Description: Six50 offers upscale-casual dining with Italian-American fare. Established in 2012, Six50 was started with the intention of bringing genuinely good food and a unique experience to Rochester diners. Offering a scratch kitchen, sourcing the majority of goods from local vendors and local farms. Six50 uses wood-fired ovens to prepare the majority of the offerings, which provides a very rich flavor. The wood fire not only provides a delicious product, but it is a renewable resource, which reduces the consumption of fossil fuels.

“Great new addition to Chili”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013

This was our first trip to Six50, but it won't be our last! We had heard good things about the restaurant, and it has been confirmed! A really nice place with great food and great service!
We were greeted by a friendly hostess and were seated by the door to the outside patio, but with the temperature being about 12 degrees, we thought there would be a draft from the door. There was no draft, but a couple of times people were trying to enter and someone came over and opened the door for them ... brrrr ... that was a cold experience. During the winter, when it is not to be used as a entrance, there should be a sign stating "No Entrance - Exit Only", with a note on the inside telling people NOT to OPEN this door. We did not let this affect our night out. Our server, Krista, was friendly, attentive, and offered suggestioons for drinks and meals. My wife ordered a Salad Wedge and the Spicey Garlic Shrimp appetizer. The salad was a "half" of a head of lettuce, and was nicely accompanied with dressing and bacon and tomatoes. I ordered the appetizer "Pan Fried Pierogi", which was perfectly cooked as well as a Sausage Sandwich. All of the food was tasty and well prepared. The only thing I thought was that the sausage was dry, but that may be due to it being cooked in the brick oven.
Our waitress stopped by many times to make sure all was okay.
The food was great, and we only had to wait about 10 minutes for the food to be served after ordering. The waitress refererred to the restaurant as "our" ... which means he took ownership in making sure we had a pleasant experience.
Try it .. you'll enjoy it !!! We wll be going back!

“Six-50 - the NEW BEST place in town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2012

Six-50 Black OVEN Wood Fired Cooking- We’ve been to Six50 four times since it opened and am very pleased with the consistency of the food quality, service and atmosphere. The service is outstanding. I can’t say enough. We were recognized the second time we came in. My wife and I have been in for just a salad on one occasion, pizza on another and we just ate there Thursday and both ordered the black oven wood fired pasta. We also shared a bowl of pasta-fagioli soup. Both the soup and the pasta tasted exactly like home-made. My wife tried a bowl of soup on an earlier visit and just loved it. We will be sure to try all of the available soups in the future. The mixed greens are fresh, crisp and lightly dressed. All of our experiences have been fantastic. Chili is very lucky to have such a great, upscale restaurant to visit so close to home. This is long overdue. Today we stopped in for a cocktail and a gift card. It’s such a nice place to just sit and chat. I looked forward to many more visits and the opening of their patio area in the spring.

“We had a great time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012

My husband, our infant daughter and I stopped in for lunch. The atmosphere is wonderfully cozy and hip, while the food was tasty and delicious. The wait staff was attentive and friendly - and even the chef came out to speak to us about our dining experience. All in all, it was a great experience and we hope to go back soon!

“No more driving downtown”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2012

Trendy American Cuisine usually means pizza and that is exactly what you find at Six-50 Black Over. I didn’t know how they came up with that name but the wood fired pizza ovens cook the pies at 650 degrees Fahrenheit. When you enter the restaurant, which is on the corner of a small mall just outside Rochester, your first sight is the fire going in the two ovens. There are stacks of wood below the mouths of the ovens and the remainder of the kitchen stands in front of them in open view to the patrons of the restaurant. Off to the left is the bar which at this time serves both wine and beer. I do not know if they intend to get a full bar but the wine and beer offerings are excellent.

We started out with chicken wing appetizers. There were the “traditional” Buffalo wings that tasted like they were seasoned with a touch of vermouth or sherry. There were also the roasted wings with Gorgonzola cheese, my personal favorite. All the wings are roasted in the wood fired ovens, no deep frying here.

For dinner we tried several kinds of pizza. All the pizza is thin crust, baked to a turn. There was a sausage and banana pepper pie with a delicious red sauce. There was also a small pepperoni pie, again with a traditional red sauce. A really tasty pasta was on the menu. It was a Penne with zucchini and peas in a creamy cheese sauce. Excellent. Finally there was a farfel (bow ties) in a marinara sauce.

There was desert but by that time I was sated with pizza and Goose Island Honkers Ale (I think I am close on the name). Nevertheless, you don’t have to drive downtown any more to get trendy American in Rochester.
