Owner description: A huge expanse of natural beauty, this oldest state park in the U.S. offers biking, fishing and cross-country skiing, and contains plenty of hiking and walking trails, including the Niagara Gorge Trail System, which affords great views of both the falls and the gorge.

We had driven from Utica so it was lovely to find such a wonderful park well suited to walking; yet with terrific views of the falls. The area is completely unspoiled so you see nature at its best. Tulips in bloom, birds nesting with chicks, the walk round the river and the magnificent falls - all for free; unless you choose to do Maid of the Mist or Cave of the Winds. Then a pass which encompasses both is a good buy. Try and avoid the Canadian holiday in May if you can - it was VERY busy. We only had one day to see it all and decided that 2 days would have done it justice.

While the Canadian side of Niagara Falls is very developed the Niagara Falls State Park is a flavor of Niagara before it was all urbanized. Access the park by foot or by car after crossing the Rainbow Bridge into Niagare Falls NY. There are beautiful walks over to Goat Island the the Three Sisters Islands can be discovered perched right in the river on top of the Horseshoe Falls. Worth seeing are majestic trees centuries old, Bridal Veil Falls ( not accessible in winter) and close up views of both the American and Canadian Horse Shore Falls. There are miles of woodland trails and frankly you have not experiences the "Natural Niagara" unless you have strolled the American side as well. For a nominal fee the Robert Moses Tower just adjacent to the Rainbow Bridge takes you over the river and in summer to the river bank. A great feel of the majesty of the falls and you can see the remains of the Honeymoon Bridge. The Parks service is undertaking serious park upgrades and there is a 'bus" that can take you around if your feet are tired!

Very nice park on the New York side, beautiful views of horseshoe falls from the Canadian side (which are much nicer than NY side), but still very nice!

This was not our first time to the Niagara Falls, but it was our first time in the winter. It was very cold and windy but the photos were stunning. It was fun to see the winter wonderland and the effect the Falls had on the surrounding areas in the winter. Staff at state park very helpful and friendly. The nice thing about going this time of year is that the crowds are minimal.

Niagara Falls State Park is worth a couple of hours to see the views for free. Nice trails and walkways.
