this is an honest review of the hotel having just returned from a holiday there, the hotel was very nice , but in all honesty a bit rough round the edges maintenance wise , needs a makeover painting ,mastic around shower trays, new sun brollys, towels are off white, new sofas in reception, .food was good with lots of choice, a serious problem in the main restaurant is the birds that get in there , and fly around landing on some of the food bread etc the staff tried to keep them off but really they need to look at making it bird proof. The beaches are as good as anywhere beautifull turquoise sea, which is very rough and not suitable for swimming but great for kite surfing etc
Without doubt the best thing about the hotel is the staff all so friendly and helpfull, special mention to the star friends who were brilliant and work so hard , and still manage to do a show nearly everynight some nights were better than others but all good to watch. we really enjoyed our time there and it helped that the hotel wasnt anywhere near full i would imagine its totally different in high season.

Room Tip: go for a sea view room

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for the time you spent to share your personal impressions on your stay at our IBEROSTAR Club Boa Vista. We always welcome feedback, as it allows us to continually improve the experience we create for our guests.

We took good note of your comments on the maintenance of our installations and would like to point out that our maintenance team onsite makes the needed repairs and painting regularly throughout the year, nevertheless we will pass them on your review for information; moreover, the presence of birds in Cape Verde is unavoidable, they usual make their nests in the restaurant’s terrace roof, our maintenance staff verifies the presence of new nests every two days and removes them.

On the other hand we thank you for pointing out the beauty of our grounds and the quality of our buffets, we are glad to read that the gastronomy, which is one of the prime pillars of our company was to your satisfaction; there is not better reward for a Chef to hear that guests have appreciated their culinary delights, we will certainly not fail to convey your kind compliments to them.

Last but not least, we thank you for pointing out the kindness and helpfulness of our staff and the energy of our Star Friends team in charge of the animation; we are glad to read that all were able to meet your needs whilst staying among us.

Once more thank you for making us your choice hotel when visiting the stunning island of Boa Vista and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in our IBEROSTAR hotels worldwide in the near future.

Having read previous reviews before we booked, we thought we were fully briefed on what to expect. What other reviewers may not have emphasised adequately was that this hotel benefits greatly from the friendly multi-lingual "Activities Team" who seem to be the prime interface with the guests.
We spent 2 weeks in mid/late January 2014 when the hotel was only around half occupied. At that time of year there were few children and no trouble in obtaining a pool-side lounger, but we can imagine that the character of the hotel may change significantly at other times of the year.
We were on all-inclusive (as were the vast majority of guests) and had a sea-view room close to the pool bar but suffered no disturbance from it.
The dining arrangements were all self-service which may not suit everyone, but worked well. I cannot imagine why some reviewers say that couldn't eat the food. The catering staff produced a varied selection of dishes which should have suited all tastes.
We went for rest and relaxation and initially found that invites to join in activities were mildly intrusive. However the Team soon got to know if you were likely to participate and were not pushy. Not exactly 'Butlins' as described by other reviews, but please be aware!
Pretty well every night, the same Team put on a Show in the 200? seat open air theatre. Don't forget to pick up a blanket at the theatre entrance as evenings can be chilly.
We probably saw 10 different shows - all excellent in their way. The dancing was the best and very memorable. The comedy show was also good. [Rrrrronnie - VODKA! - for those who have seen this particular sketch!]
The Team worked very hard. During the day they managed the creche, children, adult activities, manned the towel booth, played sports with the guests, danced at 12:45 daily to announce lunch and fooled around advertising their show for the evening. Hard work indeed! They worked a 12 hour day and were never less than enthusiastic.
The dining room staff were equally friendly, but many have limited English. Try French or German if your Portuguese isn't great. Otherwise hand gestures!
Bearing in mind that Boa Vista is not a sophisticated country, the hotel facilities are excellent but it is staff who make the hotel.
One tip. The cold northerly wind in the islands can be unrelenting. Bring a hoodie (seriously!)
Altogether a very enjoyable holiday. Particular thanks to the following named Activities Team members who became our friends. Nick, Ronnie, Jacqueline and Odelia.

