My family of four just stayed 4 nights in the family suite at 90,000 CFA per night (about $200 USDS). For two of the hot nights, the children's air conditioner didn't work, so two different days we had workmen in and out of our suite and two nights our two children didn't sleep. They claim there's internet, but you have to pay for it, not expected when we paid $200 night. They claim a flatscreen tv and cable, but there's only one clear channel showing African news. We were scolded when we wanted to have a bottle of wine on our deck and watch the ocean. One of the two toilets consistently leaked onto the floor and across to the shower drain, so the bathroom smelled terrible (like urine) our whole stay. Walls were peeling with paint and screens on windows had large holes to make easy access for mosquitoes. The French family wouldn't even look at us our whole stay as our family sat at the pool, etc., which is strange when one has paid $800 for for days' stay. Entire staff cold and unfriendly, even telling us at noon that they couldn't serve us a cup of coffee because they stopped making coffee at 11:30.
The two nice things are the view and the pool. We live and work in Yaounde and are familiar with African standards and life in Africa. Unless you have to have a pool, avoid this hotel. There are others in Kribi and you can have a great view and swim in the ocean.

We stayed in the Hotel for only 3 days, just before Christmas. Once you found it (it is poorly sign posted off the main road along the beach; but all locals we asked knew where it was), we didn't want to leave it... Having two kids with us, the hotel was a perfect choice because if is one of the few (the only one?) with a swimming pool (right next to the beach), where the kids could have fun the whole time without much supervision (the waves at the beach can be quite high for a small one, and there are a few rocks on it, too). The whole setting is very beautiful, directly at the beach, and the very reasonably priced on-site restaurant has excellent fresh fish and seafood (crevettes grillees were our favourites!). The choice of the rooms is important. Most ground-floor rooms are a clean & cheap option if you intend to spend most of your time outside anyways. If you can (i.e. if available), you nonetheless should consider upgrading to at least the upstairs rooms, which are about 20 USD more expensive but worth it. The one large upstairs studio with balcony and view on the sea is a dream come true. The ground-floor counterpart is perfect for parents who want to check on their kids in the pool, while enjoying a private and luxury sea-view atmosphere. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and so is the staff - although you shouldn't be in a hurry when ordering your meal.
Finally: The updated website is http://pharedekribi.cm and not .com (which is the first google option).

Room Tip: The quality of the rooms ranges from plain to luxury. The owners only allow reservations at the begi...

We arrived on a Friday evening ( 2 girls,1 French and 1 Camerounese). It was already dark and all hotels were full so we were a bit desperate. The receptionist first said there were only expensive 90000 CFA rooms. I didn't have enough money (I might have taken it out of desesperation if I had). She then said there was a regular room left but with no TV. We took it (though my friend was a bit disappointed not to have a tv). Our room was nothing extraordinary but it was clean and the bed was confortable. (My friend had stayed at the Framotel during her previous stay in Kribi and found the rooms to be nicer and cheaper)

There was no hot water when my friend took her shower. When I went to take mine later there was no water at all (they had been a problem and the whole hotel was affected). The owner offered to get me water from the swimming pool till the issue was solved . He also gave us good advice on things to do and see.
On the other hand, the woman at reception was really harsh whenever I asked a question. I think she didn't have at all the same behavior towards men and women (I also heard some other women yelling at her because of the bad service).
I also tried to ask to have some discount because we hadn't had any water for one day and our room didn't have a tv like the others and she refused.

The location, terrasse and swimming pool were nice but we felt a bit out of place. It felt weird to me to be in a hotel in Cameroun with only white people. I also thought the food was a bit expensive but I guess this is the case in all Kribi nice hotels.

We stayed here for a week in March 2011. Even though it is the centre of Kribi, you really feel like you're staying on a quiet beach in a much more remote area. The rooms were comfortable, clean and of a good standard. The beach-side restaurant was excellent and very stylish - very nice for sunset drinks. The staff were friendly and there was usually at least one member of staff available who spoke fluent English. For the price, this place would be hard to beat in Kribi.

We didn't stay here, but we ate breakfast and dinner. The semi-outdoor restaurant is beautiful, right on the beach, friendly. The food was good.

I stayed at the Hotel du Phare in Feb of 2010, before the rainy season started. But since this is on the coast, expect rain most evenings. The drive from Douala is about 90 mintues, and you can stop in several towns or cities along the way. The only hard part is getting out of the air port in Douala - that is not for the faint of heart and DO NOT try and do this without assistance. But once out of Douala......
The Hotel du Phare is located right on the beach in Kribi. They have a nice sized pool right along the beach, with a nice outdoor resturant right next to it. You would feel at home here no matter where you have stayed in the past. With one warning - they have some beautiful rooms with views of the ocean and pleanty of room and windows. And they have a few rooms that are closet sized where you can not walk around the bed if you brought a suit case. Make sure you reserve, and they hold one one of the front view or larger sized rooms. And bring cash, like every place else in Cameroon credit cards are a foregin concept. The few places that do accept them take American Express and Visa - not Mastercard. And French is the language. They speak some broken english but full conversations with the staff are not going to be possible if you do not speak French or have found somene who does.

I visited Kribi with my girlfriend in June 2007 and we consider our stay there as one of the highlights of our trip. Perhaps it was also because of the sunny weather, but far more than (rainy) Limbe - which is also a popular getaway (mostly from Douala) - Kribi offered us a relaxing 'beach experience' in a laid-back atmosphere. We stayed in Kribi twice for a couple of days, visiting a friend in Yaoundé in between; the first time we stayed at Hotel Du Phare, the second time at Hotel Ilomba. Kribi is some sort of a beach resort and hosts several hotels, but in our opinion Ilomba and Hotel Du Phare represented the very best Kribi had to offer .

Hotel Du Phare is run by a friendly Frenchman (Lionel), who lives on the hotel premises with his family. I believe the hotel has been renovated in 2006 or 2007 and when we left, Lionel was doing some work on remodeling his restaurant. The hotel was very well run: staff was friendly and helpful, it has a very nice pool, the rooms were nice and clean and we found the restaurant outstanding. Locationwise, it's situated close to Kribi center and next to the small 'port', where there's also a nice fish-market with food stalls. In this respect, it forms a nice alternative to the - also very nice - Hotel Ilomba which is situated at a more remote location a couple of kilometres from Kribi town (yet close to the 'famous' waterfalls). Even at approx. EUR 35,- a night (upmarket certainly to Cameroonian standards), is was good value for money.

If we would return to Kribi we would certainly consider returning to Hotel Du Phare (the only worthy alternative being Ilomba). It appears the hotel does not have its own website, although you can find contact details and some pictures via [--].

Considering Kribi serves as a get-away for both Cameroonians and expats from Douala and (mostly) Yaounde, it can be busy in the weekends, so to be on the safe side I would advise on booking beforehand in case of a weekend stay.
