Firstly can i please remind holiday makers going to this RESORT .....it is not a HOTEL !
I heard people complaining because they had no kettle ,tea bags, ironing boards,............LOL

Anyway our second visit to this resort this year,we had been in April for one week and returned last week of September for 11 nights ..Main difference is the Humidity !
If you are afraid of a few flies and mosquitoes(OK a lot of )go in April/May (there are none !)
This resort is the cleanest resort i have been to in my last 20 years of holidays world wide.
I will try not repeat too much on what other travelers have put .
The management team are the most proactive i have ever seen ..not afraid to pick up a brush or help picking plates etc. They are very quick to put things right for you ,example air con required looking at(20 mins later sorted)
Food : chicken, pork, fresh tuna, beef cut off the joint, salads to they come out your ears, soups are great ,....even the fussiest eater would no go hungry here,...
Beach : will rival any in the world ...be warned it can be very dangerous ! the waves break very close to shore so have a strong rip tide..not for kids or weak swimmers. Injury's did occur whilst we was there.. both times.
Drinks : possibly the area they do need to improve ...No Guinness ! whats that all about ?
LOL : ) larger not great but when its hot its tasty.
In a nut shell a very clean resort with the most hard working staff you will ever see You will enjoy yourself if you go with an open mind and realize that this is 5-10 years behind the Carib islands (which is nice) .You will not need a lot of cash with you as not a lot to do.Trip for brits are expensive ...go with the french tour op a lot cheaper.WE LOVED IT !!! O and this is the first time we have ever visited the same resort twice ....Go.... Have fun !

Room Tip: 100 to 400 best rooms for sea views top floor if poss

the hotel was clean the rooms basic but extremely clean, our room was cleaned every day fresh towels left and a large bottle of water. the food was good with lots to chose from. the only downside to the hotel was the sunbeds around the pool you had to get up at the crack of dawn to stand a chance of getting a sunbed, as the Germans and french put their towels on them all the time.
boa vista is a beautiful place the beach is amazing, very clean.
most of the staff can speak English but i did find that they tended to cater more for the french and German.
one of the animation team jai was extremely friendly with the british holidaymakers and went out of his way to speak to all the british people.
the shop is very expensive but this is due to everything having to be imported, so i would advise that you do take extra sun cream after sun and paracetamol, etc .. we brought some plasters while there and they cost 4:50 euros for 20 plasters :(
the rep was helpful while at the hotel but at the airport and when under pressure was not so good. the airport on the return flight is a nightmare they cannot cope with the amount of people that are departing and as the airport is only open for 7 hours it is a nightmare if any planes are delayed. Thomson did not handle our return flight very well at all and our luggage was delayed by two days at boa vista airport , when we finally got it back the cases had been opened and items stolen . this was a major downside to the holiday ...
but putting all that aside i would defiantly go back to the royal decameron in boa vista, it is a beautiful place with friendly staff and we really enjoyed relaxing in the sun.

Dont worry to much about the title, but if you are just off to the Decameron, take a can of fly spray and swatter, we arrived in the middle of the fly season and were constantly plagued by them. We also arrived in the middle of the rainy season and lost 5 days due to rain, and i mean rain, nothing like the mamby pamby rain we get here!

If you like thunder storms, you are in for a treat, when it rained the top levels around the pools and bars flooded, therefore a pair of wellies would'nt go amiss.

Now the good news, we both enjoyed a good relaxing holiday, the food was good with plenty of choice, drinks flowed like the rain, the staff on the whole were friendly, the weather when it didnt rain was hot, although not always clear blue skies, we both got burnt as the wind kept you cool, so be careful and use plenty of sun screen.

The beach is fantastic and goes on for miles, plenty of sun beds and brollys, but take your own beach towel as the ones supplied are not very big, the sea is at best calm, at worst, 12 foot breakers but an enjoyment to stand and watch.
Provides a very good walk to the sand dunes and the old factory( what ever it was)best done early morning as its further than it looks.

Pool area very large, but has a serious problem with the tiles, they cant seem to keep them stuck down so be very careful in walking across them, we only used the pool once during our 14 day stay as we prefered the beach, but again plenty of sun beds although you have to be up and out by 7 am to get one.