Enjoy Boa Vista before they build all the planed hotels. In whole island is today about 3 000 beds in 10 hotels. The goal is 30 000 beds... Nice beaches, still empty. Overpriced trips and services. Subaru Jimmy in bad shape for 60euros per day. But there is nothing really worth traveling around the island. Our only problem were mosquitos.

Good public areas and large, attractive pool, but too shallow for serious swimming. Location overlooked a magnificent beach but there was nothing really worth seeing on the island, which is very barren, so the hotel is it. Not even any local restaurants to try as the hotel is in an isolated position.
We probably had one of the better rooms with an unobstructed view of the sea and a small veranda but quality of furnishings poor and bathroom rather grungy. Mattress was not very comfortable.
Service was average but the friendliness and willingness of the staff was outstanding.
Lovely hot sunshine, but also very strong winds all the time. Huge waves and cold temperature meant no bathing in the sea. Food was mostly buffet style and average, but with a good choice. There was a second restaurant with waiter service but that was disappointing. Good place to stay if you just want to relax in the sun with not a lot going on and an early bedtime.

Overall view of hotel = Butlins! Certainly, NOT 4/5 star more a 3 star. Not that I have been to Butlins but have seen the 'Red Coats' on TV and can only imagine this hotel is similar with the staff in yellow tops and blue shorts walking the grounds rounding up guests for the various itinerary of activities throughout the day. We were fortunate enough to be off-site majority of the day as my husband was windsurfing so I in turn was at the beach with him, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of a local beach bar/restaurant with a sun lounger a wonderful view of the ocean. The only time we really witnessed 'Butlins' was returning at the end of the afternoon for a cup of tea when we saw some of the activities taking place, for example table tennis/bingo/darts/step aerobics (yes by the
pool!) and volley ball. The evenings also had an array of activities and if this is 'your thing' you will be a happy camper.

The 'all inclusive' aspect of the hotel which by the way is the same for all on the Island which is a necessity as there is nowhere else to go in the evenings. The food was overall good, we could eat well albeit basic it was ok food. The one night treat of the 'Fine Dining' restaurant made me smile, a good effort but happy enough with the main restaurant. My biggest complaint overall with the hotel was the wine. The 'all inclusive' which extended to alcohol, the wine was undrinkable so we had to buy what wine we wanted to drink with dinner of which they stocked a very nice white and red but be warned they charge you €28 for the red and €21 for the white. As for the general bars you could get branded spirits ie Gordons but you had to ask by the 'brand' otherwise you were served the local brands which we did not try, but if anything like the wines included in your package was not up for human consumption!

Our room was very nice with a sea view and well worth paying the extra for this bit of luxury. We were given a particularly good room which was not overlooked by passers by and had a lovely view of the beach and ocean. The hotel generally was clean and in particular our room was attended to extremely well and every time we came back it felt like it had been thoroughly cleaned. Overall the staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful which is a credit to the hotel management.

Lastly, but certainly not least there was no wi-fi in the hotel guest rooms. Wi-fi was only accessible from the hotel reception area, at a charge. A suggestion to hotel management to rectify this sooner rather than later for future guests as in this day and age most guests appreciate the convenience of wi-fi in their rooms even at a charge! Which brings me to close of this feedback with no wi-fi we had no TV as there was 'a problem' with our section of the hotel with the arial not working, so we had sound but no picture so we could at least hear the news.

Nice hotel, suited our needs but won't be going back.

Whoops, nearly forgot - you have to up early to get your sun loungers as we went to breakfast at approx 8am and the pool area had plenty of towels securing beds, will leave up to you who they could be. :-)

Room Tip: If you decide on booking this hotel, I would strongly recommend a sea view as looking at the other r...

I booked the Iberostar Boavista's for my parents from 11/27/2013 to 12/11/2013.
A great surprise.
Usually I use Iberostar in Canaria and, knowing the limitations of Boavista, I was expecting some difference.
Great job of direction to make the Boavista hotel to Iberostar level.
Excellent restaurant, clean, soft and relaxed environment.
Smiling staff (hard thing to get there) and available.
In short I highly recommend for those who want to enjoy Boavista without unpleasant surprises.
