Owner description: A huge expanse of natural beauty, this oldest state park in the U.S. offers biking, fishing and cross-country skiing, and contains plenty of hiking and walking trails, including the Niagara Gorge Trail System, which affords great views of both the falls and the gorge.

The park is in much need of repair, even the monuments need repair. You can hardly read the signs on the monuments. Paths are cracked and bumpy from the roots of trees growing in them. The staff is amazingly rude. We did not encounter one park employee that knew what the word polite meant. Every employee we ran into that was polite was not a park employee. Make sure to see the Three Sisters Island, go to Terrapin Point, walk the trails at the Gorge. The park is absolutely beautiful just so poorly maintained. In all of our travels we have never seen such a bad state park and such rude staff. I have so many stories of encounters with staff it would take an hour to type them all. One of the trolley staff was so unbelievably mouthy and rude with other passengers until I spoke up and told her that she did not need to be so rude - she thought I was being rude by saying that, she did stop being rude after that.

It is better to see Falls in the night and day as well. Canadian side lighted up the falls in various colours. wonderful view. watched it from US side. take a trip for Maid of the Mist. take a tram and go to the top of the falls for 2 dollars which they normally do not advertise.

I have visited both sides (American and Canadian) of Niagara Falls now. I have always been told that the Canadian side had more to offer. Now I will tell everyone that it is worthwhile to visit the American side also. The State Park is beautiful with walks that run along parts of the raging river moving towards the falls. Goat Island is beautiful. The observation deck presents an excellent point to view the immense beauty of this area.

I thought I would be staying on the Canadian side but my granddaughter had not enhanced her nyc id card, so we stayed on the NY side. The New York side is a little drab compared to the Canadian side. But if it's about the falls, The New York side hands down. You can not truly enjoy the force of the falls without being close up and personal as in the Cave of The Winds and on the Maiden Mist. The grounds themselves are well kept and the vantage points from Goat Island and Terrapin point are truly spectacular. If you are traveling with teens who have no interest in the aquarium geared for children then don't bother buying the pass. The tickets to both the Maid of the Mist and the Cave of the Winds were $26.00 per person.

It's an interesting story how they've protected this area so that we can see the true beauty of the falls. There are lots of facilities but not enough water fountains. Lots of mud and puddles so wear old shoes.
