We were teaching an evening class nearby and searched for something other than fast food. Having tried the other diners which were on the main road, it was a short-lived experience. The Neptune sits right off the intersection, next to Burger King, and has been a landmark for locals forever. I think we tried everything there from simple sandwiches and burgers to great salads and the dinner menu: none were disappointing. Even their version of chili was not bad.
There were two minor negatives (which did not keep us from going back week after week): the salad bar was very small with limited variety. The other "problem" had to do with some baked goods at the cashier's counter. We each bought "black and white" cookies as we paid. In order to eat them we had to slap it on the dashboard just like a frozen Milky Way, in order to break a piece off. It was that or break a tooth. When we returned the following week, the man at the register dismissed it as not having previous complaints and they were freshly delivered every day.
The moral of the story is that you should eat only the fare prepared in the diner and not stuff they sell for vendors. Ignore the jerk at the register.