Use the beach bar for drinks, but go to the "LA TARTUGA" for lunch or afternoon pizza, although again severall times it was not open due to the rain we assumed?

The room was large as was the bed, the bathroom was good and we had a bath as well as shower, a real bonus, but we did book the suite so i assume it only comes with the larger accomadation, as for the kitchenette/dining area, come spare bed area, dont bother as we only used the socket to boil the kettle ( took our own) for our early morning coffee(also took our own, 3 in 1). Rooms were clean and towels / sheets replaced often if not every day.

The air conditioning was fantastic, set it on about 6ish closed all the doors and when we came back later in the evening it was like walking back into a fridge, kept it on most of the night as it made sleeping easier.

The decor is typical for the type of hotel style, sort of mediterainian come greek village, very well laid out and planted with nice plants etc, but as with a lot of hotels of this style it needs more work to maintain it to a better standard.

In our opinion we felt it was a good 3 star or a poor 4 star, but it didnt detract from our stay.

The food was good with plenty of choice, regardless of your eating habits you should always find something to suit your stomach, the best bit about all inclusive means that if you put something on your plate and you dont like it, leave it and go and try something else, the staff in the kitchens work very hard to get the meals ready.

The entertainment was ok as far as we were concerned, we are not ones to sit and watch the entertainment shows as they not our cup of tea, but what we did see was good, the animation team were friendly and always ready to have a chat, more suited to the younger crowd rather than us older trippers.

Overall we had a good chill out holiday, but the weather and flies spoilt it a little, do your home work as we spoke with people who had been earlier in the year and had seen whales from the balcony, had clear blue sky with not a fly in sight. Would we go back, no, there are probably better places to go for the money.

Room Tip: suites seem to have baths, but check when booking.

I have been reading some of the recent reviews and thought I'd gone to the wrong resort!

Nothing wrong with the food at all, great selection at breakfast, lunch an dinner. I do not have a lead lined stomach at all and we had no problems whatsoever. I think some people find the smallest thing and winge, or get a stomach complaint and immediately say it was the hotel, hate to say but you can get a bug from being on a plane or bringing it with you!

Accommodation was more than satisfactory, if I paid over a £1000.00 per person for a week, maybe I would be a bit more fussy but the rooms are cleaned daily and the rooms are huge, we had no issue at all, another couples aircon didn't work but within a day they sorted it via Amy the rep!

I read much about the staff, well we had NO problem with any, the number of English saying Beer please, or wine please (sometimes without the please). Some advice learn a coup,e of Portuguese words, and see the difference it makes!

The beach is beautiful and the sun is hot, it does get windy so very big waves but the wind is a lovely cooling factor just use high factors.

Never had trouble getting sun beds on the beach, I know like most resorts the pool ones are always harder. Pools were lovely all in all.

Archery was a good bit of free fun and the animation people seemed friendly but easily take no if you don't want to join, we didn't.

So to recap, resort lovely, staff brilliant, beach fantastic, sun hot ........ Just be aware of the many English moaners who love to moan.

Would go back in a second.

Arrived 17th September 2012 for a week.

Oh and got engaged under the moon on the beach, perfect place, I recommend resort whole heatedly.

Room Tip: We had room 810, great view of beach.

I'm so happy that I chose to ignore the negative reviews about this hotel. There is room for improvement but when those improvements are made it will be a fantastic hotel in a wonderful location and I will not be able to afford it at all! There was always so much food choice and the food was good, there is a problem with the flies, but I do feel that the hotel management are trying to do something to help this issue, but, there is much more that they could do. The tables could be cleared more quickly and wiped more often and vigorously. Also, the bar tops/counters should be constantly spayed and wiped. We were not ill during this holiday, which I was almost expecting to be! But we did have a fabulous holiday and came home feeling totally tanned and relaxed and would absolutely go back again.

Room Tip: Always try to get a sea view room.

