...like a time warp...
one person from Georgia, one from Ontario...just found this in the phone book!
If you need hand-holding and customer "service" this isn't the place for you :-)
...on the other hand, if you want a steak and cheese sub that you can almost be
certain is the model for every other steak and cheese sub made...WoWoWoW!

I was first introduced to Viola's on Military Road when my dad had either his '59 or '61 Rambler and can pretty much guarantee there' not a year gone by when I've not stopped there at least once and more. Originally dad had sales routes in the Falls and it was either Viola's or Hanson's Fish for an incredible take-out order. Well, Hanson's is long gone; but not Viola's -- proving there is a God!

In the early days, the order was a large Steak and Cheese. Later on, a double was the only way to go and still is. More than twice the pleasure for less than twice the cost -- who could possibly say no? As an older teen and young adult, we'd stop by Viola's on the way to see the "AAA" Buffalo Bisons and then, Niagara Falls ball clubs in Hyde Park Stadium. Get a large cold one at the game and life was very, very good in the summer time.

When family or friends came to visit; a tour of Buffalo-WNY, when up in the Falls or Lewiston, the tour ended with a mandatory stop at Viola's. Of the dozens of folks introduced to the Steak and Cheese, EVERY single person liked the sub. Could that be said about any other item at any other restaurant in the world?

Now a couple words of advice: 1) Get the double steak and cheese; regardless of whether you go with the whole or half sandwich. 2) That's right -- oil only. Miracle Whip? That's a sin against God and man. So NEVER! 3) Be sure to get extra napkins; because when that oil starts running down your wrist to the elbow, better be prepared.

Go get one, friend!

OK, there is always a debate about the best hoagie in town. Everyone has their preferences...and so to help set aside Viola's, I'll say this: go with the oil! Their special blend of oil with oregano sets off the perfect cut of beef for their steak and cheese sub. I swear, it's second to none.

Visitors: The weird thing about Viola's is you kinda get the little "Seinfeld Soup Nazi" feel. It's a Niagara Falls staple -- so they kinda set the rules on how you order. Just the meet and cheese first. Then when the meat is hot off the grill, they'll ask you what you want on it. At first it might be off-putting, but when you realize how MANY subs they're making in a very short amount of time, you'll realize they're running an extremely efficient and high quality shop.

Don't miss it, and the steak and cheese (I like it with double cheese) is their shining star!!

Stopped into Viola's on a recent shopping trip with my husband after driving past this restaurant for years. Steak and cheese sub was recommended by the staff and was delicious. Definitely returning here for lunch next time we are in town.

The steak & cheese sub by which ALL others are measured! Iprefer Elmwood Ave over the Military Rd. store, it just seems to taste better. Small store, but always busy.
