policy" which many people worked around by standing there for 5 minutes filling a small glass and pouring it into the bottles.
Tips for anybody going here who is not French or Italian speaking would be to take citronella candles or burners with you to keep the flies at bay, get up at 06.45 hours every day to change your beach towel at the gym and reserve a sun bed on the beach. Don’t bother reserving one at the pool as the sun bed police will remove your stuff and bag it up leaving it at reception where you have to pay 20 euro's to get it back if you leave it too long.
In general for the four figure price tag this resort is a very big letdown, but the weather is great and most of the staff are quite friendly.

We came here for our honeymoon in May... Little late commenting but new to tripadvisor. Lovely place, food good, staff pleasant, weather fab.. The only down side for us was that it was too quiet which nothing to do.. And trips weren't cheap.. Thompsons did mess up with our trips. But nothing major and was givin a free bottle of bubbly. I would visit again I suppose but I do wish we'd off paid that bit more for somewhere more luxurious... Especially as it was our honeymoon...