We came here for 1 one week (13-20 September). I thoroughly agree with the 'realsandman' !! I dont have to write much else !! There is a serious health issue with this hotel. The Thomson Rep Amy was absolutely useless, failing to inform everyone of these issues. We should've had some idea when our hands had to be sanitized at every visit to the restaurant, staff that were handling the food wore masks !! Unfortunately, I became one of the victims of this horrible bug !! Ive only just recovered now !! Looking at a previous review, some guests were hospitalised !! The animation team, although lively, were shaking lots of hands and kissing cheeks. We were fond of Yanik. Going back to Amy the Thomson Rep, she couldnt even be bothered to rustle up a complimentary bottle of Champagne. We tried the A la Carte. One of the waiters was very rude when i didnt finish my fillet steak !! Finally, we did meet some lovely people - Linda and Chris from Manchester. Ooonah and Christian from Germany.

Lovely hotel, not really 4 star though. We went to Riu hotel in Sal last year that being a 5 star and it was much more luxourious than this one. Fittings and furniture a little shabby and in need of an update.
Hotel staff in restaurants lovely, and staff in general helpful if they can understand you. The majority speak mainly French! Most of entertainment is in French although they do try to translate to English it is sometimes hard to understand.
The entertainment team are great although they do tend to spend most of their time talking to the French as few are confident in english. The LOOKA daytime entertainment team seem to be all French and again direct their conversation to the French.

Breakfasts are great having a lot of choice. I especially liked the pancakes and fresh fruit. However, they did not have the english sausage (german) and only had bacon 2 out of the 11 days we were there. Lunch was once again lovely. This was the only time we had the chance to get icecream as they did not serve it in the evening. The pizzas were lovely and fresh as was the pasta dishes.
The restaurant itself is more like a cafe with plastic chairs and tables. Due to a lot of flies in the resort when we were their they had smoking pots of ????to kill the flies and belive me they dropped dead in an instance. This smoke was very offputting whilst having a meal and being asthmatic was quite dangerous for me. Hence, we ate on the veranda most lunch and evenings and ate in the smaller area at the front of the restaurant. On entering the restaurant there was always a member of staff with hand sanitiser and the waiters were more than happy to clear tables, wipe them down and get you a drink.
The pool area is lovely if you can get a sun bed. A time limit should be imposed as on most days towels were left on the beds with no one actually using them for hour upon hour!! The beach area is lovely but the sea is not suitable for non swimmers, elderly or young children. Even on a yellow flag day the undercurrent will sweep you off your feet and a number of people broke their limbs and one injured her neck and had to wear a collar.
The sun is very hot. We used 4 lots of factor 30 for 2 of us over 12 days. Make sure you take enough as its very expensive to buy. We also found the lotion was much better than the spray.
The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff to an amazing job cleaning and changing the bed linen every alternate day. Watch out for mosquitos. The maid's open the veranda doors whilst cleaning and let loads in. Make sure you tale repellent with deet as they will get you. The bathroom has a hairdryer but it is not very powerful. We booked a basic room and ended up with a suite with lounge/kitchen area as well. You get a bottle of water in your room then the maid will re place it daily.
The complex is built into a hillside with the reception, restaurant and bars at the top. It is then stepped down to the beach with rows of apartment style little villas/rooms.
The Tortuga restaurant was available for us on 2 occasions. This is a lot smaller and has to be pre booked. The food is much nicer here.
The beach snack bar is fine serving pizza, snacks, chips and drinks.
The night entertainment is not fantastic but it is similar to most we have experienced.
The animation team do work very hard throughout the day and evening. There is alwayrs something going on, be it archary, then zumba, water polo, water aerobics, stretching, dancing - they never stop!!
There is internet access although very slow and it costs 7 euros for 1hr which can be used over a few days. There is also a book exchange with a variety of languages and choices.
If you want to go on quad bike trips make sure you have your driving lic details.
When you are there photographers continually take your picture. Smile / pose as at the end of the holiday you can go and select photos to buy. Single A5 were 7 euros each or you can have a montage of up to 10 for 30 euros. This is great if you are couple and going on your own, at least you will have some taken together.
The gym is very limiting. I specifically booked this hotel as my husband uses the gym daily. It is okk for general fitness but the weights are light and the bars do not have the correct collars on to hold additional weight.
